Good young player unquestionably, but does he fill or meet a need?

Whereas a Motlop type (electric small forward) or a Bazzo/Van Rooyen (developing KPD) or a Dawes (tall wing/HFF/elite athlete) meet a need, Taylor would simply add to the pile of unproven mids with Philp, Dow, LoB, Carroll, Fisher....

He might step right up and deserve a best 22 spot, but that's unlikely.

Note: will we make a play for Matt Rowell at the end of '22 (noting his contract ends end of '23)?

For shits and giggles - one pick in a covid affected draft won't make or break our list....can see us trading 25 to bombers for 51 and future second (plus maybe some other back end swaps). Pick will come in to mid 40s after matched bids...and strengthen our hand next year

I wouldn’t trade the steam off my %$&# to Dodoro.

I hope we keep 25 and grab a good kid. Its still a very solid pick and after a shit year with COVID it’ll be like a Christmas present to us all, a shiny new toy so to speak.

Can only take 1 live pick this year.

More chance we move back in the draft tomorrow night and gain a future 3rd for our troubles.

I can see us trading 25 to the cats for 34 and a future 3rd and us taking McDonald
MacDonald, and I can't see that happening. I think Geelong will beat us to the punch and take MacDonald just ahead of us.

At this point I hope we don't get MacDonald. I've got no issue with the kid, but the fact that everyone seemed to know he was our target a month ago is pretty terrible.

Have a feeling Geelong or Hawthorn will take him with one of the picks in the 20's before us. Get a feeling Clarke will probably be our man by the end of tomorrow night

Tigers have said they will trade pick 15 to the highest bidder.. What would be an acceptable trade?? Sounds like they are not interested in picks from this year, so would a future 2nd get it done..

Is there any chance of us moving up using a lock from next year? I guess it’s a risky year to do so given the disrupted preparation/limited exposure of most draftees

Before the Jones retirement i would have said no, but I would be prepared to offer up a future 2nd or 3rd rounder to get another pick or picks in this draft if we were guaranteed of picking up a quality young KPD.

This is my thinking as well, use a future 2nd.. Considering we didnt take a 1st rounder last year and dont have one now if there is a way to sneak up the order and into the first round we should look at it, alternatively make sure we have 2 picks inside the top 30

The chances of us trading to move up are miniscule. Much more likely we'll trade back, we've got 25 on the table.

Think people are going to be very disappointed if they expect us to be active tonight.

We've said we're taking just the one pick and we've said we're content to pick where we're currently sitting.

I don't know how people see that and equate it to "oh we should be trading into the top 10 by giving up next year's first".

We may be active at the start of night two with reports suggesting there are a few teams keen to trade into the draft early in the second round, but my guess is we'll barely be sighted tonight.

I am yet to see anyone suggest we trade a future 1st, that would be crazy in this years draft however if there was a way to get another pick in the top 30, but trading a future 2nd that would be a reasonable result, provided there are players of interest to Austin around this mark. Its not picking for picking sake but considering we have barely played any of our draft picks from the past 2 years, I am concerned we will leave a hole in our list in 6-7years time if we dont at least have a crack.

Austin has directly said we'd be open to sliding our pick back to boost next year's draft hand.
Why are you suggesting we'd do the opposite?

The footy nuff in me wants as many picks in the first two rounds as possible but realistically it's so speculative this year and picking for immediate deficiencies is fraught with danger (and disappointment).

We have enough inside mids and back flankers, Austin has correctly identified outside mid/half fwd types as a deficiency and the talls next year are supposed to be much better.

If there was a reason it would relate to Jones' thing coming after Austin saying that.
We may now pivot to get a quality defender in the door asap to kickstart their development.
