I've liked the little I've seen of him. Why hasn't he been poached already?
Contracted until the end of this year. We delisted him and rookied him but are still giving him normal wages. I think teams avoided him due to paying normal wages to a rookie. He just lacks a level of intensity in his game and can quite poor defensively.

People saying no to Neil Craig based on the fact he took jobs at basket case clubs but couldn't turn them around. Like it's all his fault.:)

How do you fix clubs coached by Neeld and Hird and who had the boards they had? FMD Melb had Cam "Useless" Schwabe running things

It's similar to the way Dramoth was left embarrassed by John Barker this year after years of baseless slander. Very few people on BigFooty have any idea what an assistant coach is doing or how good they are.

I assume Trigg is driving this?

My recollection of Craig's time at Adelaide was he was very good tactically, he got the team really fit but he drove them too hard and the players revolted (not sure if accurate).

If so, he'd be a good get as Director of Coaching. Would have good ideas about strategy and fitness but with a buffer between him and the players....
I remember him being a pretty good coach there, but Adelaide were just a little bit behind the top 2 in WCE and Syd. Was more of a list issue I reckon. They fell hard once a few stars aged and he was moved on.

His time and Melbourne and Essendon makes me uneasy though.

As someone mentioned earlier, not sure how much he could do at either club given the circumstances.

Interestingly, Craig coached half a season at Melb as Cartetaker. Makes for a nice before/after comparison.

Under Neeld

Melb avg score 65.8
Opp avg score 132.3
Opposition scored 100+ in 11/11
1 win, 10 losses, % of 49.8%

Under Craig

Melb avg score 66.5
Opp avg score 112.4
Opposition scored 100+ in 8/11 (other three in the 90s :))
1 win, 10 losses, % of 59.1%

Melb won 4 games the year before and the year after. So not a lot to work with....

I'd be worried about your own basket case of a club if I where you :)

I just don't think Craig's done a good job at all. Our selections, gameplan, all of it has just been a shambles this year. Hirdy wasn't a great coach, however this year it's seemed 1000 times worse. The difference between 2011 to 2013, and this year? Craig overseeing and being in charge of everything. It's seemed as if there's been very little coherence between different areas of the coaching team.

Hell the only coach earning his money this year is Mark Neeld, he's in charge of development. He's been great.

You raise a good point, given that Bomber gets credit for any measure of success achieved under hird, the correlary is that Craig has failed in the same role. It's hard to know either way as there's so many variables... not sure what to think.

Good to see you're giving the asterisk a run early, you'll be seeing plenty more of it ;)

Really? We should all jump on to Neil Craig because he's had a couple of good results years ago coaching Adelaide?

Since then he's been around when the players revolted in Adelaide, Melbourne and judging by their performances Essendon as well.

I'm not saying that he is responsible for these outcomes but he sure as hell can't claim to have prevented them. High risk - Not suitable!

Whats great is that SOS has had a full season to judge the list, and a season of adversity and tension to boot, so he will have a good chance to know the mice from the men.

Gawd, I would love to see the whiteboards on the walls of the SOS war room. I bet there are names on the "Try to get" section that would have us salivating. Chopping block and reasoning behind the choices there would also be very interesting.

Anyway, you can bet SOS and BB have had a good chat about the great big picture the former has painted there, and BB has his brush ready to collaborate on it.

Yeh it's not Hirdy's fault

Goodbye
