Look, I'm not going to parrot McCrae by saying that we're better with Grundy, but we're better with Grundy...

If he can accept a pay cut.

That would silence the haters and show his commitment to the group. He's on too much. The club has made that plain by allowing him to gauge his current worth in the market.

I hope they can work it out.
If he's on say $900 k and another club will pay him $650 k and we top up $250 k of his salary we get $650k off our books for 3 ? years but we're paying another club a fair whack for the privilege (?)

We get McStay in for x years at $650 k.

Player wise and cap wise are we better off in the next 3 or so years?

Put it this way.... could we use Treloar in our midfield atm?

I have it on good authority that a solid percentage of his salary is devoted to the building and maintenance of wildlife shelters in the Amazon.

He's not giving the money back. You can get stuffed.

You know who needs the cash? This guy: Carlos, the Amazonian Jaguar.

Note: I also think it was a silly contract by the club.
I'm glad you're not parroting stuff with a big cat

I see your point and agree with you pedantic Grammar Nazi. We don't want another Treloar debacle.

It is why in my best case scenario Brodie accepts a slight cut and we keep him. He gets to remain a part of an awesome group and hopefully wins a flag with them.

JB1975 I have no doubt that your facts re: Grundy's support for Amazon wildlife are 100% true but mate I'm hurt by your savagery. It will take me some time to recover and regroup; such was the ferocity of your verbal assault. Brutal ruthless bast*rd you are.

We're not better off.

In affect we are paying McStay 900k. 650 for him and 250 to Brodie.
Better off just keeping Brodie.
Now I am not factoring in any picks we might get because going by Collingwood precedent I don't think it will be much at all.
If we got a good pick as well then it's worth it.

Otherwise if we are paying any of Grundys salary then it's a bad deal for us.

Who are we paying treloars 900?

Did we get rid of Treloar so we could afford to bring someone in or because we just didn't have the money to pay him.

As it stands we are freeing up cap space to bring in McStay or Toranto or whoever.

In affect that person is costing us whatever we are paying Brody.

Mathematics is simple.

No trade, Grundy stays, costs us 900k.
Trade Grundy bring in McStay and it costs us 600k plus 300k of Grundys money = 900k

Again I am not factoring in any picks. If we get a decent pick then the whole thing changes.

Love the way you work.

Thanks Otto - that what I was thinking - reassuring to have your highly tuned input 👍

Just trade the poor guy.

Pay 300k of his salary (which is what 2% of the cap this season?).

Get a pick.

Move on.

Worth it to get out of the contract.
By your reasoning he's not worth anywhere near what we're paying him?

What about DeGoey who misses a lot through injury plus his off field "entertainment"?

I don't know what we are paying him.

I do feel that his contract has been blown up into such an issue that its having an effect on the club.

If I could only retain one of Grundy or JDG I would keep Jordy, even with his nocturnal behaviour.

I still think Grundy is a great footballer.

i'd like to see grundy given a full year in the new environment. If that doesnt work, then trade him
What do you think they would get for him if he was to have an ordinary season, and then be shopped around at nearly 30 years of age?
If we keep him on and the end of this year, we’re in for the long haul.

yeh i suppose i think he is already being shopped around for not much..

he was a good player 18/19. and people were saying that the sky was falling post treloar stevo departure....so what if he gets shopped out for 600K and a second rounder next year instead of a first rounder this year?

If we plan to part ways, it’s best to do it sooner rather than later.
Bad relationships rarely get better with time.

Agree - this idea Grundy is shopping himself around is one view, but it’s more likely he’s establishing his worth as part of negotiations and assessing the fairness of any reduced offer by the Club.

All good if he and his manager realise his market value and adjust his price accordingly.

It would have to be a good pick because otherwise, we’re just swapping Grundy for McStay which is a downgrade.

Need an environment the players want to play in without needing to pay everyone top $$ - I think we're well on the way to that.

Been wondering who had a leading role in Grundy's big contract - are you there Ed?

2% is a lot when you’re also paying ~2% to Treloar, and the salary floor is 95% of the cap

Surely payments to players at other clubs are included in the tpp floor?

2% is also a relatively worst case scenario figure and with the new CBA starting next season I would predict a significant cap increase.

Given reports that we were able to front load some of Treloar's payments, if we could move into a situation with Grundy off the books, a decent pick in return and 3% of the cap going to Treloar and Grundy at other clubs would you take that deal?
