Where does Elijah play if we get him?

I'm hoping it is not about trading for an ex high draft pick who is a brother of a current player. That strategy has proven a liability to Carlton over the last ten years.

Can he demand a midfield rotation? Did GC say he was played out of position on the wing?

Half forward is a hard role where we need defensive pressure. Is he potentially a Owies/Cunners replacement?

Looking into 2024 it is really hard to fathom which way we want to go with our half forwards. Creative types who can score or out and out pressure forwards like Owies/Durdin pressuring rebounds and leaving goals to our talls/mids. In that last brisbane game we went with creative forwards in Motlop and Martin and Brissy walked the ball out for easy corridor central counter attacks.

Motlop and Martin can pressure but can drop that aspect at times.

Schulz can do both but we sucked a lemon there.

If he has a good pre season it’s mid/fwd for me

Having a midfield rotation of Cripps Hewett or Kennedy Walsh Cerra Hollands maybe Williams supported by Durdin Martin Motlop is a great mix that won’t give an opposition any rest

Looks like Hollands deal is a simple pick swap. Incredible deal for us. We were apparently into him for a while. He wasn't keen to leave GCS but we sold him the chance

Billing’s offered for Dow. Could be a smaller Bowes deal but I have no idea if we are interested

Clubs know our F1 is on table to go up draft order

2-3 draft picks and a couple of mature players is still the plan

So Hollands + 32 for pick 26 🧐

That feels about right - and for us its less of an impost as they will use 24, 26, 27, 28 on Walter, Read & Rogers which will make 32 end up landing in a higher spot in the end anyway.

mid/fwd or 'forward half' mid, with a point of difference (compared to some of our other inside mids or fwds who rotate inside) in that he's a great runner.

I'd suggest there's a base level pressure & standard of defensive work that is an expectation for our forward half players, which is typical for most of the league, then the guys hitting those markers would be ranked off the offensive/attacking output (not necessarily goals but involvements or intangibles like their use of space, etc).

...How many times has this happened in the last decade?

I actually don't mind the idea of taking Billings. When he was at his peak he was a handy player in a difficult position (HF). Really depends on how his body is

If the trade went a little something like this I'd be happy

Out: Dow & Pick 78
In: Billings & F2 (a percent of his current wage to be subsided by St Kilda)
