Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

Nice to see Schoenmakers getting a lot of recognition, just a pity it'll probably be at Adelaide's expense for a second round pick.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

I know you don't draft for need, but us getting Hill and Wright as a rangey flanker and leading small forward is simply idiotic.

What would we do with Wright? He'd be about 10th in line for a leading small forward spot.

Hill...meh!

Get me a real midfielder or three please Derek...

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

I think you'd find over the years he has been pretty close, and if he has missed then its usually one of the reserves. His mail on Thomas and Pendles going was on the money. Tend to find the later he goes he can be off the mark but thats to be expected as the draft is so fluid.

Re this years draft most Pie fans will be headless that he hasnt got Swift going to them and instead has an 'outside type' but to be fair.

Hill
Beams
Sam Wright
Gillies
Savage

wouldnt be a bad mix and as always - he knows much better than we do

Re other players - surprised I didnt see;

Chris Hall - amazes me the most to be honest.
Tyson Slattery
Milne - lot of his type so can understand I guess
Allwright
Shannon - ditto Milne
Still ? - cannot remember seeing him
John Rayner - although he is bottom aged.

Great read though and he does not know his stuff.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

Is anyone else thinking about going online tomorrow and asking him why his phantom draft is terrible(needs wise) this year?

Agreed on the Pies pick..you lose your best inside mid..and you draft a outside receiver..makes absolutely no sense. Mind you this year half his selections make no sense so I'd be stunned if this draft is even close to the real thing!

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

Carlton's defenders are underrated. They have Jamison, Bower and Austin.

I have much faith in those guys, another skinny 18 year old what be much help, putting years and muscle into these guys will.

We have a good young defensive structure, we really don't have any young key forwards.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

lol u people are funny crying over who Matt says your getting if u take a look at the past drafts where his picked players theres a pretty good chance the player he picked for your team now you will NOT get so u should be happy then

I'm sure he would enjoy being harassed by a group of irate BF posters. ;)

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

I've been staggered that there has been no mention of him at all on here though he has been playing primarily School football for Scotch. A great all-round footballer and a terrific athlete. Holds the high jump record at Scotch College and is a very handy basketballer. Still skinny but also still growing. Performed well at state screening, has a great motor, can do some special things with the ball and provides a great target up forward. Played Key Position and ruck for Scotch and Claremont.

And probably the best news is he's from Dowerin, yep just like Buddy. He Kicked 11 goals in his one appearance for them earlier this year.
Cheers JIG, haven't heard his name at all but sounds like a typical Clayton type

Just wondering if i am the only one disappointed that he has only picked two midfielders and no key backs.

Surely midfielders, ruckmen and key back are our key needs and we defiantly dont need a medium forward or medium back.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

Probably. That's the problem when people (myself included), invest too much interest in these players pre-draft. ;)

Look at the Richmond supporters reaction to when you passed on Tambling.

Now Richard still developing and will be a good player but, wow, some of them really went over the top bagging Hawthorns recruiting because of things they've heard on BigFooty about players.

Bottom line, Burgan and most of all ALL the recruiters know more than everyone on here, although there are a few (5-15 range) that really know their stuff.

Everyone else (myself included as I don't see nearly enough TAC games to judge) let the results in 2-5 years judge it for you, but by all means be excited with who you think will be good, just don't bag experts because their opinions differ from your own.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

For all those bemoaning the fact he didn't select you a "pure midfielder", just how many "pure midfielders" are there running around today or are available in the draft?

Most young players start off playing in pockets and the flanks anyway.

At Collingwood's pick there are a few midfielders left and he picks a flanker. Swift makes sense at 11 and it just makes more sense and I struggle to see how they were dead keen on him a month ago and not keen now.

You'll no doubt be hoping that he's a lot better than the last DUD your recruiters picked up from Scotch! That's if it comes to fruition.

I would be pleased with these picks, not sure about the others though.

At least Thompson was able to hold his own at WAFL level, not a shocking pick for 83. Guys like Stribbling and Copping couldnt get a kick in WAFL reserves. And lets not mention Collard shall we.

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

Hall won the beep. I was expecting him to figure in the speed but he re-inforced his running ability.

His speed was what I was talking about. When your that size you want to be QUICK, he not only wasnt quick, he was one of the slowest mids. I know he plays quicker than that but it may be a reason why RMs are not huge fans.

Definitely.

Funny hearing after the draft "geez so and so did well".

How do you know?

2004 Hawthorn copped some serious bagging for missing out on one of Deledio, Griffen and Tambling, and were also bagged for taking Lewis too high.

4 Years later and it looks like a perfect hand from Hawthorn with their selections.

Every year someone like Burgatron comes out with a draft and someone says "no way he will slide" but the draft is never ever exactly how you think it will go, and the recruiters keep their cards very close to their chests.

Interesting Burgatron has Hawthorn taking Richmond's Danny Meyer with our last pick. He has been training with us, and Hawthorn were interested both the year he was drafted, and trade period last year. Given we have 5 selection, I'd be happy to take a punt with our 5th round selection on a talented player who hasn't got it right so far. Mostly because I know how much it'd annoy Richmond if he became a good player at the Hawks ;)

Re: Burgatron's Phantom Draft Due Today

Not a good draft for Fremantle. Really only 2 midfielders in Rich and Benjamin. The rest were either talls, or in between players like Pearce and Heyne. And with the players he has slipping past our picks, it doesn't look too good.

But I would love to have West Coast's picks.

So would i, and Melbourne has the pick before WC everytime:eek:

Not exactly the players i'm hoping the dees pick up, but the important thing is that in the review he's listed players that we're interested in, that of more importance then the actual players he's selected.
