Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

I hate it when someone goes to so much effort, and obviously has a very good knowledge of the draft, and posters take lazy pot shots from the sidelines.

I guarantee Burgatron has a vastly superior knowledge on the draft over the amateurs who read draft descriptions on bigfooty.
Because he is obviously thinking Melbourne will go on a needs policy at 17/19, when we have openly said we will be taking best available. I've seen both Roughead and Lynch play and there is no chance i would want to take them that high.

Lynch is a Bate clone and Roughead is NOT a top 20 pick.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

last year he had the palmer / myers scenario backwards. hopefully the same this year with Hurley / yarran.

I have no idea why your concerned about us picking Hurley, I think he will be a deadset GUN. However, I also think Vickery is also a very good option.

I thought Vickery was top 4 for sure. And we would have swooped if he dropped.(ditto if rich/nat or watts dropped as well)

A highly rated ruckman would be an awesome addition given the make up of the Essendon list at the moment.

As for Yarran, he would/could be awesome and I certainly would not bemoan us taking him.

But as a small forward, haven't we already got a good stockpile???(davey/lovett/monfries/jetta....etc).

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

Judging by how worked up people have got themselves over this PHake draft I am so not looking foward to coming on here Saturday morning

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

His speed was what I was talking about. When your that size you want to be QUICK, he not only wasnt quick, he was one of the slowest mids. I know he plays quicker than that but it may be a reason why RMs are not huge fans.
That does surprise me as he does look quick on the park. Why the hell are the AFL so tight with the camp results. It annoys me every year especially when I am not one who has access to them.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

It will be interesting to see where Quayle has Lynch. She didn't have him in her top 25.

I like him though and think he will add a lot culture wise. Might not be a star but Harley wise he would be a good leader. A die in a ditch sort of team player. If Melb had gone Swift and then Lynch I think they would have done very well. Roughhead I don't rate myself but maybe Melb really do.

If you think it's bullsh1t then don't get fired up about it, because surely the real version will be closer to what you perceive as a good draft for you.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

I will be f'n dirty, and be leading the charge to sack Prendergast. Shocking draft from Burgan, a shame, i expected him to at least be mildly accurate. Picking Lynch and Roughead over Swift and Schoenmakers is an absolute joke.

But the draft hasn't happened yet.
How can he be either accurate or inaccurate?

This place gets sillier by the day

I just think it's inaccurate because surely we aren't stupid enough to pick up Lynch and Roughead over Swift and Schoenmakers. Anyway i will be proven right / wrong by 11:00 on Saturday.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

Carlton's defenders are underrated. They have Jamison, Bower and Austin.
Austin has done nothing of note. Looked out of depth. Bower is a good third tall. Jamison is a good prospect. Draft Hurley IMO.

Jamison FB Hurley CHB and Bower third tall. Very good.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

Who 'won' the draft in your opinion?

I think Richmond and West Coast are the big winners.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

I thought Freo did very well from that draft. Westcoast was definately a winner as well.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

IMO i would prefer to get swift rather than Blease, even if he has suspect knees.

Of course they are because they have great draft positions. While some preferred choices might fall your way or not, to a large degree any team with 4 picks in the top 38 this year will be doing well.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

The draft is a joke in terms of what we get (apart from Watts)...

Why we would overlook Swift, Schoenmakers and McKernan with our 2nd round picks I have no idea...

I would rather any of Blight, Wright, Rounds or O'keefe than Walters (why we need another crumbing small forward i have no idea...)

Let alone TWO with Neville Jetta at 51!!
Luke Thompson or Taylor Hunt would be better here...

64. Glen Dawson- could be OK...ran 2.75sec over 20m at State Screening and can play a bit apparently, so might be worth a punt if available...

He obviously hasn't paid too much attention to what our needs are. Which is tall forwards, and quick and/or skillful midfielders...Where's Michael Still??

