Carlton will beat St.Klda

if Carlton couldn't even beat Freo then they are highly unlikely to beat the Saints.

the saints playing at their worst against teams playing their best, are still winning the games.

Carlton would need a full 4 qrt effort, which hasn't been done since rd one.....vs richmond.

Carlton still have a long, long way to go.

If the Saints dont play better than they did on Saturday, then any team is capable of beating them. To still be behind against the Roos, who are average at best, and with several players injured, tells me that the boys from Moorabbin are nowhere near their best currently. And have been getting worse week by week over the last month.

Whether we can take advantage, time will tell.

Go Blues!

I think the question needs to be asked - Are St Kilda the worst 11-0 team ever? :D

Christ I reckon we've received more praise for our performances during spoon years than we're getting this year.

Another sad indictment on football in 2009.

The Saints had a reminder on the wall prior to the Roos game that they had to start well. They didn't.

I think the message will be getting through now.

They always lift against us for some reason and are determined to maintain the mental edge they have. Losing a half to the undermanned Roos will be like losing a game in their minds I reckon and they will be breathing fire.

These days they always lift against the 'so-called' big 3-4 teams as though they have something to prove.

Carlton supporters in particular should just be sitting back and hoping things go well as it has the potential to get rather messy again.

The Ratten article today doesn't help matter either. Good to have faith but let's not motivate the opposition.

Swap the word "Fevola", and put in "Big Barry", "Walker", "Lynch", "Pav", "Brad Johnson", "Rocca", "Lloyd', "Browny", and it's like you're quoting straight from the first nine teams' supporters this year. Melbourne and North supporters were smart enough to stop using that line...

Of course, we could start playing the same game with Judd and your midfield, and go through all the super-mids Jones has crushed this year, and it wouldn't be fun for you.

jones won't crush judd. thats like a fight between a mouse and a lion(judd being the lion). jones just aint in the class of judd. he aint even good enough to clean judd`s boots

Brisbane ran out of defenders. Not good when Carlton's gameplan is kick it to Fev. Doesn't help either when raw defenders are being pinged when the FF stages for free kicks.

I'm confident we can shutdown Carlton like we have every other team this year.

Can't see their defense coming close to stopping us.

TBH, the main difference won't be talent. It will be in the coaching box.

Not a good argument to make when the Roos ran out of "players" on the weekend. An argument can be made that this was the reason why the Saints won on the weekend.

FWIW, I think the Saints will win, but what chance that the BF rocket scientists will all come out in force after the game, lamenting how bad St Kilda were, if in fact the Blues do manage to get a win, regardless of how well they play!

Saints to win by 20.

Good thing is we can give it 110%, go as hard as we can for the entire game, we then have a week off.

We can knock the Saints off, however, I'm not liking the 6 day break/returning from interstate.

Jones isn't an AFL players arseh*le.
Yet he remains an important player in a team that's undefeated.

Quite a remarkable performance considering the number of players we have pushing for selection. :D

Agreed. I was looking for a bite and threw it out there. He has surprised all year with his great tagging jobs when most saw him as an average player that would struggle to keep his spot. Plenty of supposed spuds have lifted their game including MacQualter and even Gardiner.

I'd prefer to be an honest toiler than a cheat if that's what you're asking.

Who wouldn't other than a cheat?

Not sure the word 'cheat' was used.

I think the main point is that those that 'have not' would find it easy to say that they would rather 'have not' than sink to the level (or aspire to the heights) of the 'haves'. Not all of those saying that would say the same thing if they were suddenly the 'haves' by virtue of the same circumstances as the 'haves' they did not want to emulate.

Carlton traditionally have been the 'haves' but not all of their acquired wealth came as a result of sinking to any perceived level. Take away that acquired as a result of a perceived level sinking and they would still be the 'haves'.

It is easier to take the high moral ground when you have nothing to lose. I suspect for argument's sake that if the Saints were to win a flag this year and were then found to be over the cap, that a healthy percentage of supporters would hold the view 'screw it, we have been sat by and watched every other club screw the system, about time we got something out of it.'

'Tis the nature of the beast. Not you of course Jeffrey, your integrity is well in hand.

Sorry for going off topic there, just trying to explain to diffuse more ill will.

St Kilda by 9-11 goals.

Get up to date.

Two years ago he was OK ish as an emergency inclusion.
Last year he was probably borderline in the Saints best 22 but impressed with courage and intensity.
This year in the pre-season he beefed up , got fitter, and improved his disposals.

Watch and learn.

There a certain times of a season where a side seems "due for a loss" even though they are better than the opposition and might beat them 4 out of 5 times. That's the nature of home and away footy. It's possible this game could be one of those 1 out of 5 weeks although the Saints should be heavy favorites and rightly so. See what happens. Saints have been playing so well this year that it'd be like getting "8 points" if Carlton got over them.

Recently though we've had trouble with big-bodied, defensive minded sides (Sydney, Adelaide, St.Kilda. Hawthorn, and of course Geelong). We don't seem to beat too many of them. Need to start beating one or two of them now to take a further step.

Carltons A grade players are good enough, definitely, Waite though is a massive loss v the Saints as he is one of the leagues best match ups on Riewoldt.

What Carlton need to do v the Saints is to have all of their B-C grade players up and firing, Betts/Houlihan etc but more especially their bottom 5 or so players which is where they are struggling the most with inconsistent output (well consistently no good).

In summary and more in keeping with the tone of the thread, what I'm trying to say is if Cameron Cloke gets a gig, put all your money on the Saints.

We will be looking for Bower to limit Riewoldt as he has done to Buddy in the past. Our best chance is for Riewoldt to do what he does best and lead out to 50 and beyond. Bower is a good rebounder and players like Scotland will fill the hole all day long around 40-50m out.

We will then be looking for Jamison to take Kosi but he will get slaughtered one on one without Thornton or at a pinch O'hAilpin coming in as third man up.

We will get flogged on fast forward entries so the midfield need to be more accountable than they ever have before.

On paper this looks like a clear St Kilda win, but I guess you never know...
