I sent the club's suggested email to the Premier's office, who have just responded. It includes this:

While the budget for 2017-18 for sporting facilitates across the state
is already committed, a re-elected Palaszczuk Government will certainly
consider the $65 million commercial proposal for new training facilities
for the Lions and a playing field for the women's team at Springfield
for funding in the 2018-19 budget.

The commercial partner with the Brisbane Lions and the AFL is the
Springfield Land Corporation. The current $65 million proposal seeks
contributions of $12 million from the Ipswich City Council, $15 million
from the Queensland state government and $10 million from the Federal
government.

The Brisbane Lions will open their 2018 AFL Women's season with a
blockbuster grand final rematch against the Adelaide Crows at Norwood
Oval in Adelaide on 3 February 2018. The match will be a golden
opportunity for the Lions to gain revenge after suffering such a narrow
loss to the Crows in the 2017 AFLW Grand Final.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and her government wish the AFL women's
competition every success.

Doesn't sound like a commitment is coming, guys.

Get on Facebook Twitter email carrier pigeon and harass them to match the LNP money people. We whinge a lot on here about lack of funding, well now is the time to harass them. It may make no difference but it could tip the scales and what have we lost by giving it a crack. Time to put up

Remind her that the Lions are part of a national league, played at the biggest stadium in Qld, and therefor when games are played there majority of those football states are watching what is going on in her state..

Qld is on show.....would look better if it can be seen to be looking after the Lions......and not just looking after a tiddly winks two state game.

Sorry, the Broncos need new ivory backscratchers.

Are they definitly not? Thought on the Lions webstite they went with the line "it is understood that Labor are helpful in this cause but havent come out publicly" or something to that extent

Have you read the rest of the page? That's what I'm basing the comment off.

That is one of the worst form responses I've ever read. What is with their evocative description of our round 1 away game in the second last paragraph?

Just a gratuitous pat on the head to make it sound like they are "into" the AFLW. Must appear politically correct even if you are committing to nothing.

The paragraph almost looks/feels like it was cut and pasted in as an afterthought.

Did my bit.

The womens' sport angle is the go.

Anastacia is a woman. So is Jackie.

I have to say, I wish governments would respond this way to most expensive sporting facilities that offer little in the way of public utility.
I'm not sure this project deserves that treatment though.
NSW to announce $2b to be spent on stadiums today.
Absolute joke by the way, rebuilding a 20 year old stadium is just ****ing ridiculous.

Well, if they [the ALP that is] can throw $200m away in Townsville on a single-sport dedicated rugby league stadium that might be used, say, a dozen times a season, I reckon a $15m contribution toward, inter alia, a broad-based facility that will include capacity for the fastest growing womens' sport [netball] in one of the fastest growing regions in the State isn't a bad deal.

I didn't say I don't think this particular project should get government funding, I said more expensive sporting facilities should get this kind of response.

I'm in one of, if not the most, marginal seats in the State so am rather looking foward to it all coming to an end.

We've had robo-calls every night for weeks- one night I had 3!! Even had a call from GetUp one night, and managed to get out, "well you can get stuffed" before, as usual, I hung up.

As well as the two main candidates, we've been graced by shopping mall visits from John Howard and, apparently, Tony Abbott, but, inexplicably, not Anastacia [although to be fair she announced the election at the Darra Cementco Hall. Mind you, she needed 4 security persons to accompany her in her walk-through of the Darra Ethnic Street Festival last year- what did this suggest, I've always wondered. Maybe, can't be too careful with all these ethnic persons, especially Polish people. My wife is Polish and I can confirm the need for caution].

Probably wrongly, I am anticipating all sorts of dramas at the polling booth tomorrow.
