Oppo Camp Brodie Grundy (Traded to Melbourne 2022)

I was upset to lose him for pick 27, but if he doesn’t do something about these issues quickly that’s going to start looking like the deal was in our favour tbh.
The deal was in our favour without a pick because of the contract. But I think his obituary is being written too soon. He'll still play some good footy around stoppage. But he'll never star again as the game has got too fast and you wouldn't want him playing as a linkman like he used to at his best under Bucks.

I hadn’t previously paid much attention to Fremantles involvement in helping us getting the Grundy deal done. Paying massively overs for Jackson meant that melbourne were able to hit the draft hard in compensation. This combined with the salary cap freed up that was allocated to jackson for retention, perhaps incentivised Melbourne to roll the dice on Grundy.

Well done Dockers!

Call me crazy but I think your first sentence contradicts your second and third which contradicts your fourth!

You're crazy.

I meant I think he'll still be a serviceable ruckman who does well around stoppage, but no longer a star as he no longer offers anything outside of stoppage. Thus getting most of his star contract off our books was a big win.

I think that you're right. Small sample size and the swings in assessment about his form are ridiculous. I didnt see his whole game last week but he was fairly average from what I saw and that continued this week. In fact, he looked very familiar to the post covid grundy in both games. He's just not attacking the ball post ruck contest. The thing that differentiated him from other rucks was he kept going at the ball. He was engaged while the opposing ruck stood back like they usually do. In the end, Melbourne probably got a fair deal to replace a ruckman. We managed to re-adjust our salary books. I think it was a fair outcome. He might rise again but he needs to rekindle his passion for the game... and really needs to connect to his team-mates.

He still is knocking the ball to his feet and hoping to gather it which is a mystery to me with the quality of the Dees midfielders. it may take awhile for him to settle in at Melbourne but he has not got 5 yrs left in him.
Will be interesting to see how the Melbourne midfielders go with Grundy and no Gawn for a month

He will star against us

The one thing Grundy bought, which we missed last season, was his clearance work and inside 50s.

That’s now been addressed, we are in a far better position in terms of list and cap.

But Melbourne were smart enough to move him and get overs.

Then they fcked it all up by getting Grundy 😆

Just as I'm happy to give our new players time to adjust to their new club, teammates, coaching staff, and gameplan, I'm happy to give Grundy time. I think he'll be a good get for the Dees.

It’s really hard to believe this is the same guy who was tearing the comp apart pre-pandemic. He’s a shadow of what he was in 2018/19. I’ve been telling myself he’ll get back to his best eventually, but at nearly 29, he’s running out of time in the sweet area he should be peaking in…
Really does make one wonder if the pandemic broke him.

Glad people are starting to see the half assed bloke that he was after the big contract.

Trading Grundy has played a huge part in us being a threat. Camerons tap work and ability to get around shits on him.

I dunno about figuratively, but there were times during 2020-21 when he looked completely cooked. Like, contest an outlet mark along the wing, it gets spoilt over the boundary line, and he took an absolute eternity to pick himself up again and get moving. But it wasn’t that he incurred a specific injury on that play, or in that game… it was just the state of his body at that point in his career, or at least that’s how it seemed.