If our draft turns out like this, i'll burn an effigy of Barry Prendergast in my backyard

Walters isnt a small forward! Just because he's a small indigenous player, people figure he is a small forward. Might start off on a flank but is really a pure midfielder.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

10 – ADELAIDE – JACKSON TRENGOVE
Calder Cannons, VIC, Tall forward, November 1, 1990, 196.5cm, 88.5kg
(Draft range: 5-16)

28 – ADELAIDE – LUKE SHUEY
Oakleigh Chargers, VIC, Medium midfielder, June 2, 1990, 183.5cm, 87.6kg
(Draft range: 15-40)

44 – ADELAIDE – CASEY SIBASADO
Northern Territory Thunder, NT, Tall defender, October 13, 1990, 192.9cm, 84.7kg
(Draft range: 28-not selected)

60 – ADELAIDE – ZAC CLARKE
Oakleigh Chargers, VIC, Ruckman, September 28, 1990, 202.5cm, 82.5kg
(Draft range: 37-77)

72 – ADELAIDE – BEN BUCOVAZ
Geelong Falcons, VIC, Medium defender, November 2, 1990, 188.4cm, 88.2kg
(Draft range: 39-not selected)

I'm really happy with Adelaide's pick's If I could lock these players in and take em i would!

I suppose we'll all have to wait for Saturday!

That's not true. Its got nothing to do with the fact he's an indigenous boy.

Its got more to do with the fact that he lacks the endurance to play through the midfield at this stage. He's not overly quick either. I think he's a very good little player, but he's going to be pigeon-holed as a small forward/flanker until he improves his fitness base...

We really need fast midfielders/half-backs with a good endurance base at this stage...

At the end of the day i couldn't care less what Burgatron thinks...

The fact is, he's given no consideration to what we need..And I would also debate that he has 'vastly superior knowledge' than what I do :D...Like he's some sort of oracle or something. Only God has THAT sort of knowledge my friend...

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

Just concentrate on who he said we were interested in more then the actual picks.

Last year his PD was rated as good because he got most of the players in the first round, but not necessarily going to the right clubs. So while he gets good info as to which clubs are interested in which players, he has to use his own judgement as to which of 3 or 4 or 5 players he thinks that each club will choose at that pick.

Not great picks IMO, but the important thing was to see names like Schoenmakers, Swift, Strauss, Beams, Suban, Redden & Roughead to consider. He actually named 12 players we'd be considering for pick 17, so odds are he's NFI as to which one we'll actually take.

Yeah true, but if your sitting there thinking Tom Lynch would be a better pick at 17 when you've mentioned Swift, Schoenmakers & McKernan (all touted as possible top 10 picks...) then why pick Lynch?

It just confounds me...But anyway, you take it with a grain of salt. He would get paid by AFL.com to do it though...

Would probably do a better job than me with his 'vastly superior knowledge' of football anyway :p

Get over yourself.

Sitting back and taking pot shots at a guy who has give an extremely detailed phantom draft doesn't give you any superiority.

Nor is waiting for the draft to come and say "I told you so", as there are many variations that could happen and Buratron doesn't pretend to be 100% accurate.

Its just a good read before draft, and he has been known to be very accurate with his selections and I guarantee you his opinion in 100 times more credible than yours.

Gee some of you Melbourne supporters are self centered and ignorant.

Its a great read, and a guide and a respected opinion.

Great draft experts stopped giving their opinion and draft reviews due to lazy and unwarranted criticism from dumb supporters, and unfortunately it is still going on.

People appreciate these articles so why bag it, when obviously he is one of the better journalists at doing this type of thing.

Those with no clue have very load and critical opinions for some reason, doesn't make any sense to me.

You think its an ignorant opinion do you? So you'd be happy with Lynch & Roughead, instead of Schoenmakers, Swift or McKernan at 17 & 19???

I don't think my criticism is unwarranted, go crawl back under your rock matey...

But anyway, I'm not going to post again in this thread because the self-righteousness of a couple (sorry one) Hawthorn supporter is too much to bear quite frankly...See Ya!!

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

6 – CARLTON – CHRIS YARRAN
Swan Districts, WA, Medium forward, December 19, 1990, 180.3cm, 83.3kg
(Draft range: 3-13)

The intrigue continues at No.6. The Blues have been strongly linked to Hartlett and Hurley, but there are no guarantees they will still be there, with Rich, Hill, Ziebell and Trengove also in Carlton's mix. There is a school of thought the Blues will select Yarran if available regardless of who slips through to 6. He could be taken at No. 3 by Fremantle or slide through to No.12 (Sydney Swans). Some recruiters believe Yarran is the most talented player in this year's draft and considering Carlton's small/mid-sized forward options need bolstering, he fits 'best available' and 'needs'.

So this pick is between Yarran, Hartlett, Hurley, Rich, Hill, Ziebell and Trengrove. Gee thanks for clearing that up Burgan :thumbsu: :p
