Can't seem to see Henry Walsh's name anywhere. Did he not get taken? Possible rookie selection?

Question, whats the obsession with this guy? Yes we need a ruckman but is it just the fact he is Walsh's brother? Is he any good? and when did people see him play last? (if ever)

Carroll is a great pick, Durdin was way too early for my liking

Club suggested it wanted a developing KPD, a midfielder and a small forward

Club selected 2 midfielders

Rest of the off season will be interesting

I wonder if Carroll just had to be taken due to sliding factor and quality overode needs in the Austin matrix.

Genuine questions - and to others:

1. How much junior footy do you watch?
2. And how much of these players have you watched? Carrol & Durdin
3. Or have you just watched edited highlights?
3. or is it based on your perception on our needs?

Absolutely bewildered that we didn't target Ford and Winder given what was unfolding. We need elite skills and burst in front of goal (Ford), and evasiveness, zippy disposal and burst in midfield (Winder).

That's about as much elite talent as you'll ever see in the 50-60 range of a draft. 2020 takes another bizarre twist.

That's as good a top 7 or 8 as you'll see in any draft, and I am also bewildered that we tossed our pick away just to get Saad. The entire off-season process has just been too desperate to secure some targets, with Durdin arguably another example tonight.

We need elite skills and burst in front of goal (Ford), and evasiveness, zippy disposal and burst in midfield (Winder).

Instead we drafted elite skills and burst in front of goal (Durdin), and class, poise, and elite decision/making disposal in midfield (Carroll) having already added evasiveness, zip and burst in the trade period (Saad and Williams). I'm not seeing the issue here.

Couch Recruiters see match vision, actual recruiters get to speak to the players and their coaches. If we passed on Winder and Ford despite having list spots, then presumably there is a calculated reason for it. Either based on the players themselves, or on the overall needs of the list. DFA a mature tall, rookie a ruck or leave the spot open to reassess mid year - does more for our seniors and developing reserves than just chucking in another couple of flashy smalls.

Durdin appears to be a small forward...

May have played some midfield as bottom-ager but moved into a forward role and impressed plenty.

It's all in the name.

Nice story, natural (but misguided) assumption that because Sam is a jet, Henry will become one too.

Still not convinced we need an 18yo ruckman to develop behind the 21yo TDK and 24yo Pitt. We're probably better off with a 28yo journeyman for the next few years.

I was just wondering about how many rookie picks we can take later today?.........Kennedy takes 1 spot, and now that Eddie has moved onto the rookie list isn`t that the limit of 4, or is it more........just wondering about a DFA pick as well.......?
We have 2 spots open.
I think it’s likely we’ll leave at least one of them open. Probably take 1 rookie pick today.

I watch a bucket load of junior footy, for a number reasons this year was almost impossible, but I still watch full games through telecasts/replays

While having seen these kids as 16 year olds, things can change quickly through development or lack thereof

Generally I believe needs are addressed via trading and drafting should be best available (within the 1st round or 2)

The depth of our spine is of major concern

Yeah agree, id be looking at a VFL/SANFL/WAFL ruckman who has shown a bit and is ready to go when needed (our ruckman are always injured)

Cool, thanks for answering. I always wonder how many that get so invested in the draft base it off knowledge or just what names are bandied around the media.

Last comment i agree with - although casboult down back has shown he can cover backline when needed (you just know one or both of Jones and Weitering will do themselves a mischeif this year without any solid backup)

You get that a lot in representative footy, trying to fit talent in the same side, where you see midfielders playing on flanks and pockets

Durdin is a midfielder first and foremost that has the versatility to play forward

Someone like Gulden taken by the Swans will also spend most of his time forward, for similar reasons

Anyone know the rules on academy kids after the draft? Tom Green’s brother is undrafted (GWS) & Newchurch (Adelaide)...

Because they weren't selected I know that both Newchurch and Borlaise have already been signed to adelaide as thier 2 category B rookies.

I would add Marsh to our list, can play key back or forward and has the athleticism to play other roles. Still only 25

Then I would add a developing tall through the rookie draft

We took on Durdin to play a small forward role.
There's no need to give it too much thought.

Now, let's see if we get our backman and if so - We would have ticked off 6 out of 6 'types' we said we'd target.

That would be Kennedy though wouldn`t it?

Kennedy is already a rookie along with Betts.

This is what the club said -
“There are some inside mids and small forwards that we’ve been looking at closely, there’s also some key position depth especially in the back half of the ground."

Club targeted types and attained those types. One to go.

I wonder if Carroll just had to be taken due to sliding factor and quality overode needs in the Austin matrix.

Almost certainly looks to be the case, and I reckon we earmarked Durdin for our first pick very early in the piece and then pinned the ears back once we saw Carroll was available.

I can't believe we passed on Ginnivan and gave up the opportunity for this:
Yep....we were all up late. It's ok Ferris. It'sok

Fisher played predominantly as a mid in the championships IIRC - doubt Durdin would have been in the same boat.

Durdin played as a mid at under 16 level, has always been a mid.

If we had championships this year he would have played as a small forward to fit in the bigger SA midfielders

Got a good feeling about this pick. Let’s hope in 3-5 yrs when all the arm chair experts re-do the draft rankings, he sits in the top 15.

That’s the main aim, pick players who exceed or match draft position taken.
