With respect mate, I don't care if he improves or not.
I'm comfortable with the decision and the resultant change to our game style.

Noted - thanks RonI doubt fancy French restaurants do soy lattes

Arguably they are one in the sameIt's the aggression he needs to get back.
Grundy used to have a bit of mongrel about him back in the day. Dunno where it went. It's the aggression he needs to get back.
This period of the 2020 season broke him:Really does make one wonder if the pandemic broke him.
Grundy is a clearance player that can ruck. It’s absurd to say because he doesn’t mark as well as other talls that he is somehow inferior. And Grundy on the weekend had zero marks on 86% game time. Last week 1 mark. How is that possible?
Cox providing better value than Grundy at the moment at least.
Not a great tap ruckman like he once was. 2 years or more of being average.Grundy is a clearance player that can ruck. It’s absurd to say because he doesn’t mark as well as other talls that he is somehow inferior.
Don’t disagree that we are better balanced and better off. But Grundy’s strength was always his clearance work and around the ball pressure and tackling. Neither Cameron, Cox or any other ruckman bring that skill set.Not a great tap ruckman like he once was. 2 years or more of being average.
Doesn't take big marks around the ground.
In comparison Cameron and Cox are better options.
It's the way Fly and our club see it.
So far so good for us
Completely forgot about that period, wow. 4 games in 13 days in August is absurd! This period of the 2020 season broke him:

5 games in less than 3 weeks. He BADLY needed a rest after NicNat dominated him over in Perth. I remember making the call at the time to give him a rest and to bring in Max Lynch for the Freo, Sydney and Adelaide games. The overwhelming response on the board:"hOw cAn yOu dRoP aN aLl aUsTrAlIaN rUcKmAn?" How? Because he's completely bolloxed and we're about to play 3 teams in a row who have very average rucks that Max Lynch woul do just fine against. Why have a backup ruckman if you're never gonna use them when your main ruck is in dire need of a rest? Even just one of those 3 games Lynch could've come in for, but nope.

It is more absurd to argue a ruck doesn't have to take marks consistently. You don't pick rucks to be clearance players, that is just a bonus. What you want is aerial presence.Grundy is a clearance player that can ruck. It’s absurd to say because he doesn’t mark as well as other talls that he is somehow inferior.
EFA. Cameron received a pay kick last year with his contract extension.Ones on prob 500ish, the others on 900. I’ll let you decide which is which

Grundy had close to 50 hit outs last game…isn’t that what a ruckman should do?It’s cool to have a ruckman who can win clearances, but when you’re still getting beaten as a team for clearances despite this ability, and your ruckman isn’t doing the other aspects of a ruckman’s role you’d expect (taking outlet marks or dropping back into the hole…), you’ve got to wonder what the advantage is.
Better to have a ruckman who can do all the things you need from a big man, and keep the midfielders accountable for doing their jobs.
Extolling Grundy’s virtues as a roving midfielder is like getting excited because (hypothetically) Mihocek can do ruckwork and apply pressure in the forward 50m arc. But he doesn’t take marks on the lead or kick goals.
Yep he has gone from best ruck ever in 2018 to very good player. Rucks are there to clear the ball, Grundy does that on his own.It is more absurd to argue a ruck doesn't have to take marks consistently. Brody has been poor the first two weeks. While he has never been good aerially, as a player he is a shadow of what he was a few years back.
Not crashing packs, not taking big marks around the ground, not kicking big goals…won’t define me, as a playerYeah, he'll take his one pack mark for the year against us.

Hang on, but they aren’t to advantage…ok, but if Grundy is tapping them down they aren’t to the oppositions advantage either.
So the point stands, he’s a clearance player that rucks just about as good as anybody, tackles hard, plays hard, kicks truly at goal… contrary to popular belief can mark a ball ( although not elite).
Grundy is a gun.

He declined in value sure…he had close to 50 hit outs last week. If it was anybody else you’d be singing his praises. There are many great players in the competition who mark worse than Grundy.

Hit outs are effectively a useless stat - clearances are what teams aim forHe’s very good at winning hit outs. Not very good at doing many other aspects of a ruckman’s role, nor having those hitouts lead to the team winning clearance differential. He is good at elements of football which are not normally strengths of ruckmen.
The question is; would you rather Grundy win you hitouts and clearances, get some decent tackle numbers and high possession counts for a ruckman?
Or would you rather your ruckman broke even in the hitouts, took more marks, kicked a few goals, provided an outlet from defence, dropped back as an extra in defence when the other team went long I50, and Tom Mitchell got the clearances and tackles instead?
Grundy doing small man stuff is nice, but we have quality small men. Taylor Adams, Scott Pendlebury, Tom Mitchell, Jack Crisp, De Goey and Nick Daicos can’t ruck, we need a big presence for that.
