Re tutt.. Pretty simple problem to solve i would say. Are you implying that our new coach is not blessed with enough insight into the game of afl to see what you see? Otherwise we should look at his positive attribute...pace and goal kicking ability. Plus he came free didnt he? Worth another chance rather than writing him off. Ditto for half our players that are drawing the ire of the gods on BF.

That's odd....I don't see any mention of our new coach, or any coach, in my post...

Where on earth did you get the idea I was implying Bolton can't see what I see? I'm sure he can, and he'll probably have strong ideas about what roles he has in mind for particular players. We've been hammered by injuries, so players are out of position everywhere, but Tutt is extremely limited in what he can do because he appears to be afraid of the contest. Footy is a contested game.

Every player has positive attributes, if we only look at those then we're only doing half the job. We need a balanced list that enables players to use their strengths, while other players cover their weaknesses. I don't think we should delist Tutt tomorrow, I've said a number of times on this board that he and Jones were picked up as cheap stop-gaps after the loss of Waite and Garlett, I understand why we recruited them. But with the state of our list at the moment, he is depth and nothing more, because our players need to be able to trust and rely on each other - if I'm receiving a handball from Tutt I'm expecting to get run down half a second later, and I'm certainly not giving him the ball unless I have no other choice.

Carlisle's management were in talks with Carlton going back months ago where an offer in the vicinity of 5 years was on the table.
He has told various players and colleagues at the EFC that Carlton is his desired destination.
As far aw i'm aware, Carlton plan to walk him to the PSD.

Can Carlisle delist himself? I thought he could if he wanted to... on account of the ASADA shenanigans

I think Ryder used that 'threat' to move to Port whilst contracted? but the club back down quickly and resolved to trading fairly. If the WADA hearing was before trade period and they got done he would most likely be able to do that without much of a whimper from them.

Port and Essendon have a somewhat good trade relationship.

Carlton and Essendon are like North and South Korea.

I think that was just suggested somewhere along the line but never came to pass.

The beautiful part of being able to get him in the PSD is that Essendon burnt all their bridges a long time ago and there would be no etiquette broken.

As a matter on interest, does anyone know if we are even allowed to pay him if he is suspended? Even Hirdy was not technically paid for his suspension, he and Little pulled a massive swifty by paying him outside the year he was suspended. (Hirdy has been paid a hell of a lot for NOT coaching. Great work if you can get it.)

CAS is hearing the case in November, verdict not known until Christmas or thereabouts, and then penalties decided after that. If we sign him before then we are leaping into the unknown. Lots of noise about backdating and no game time to be missed but this is baseless. Nobody knows how CAS will rule.

I think he can do it if he wants.... would make things humorous

The only thing I'll say about Carlisle is that if we give up anything more than a mid-late second rounder, I will cry. Obviously he is worth a lot more than that but we cannot afford to be giving away valuable rebuilding pieces for a bloke who may miss two years of footy.

If he comes across on a Dale Thomas like contract, then this Club if ruddy stupid!!!
I'd like to think that the upcoming New Carlton is smarter than that

I think we know now. Good Jeffy was light-years ahead of wherever Clem will be. Of course, Bad Jeffy wasn't worth a spit.

Can't fault the kid's workrate or energy, but so far he's been a headless chook during games.
You must be bloody awesome to know this now?
Smith is 19 years old, in his first season, and only has 6 games to name (most of them as the sub - although he did get good game time in a couple due to early injuries).
Jeff was nearly 20 when he debuted, so not too much older, but he was also in and out of the side a little bit. His numbers in his 1st 6 games were definitely better than Clem's, but Jeffy was working in a functioning forward line, with Eddie, Fev, Setanta, Cloke, Waite in a team scoring 103 points a game and had 13 wins for the year. He's always been a forward and has always had a role and known what that is (regardless of form).
Does Clem even have a role yet? Do we know if he's going to be in the middle, on a wing, a small forward? Give the guy a bloody chance.
It's way too early to say we know where Clem will be when he's at his best. If you looked at Jobe Watson's first 6 games (hell, even his first 3 seasons), you would say that he probably wasn't going to be a good player.

Disagree.

Carlisle has 10 years ahead of him and we are in dire need of a KPP during our rebuild. You can splash $$$ on 1 or 2 players during a rebuild.

People also need to remember that the salary cap is going to increase with the new TV rights deal. 5 years time contracts like Buddy's and Boyds won't be considered enormous like they are now - at least that's what I've been told :D

Thomas was washed up, injury prone and we had much more pressing needs than an outside mid.

If we do get Carlisle I hope he is on minimum wage for the first 2 years

No it is HUGELY FRONT ENDED Contact so when he gets rubbed out by wada he sues * for the loss of earnings and we get him for $200k/year for the rest of his contact ......

Seriously though I wouldn't want to pay more than 500k per year and trade for him considering that he may not play for 2 years .....

Carlisle's always had ability though, and athleticism for someone who is basically almost ruckman-sized.

I've never been a fan of him as a person, just from what I hear (so, unfounded) around here but if we got him at a decent price and he isn't suspended, it could be a major boost to our KPP stocks.
