Who does he displace in the backline? I would hope that the back six of Weiters, Kemp, Saad, Doc, Cincotta ans McGovern/Marchbank would become even more settled next year. Then you have Newman, Boyd and others who may also be ahead of.Zac.
How often would we really face that issue? Injury dictates a spot would be available most weeks...and plenty of scope to carry one or two on the pine/in the stupid vest.

Dow unlikely to accept the offer
Best of luck to him if that's how it pans out.
He's stuck with us for a while without getting regular games, and with a healthy midfield, that probably continues.
Can't begrudge him wanting more opportunities after this long, if none are guaranteed (or even vaguely possible).
Will be a shame to lose him from a purely selfish perspective, as he's great in the VFL side and very handy depth, but he can't hang around forever, hoping for more chances.

You seem determined to be a contrarian. We have plenty of depth, Irishmen on the way in droves and we will find gems in the draft. No top up hacks from the bleachers on other teams.

It’s clear you don’t agree with me on much. Probably best if you just ignore instead of getting so worked up.

I’m all but certain Austin and co. will look to strengthen our forward half in the off-season. Making list management decisions based on the last 8 weeks would be just as insane as making them based on the first 8 weeks. Complacency is the only thing that can ruin what we are building.

Zac Williams has no real history in this role & after a long term injury it makes alot sense to play him as a straight ahead defender, which really is where he has his best career footy.

I think there's a genuine opportunity to play as Williams as a defensive forward next year who could hit the scoreboard as well. Perhaps he becomes a smaller utility type and a genuine Mr. Fix it
Zac played a string of games at GWS in the forward line when injuries had them thin in that area. Just as effective as he was in defence. It is a very real option. It’s his skills, high half forward/link man who can also hit the scoreboard would be quite spectacular.

Dow unlikely to accept the offer
Despite his impressive outings, Paddy remains behind Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, Hewett and Kennedy, possibly Docherty, and a couple of others could offer him some opposition for a spot. The above mentioned hold decent to large contracts which are already locked in. Even paying him average money is “ordinary” list management.
He is capable of getting games as a starting mid in a couple, if not, a few sides, I am happy to see him back himself in.

I would rather see him play twenty games for someone than three for us next year and the following years. His form would produce a decent draft pick for us in a trade. A future second or low third would be perfect. Gives us enough points to trade out our first. With Dodo and SOS calling shots, it is easy to see mischievous bids if the Campo boys are around the mark a few draft watchers currently have them(roughly 20 and 40 as a guideline). They could unnecessarily cost us a live first round pick if we don’t prepare.

Doesnt surprise me - Dow would get much better assurances regarding playing time at other clubs compared to ours. Hope we can keep him around as depth but totally understand if he was to move. Just hoping he avoids * and Coll so I can happily cheer him on.
Are we so good that we can give players away now? Hard disagree

Incredible ingenuity from Austin and his team.

We basically choose to take the best 2 young talents from Ireland as opposed to the 66th and 70th ranked kids in the National Draft. We still may take a pick at the back end of the draft depending on delistings and trades, but it's bloody exciting what Austin's adding to our list.

Last year we brought in Cowan with our current 2nd rounder, and Acres with our 3rd. So this year we'll bring in another 1st round pick through the National Draft, as well as Duffy and Monahan. Next year the Campo twins.

Makes ya head spin!!!
Cat-B rookies are a free hit. They are outside the list so it's great if it comes off but no risk if it doesn't.

Okay then; what is your 'made up' opinion regarding what we'd get for Dow in a trade if he didn't re-sign with us?
3rd round, if he’s not picked best 22 that’s what he’s worth.
If we wanted more, there was ample opportunity to play him earlier and show his value- he hasn’t just learnt to play the game in the last 3weeks.
