Grundy makes us better at clearances for starters.

He‘s also a better runner than the other two and that suits our game style.

His last game was dominant even when injured.
His last game was only 'dominant' in the last quarter after an appeal from McCrae at 3/4 time. I only recall him being beaten prior to then.

Still dominated though. I cannot believe that we will pay him to play against us, Trust Wright but surely another team like North can give us picks and take his whole contract, if we have to rid ourselves of this meddlesome priest.

“ Fact is Grundy hasn’t helped us win a flag” - wow.
Maybe you can provide the name of the player who’ll win us a flag with the money we are now spending on Grundy.
“Gun Ruckman doesn’t win Premierships” - I beg to differ with Gawn. And Grundy is more than capable of same.
I disagree that Grundy is more than capable of contributing as significantly to a premiership win as Gawn. Gawn was BOG last week with 30 possessions which included a number of marks and possessions up forward - had he kicked goals not points, Melbourne would have won the game. Grundy doesn't even rate compared to Gawn in terms of forward play or his ability to mark around the ground. And let's not forget that Grundy has not followed up his ruckwork with the second efforts in clearances that made him such an effective player till 2019. Even his last final's performance against WC, when he was supposedly still playing at his best, was disappointing. I think some posters have forgotten just how ordinary his form has been over the last three years.

My concerns stem from the 18-19 period. During that time WHE and josh thomas played well and looked like stars, Stevo was rising star and expected to be anything. Even cal brown was good in 19.. phillips played well, sier had a good period. Its just a perfect storm. I think many players peaked during that time. We’ve been waiting for Grundy to hit that form again, but is he going to? Is WHE? Cal brown? Stevo? Phillips? I’m on the fence but after 3 years I don’t magically see Grundy hitting that form again. Same as I don’t see whe or Stevo. His recent knee and now ankle issues only ads to these further concerns.

Does a 2nd round get it done with Collingwood paying 300k of his salary?

If this is true, Collingwood certainly doesn't seem as keen as many are suggesting in retaining Grundy's services beyond this year. Looks more like there is a real attempt being made to move him on, especially given the rumour that we are prepared to pay $300000 a year for 5 years to another club. Also indicates that his market value is way below what he was valued at when he was contracted for 7 years.

Form is temporary- Talent is permanent.
Grundy took 6 marks in his AFL last game on Anzac Day, and humbled Draper, in the last QTR when the game was on the line - and he did it on ONE LEG.
Melb and Geel are not interested in Grundy because he’s passed it, but because they know how good he is.
And Fly has made it clear we are better with Grundy.

So the best judges don’t believe his ordinary form over the last 2 COVID interrupted years, is a true reflection of his talent, nor do they doubt his ability to get back to his best.

It appears that Geelong and Melbourne are interested in the 650k Grundy not the 950k Grundy. I am sure Collingwood would retain a 650k Grundy.

Geelong and Melbourne see an opportunity to pick up highly paid ruckman cheaply. That they are seemingly only prepared to pay him $650000 a year is a fair indication of how he is valued - a previous poster covered this point. If Fly really thinks as highly of him as claimed, then why is the club contemplating off-loading him? As JLC said, at $650000 a year, those of us questioning his worth would be silenced.

At the same time, I see no justification for suggesting he can get back to his best. You excuse his '2 COVID interrupted years'. Why? Why on close to a million a year should he have not risen to the challenge of hub life etc, as plenty of other lesser paid players did? From a club leader and best paid player, I'd have expected an example to be set by him rather than having the covid AFL experience being used by him as an excuse.

Common sense is the justification for him getting back to his best. Fly has got many of the team playing far better than we expected. Therefore common sense suggests he’s capable of getting Grundy back to his best.
You clearly have your doubts about Fly in this regard which I don’t share.

Melb and Geel see the opportunity to get an AA Ruckman, and player at one point considered the best in the game by Leigh Mathews, at a bargain price.

And Fly is no different to Goodwin ( re Jackson) in honestly seeing Grundy as a very important cog, despite contract issues.
Don’t you think both are badgering the list managers to get deals done, so they can keep their respective players?

I think he’ll go back to SA, Port would be mad to not take on at least 750k of his yearly contract, I don’t think Melbourne would really be the team that would have enough leverage with their salary cap

There is no common sense in just thinking he will recover his best form, this is his 3rd down season in a row and to expect him to turn it around is just wishful thinking.I know you are going to say he was injured this season but for me he did not look all that flash before the injury, another thing is after 3 poor yrs in row he should be willing to take a pay cut to stay if he is as loyal to the club as you surmise personally I am not so sure you are right in fact I think you are delusional about him.

The ball is in Grundys court and we will see how loyal he is,personally if he took a $250 000 pay cut I would keep him but only if he accepted a cut and as I outlined he should accept just on the basis of 3 s--- yrs in a row.
