If the reports are true - that the offer is $600k base with easily triggered incentives that make the actual wage higher than $700k, the question has to be asked - why would St. Kilda do this??
It can only be because the VFL have orchestrated it this way to ensure no pick 2. It's clear the media have been pushing against pick 2 in Victoria. There has been a clear narrative about it.
So, by tabling this offer Crouch gets the deal he wants, but Crows miss out on pick 2. St. Kilda risk losing Crouch or pick 15, which doesn't seem to benefit them at all. Surely they just make it $700k+ and lock in pick 2 if they are going to end up paying that much anyway??

The only way this makes sense is if the AFL have orchestrated this to make sure we don't get pick 2. Nothing else about it makes any sense at all.
It stinks.
I have to admit that the further this goes, the more things don’t make sense, and when things in the AFL don’t make sense then usually the AFL and their paranoia about bad publicity is behind it.

I'd say it's very convenient for the AFL that the Saints designed enough low ranked triggers through the contract that it pushes our compo straight down.

That's the impression I get also.
Looks like it has the AFL finger prints all over it.
AFL have told Saints what type of deal they can offer as all the media have been bleating that Adelaide cant get pick 2

Emailed the club. Won't be renewing if Brad Crouch compo of pick 23 is accepted.

Don't believe anything Rowe says. We should match otherwise we look weak. Brad sounds like he is off regardless so therefore we force a trade with Saints. If they really want him they will cave with pick 15. Otherwise we trade Brad to another club and pay 150K of his wage to get a better pick. Pick 5 from gold coast to us for Brad (including the crows paying 150k of his wage). Means gold coast will only need to pay around 450k a year for Brad. Big win for gc, win for us.
Brad is out of contract, you can't pay part of contracts when there isn't one. You can only pay part of contract when you are trading a contracted player.

Next idea?

Surely we are not that stupid

Every time I see one of these Twitter pages, I just assume it’s pjcrows 😂

These bullsh*t Twitter aliases are made by bored people who want to make stuff up for attention.

What would yours be if you had one? I'm taking @TheTradeGuru and my avatar would be a grey football with a question mark inside of it. See, easy.

If we are even contemplating not matching and accepting pick 24 we would be far better off in getting rid of Sloane for a pick around that mark.

I'm sure someone in the window would want him (we pay part of his wage, like we seem to do of late)

Brad with a cheaper contact plus positive age/ability >>>>>> Sloane more expensive contract negative age/ability.

We can't go with Crouch x 2 and Sloane next season.
Club would be stupid not to match ....there will be takers for Crouch for a 8-12 Draft Pick

So match, go thru the trade period .....and then later, if no-one wants to trade, you hold

You can always trade again next year too

This, and the American election - it's weird how emotional stressful I'm finding things that don't really effect me.
You really care about the US election. God which nearly 80 year old is going to lead a country I don’t really care about is registering about 0.1 on my give a f.. scale

Real smart move by the AFL further damaging a club that finished last. We need to challenge this bs. Sorry but pick 7 for Daniher is a disgrace. I think we match and demand 2 firsts. At this stage I don't care if Brad goes into the preseason draft and we get nothing. Clearly Brad, Winter, St Kilda and the AFL have conspired to make sure the deal gets done without us being adequately compensated.

That's a good point. Keep him, if he has a great year his value will increase and he could get that deal he was after, we improve our position trading a contracted player.

are you high?
Not high, just being realistic, NO club offered Brad sufficient $ to trigger Band 1 over sufficient years to satisfy Brad, that is FACT no matter how many on this board want to spin it otherwise.

If Brad was a good enough player to command $800k over 4 years and clubs could get him for free they'd be lining up. But Brad is not good enough to earn that kind of contract - FACT

There is 1 PR play that could still be winner.

We not only match but have Brad accept and do a joint press conference to say how happy all parties are with the outcome.

We went through a process and we arrived at the right outcome for everyone, except St Kilda.
Maybe that’s the delay. Convincing Brad of this.

Can just see us taking 23, Weak ass club won't even watch them next year. like this right here will set us back another 5 years.

I mean this would work up to the point where we look a little bit silly for paying maximum market value rather than keeping Brad for unders

if we dont match reid needs to be fired, end of.
Accepting #23 (blows out to #27) for a player on a 5 year Contract @ $700K a year .....would be lunacy

Any rumor suggesting the "big picture" is to spin the pick into a first round is also in fantasy land .....we already have the chips to achieve that

Match and do a trade with another club other than St Kilda ......that's a proper professional approach, just don't restrict yourself to dealing with one club

We're keeping him for less than we offered pre-COVID, right?

This process allowed Brad to discover his market value and we're matching it and not a penny more.

If we'd signed him up before knowing that, we're just bidding against ourselves. Clearly, the numbers were less than Crouch was anticipating.

The AFL wouldn't give a shit if we finished last every year as long as we didn't cost them $. Strong membership base means they don't give two ****s about helping us.

As a supporter base we seem to make a lot of threats like this
