Huge win, got to bank these early season games. Wins like this away interstate really set up a season.
Absolutely agree on this. The only game we won outside Victoria last year was against the eventual wooden spooners as part of Gather Round. So to see this level of fight and flair from the boys in an interstate game against a more than decent opponent was very heartening for our prospects this season.

A gutsy win, the pressure was great early. Geez Stewart is so good, it’s absurd how much he can control a game. I’m not even sure the commentators notice some of the stuff he does. We know about his intercept marking but he’s so strong, quick & balanced he can break or take a tackle and deliver to a teammate. And he spoils like the all time greats (which he now belongs with I think), like Doull & Enright - hits it to where he wants it to go, sometimes into the path of a teammate. Such a pity he didn’t hang on to that screamer!

I was watching Parfitt pretty closely, I wasn’t as impressed as some. He didn’t contribute much in the first half, got involved a bit more late, he’s always tackling, but still had a bit of that indecision with the ball, some of his 20 were kicks off the ground and a couple of rushed kicks. I dunno, I thought he’d go a little better given a full game with our outs, and he’s probably playing for his career. If he had a bit more zip & could get up and down the ground a bit quicker I’d be more forgiving. While forward and back we are very strong, the midfield is where we probably don’t quite stack up against the best outfits at the moment so I’m looking at it from that perspective.

I liked Mannagh’s competitiveness, & I like the look of Clark too. I think there’s a good future there with he & Bruhn in particular.
15 intercepts and 3 contested marks for Stewart tonight. He reads the play better than anyone in the AFL.

Kolo deserves a shout out for being next highest with 8 and was a brick wall, also making smart decisions with the ball.

Great win. Solid effort across the board..no idea why we played Oisin over Knevett.
Mullin played on Rankin.

Or at least he had a job to take an Adelaide small throughout the game.

None of them took the game by the scuff so it was ok.

Stanley was probably our biggest liability.

Oh I wish Conway was a couple of years older or Goldy decided to come to us for a year.

I'm just going to come out and say it....We can win the premiership.

It's going to take a lot of work, and some careful management of players...but blimey, to look this well drilled and hungry with so many out is just a huge credit to Scott & Co. We just won't go away.

Undermanned, on the road, and they just find a way.

Guthrie, Duncan, Bowes, Bruhn, & Atkins will come back into this midfield mix. Parfitt looks like a viable option again, while Rohan can still offer something forward of the ball.

With most of those names back, we WILL be able to rotate this side to be cherry ripe for when it matters.

The competition is wide open, and we're as good a chance as any.

We're 2-0 with the Hawks and Norf in 2 out the next 3 weeks...and I don't even think we're close to hitting our stride yet. Still so much quality out, with some kinks & chemistry to be built too.

Just so proud of all involved, genuinely couldn't have asked for more tonight.

Was concerned post Bruhn injury, and borderline conceding defeat after Atkins & Duncan went out...but you just can't doubt this club. What a lucky bunch of supporters we are.

Great start.

Booked a holiday again in september this year (due to kids holidays). The last 3 times Ive done this we have made a prelim, a gf and won a premiership.

We are looking pretty good. To win in adelaide without brun, duncan, guthrie and atkins missing from the mids is a huge effort. We now have depth.

And stewart just keeps being tom stewart. Best half back flanker ive ever seen.

Kudos to clark, blicavs, kolo, hawkins.

Mullin was actually very composed, and played his role to aplomb, I thought.

Definitely a future there.

I have no problem with him being on the list, and I think he will be an excellent player in a year or two when he knows the game better. Skills and attributes looks great, its just general game awareness he's struggling with (which is to be expected given his lack of experience). Second guesses a lot of the time and plays with a lack of confidence.

Outstanding win! Feeling like we have a pretty deep squad this year. My only gripe was mannagh - did some good things and will be an astute pick up, but needs to learn we don't need heroes, team goals and unselfishness is more important. You have gryan miers as a mentor

Blicavs is a cheat code.

21 possessions, 8 tackles, 15 hitouts, 4 clearances and 3 inside 50s. Absolute beast.

Stuff the likes of Nick Daicos, Bontempelli, Petracca, Cripps and the like - IMO this bloke is the best player in the league. Can play down back, on the wing, as a lock down midfielder or in the ruck. Hell, he'd probably kick a bag if we needed to have him play down forward for a game, but we don't know as we haven't needed to yet.
Best game ive seen blicavs play in probably 2 years. Was excellent. But he wasnt even in our top 2 players tonight in one of his best ever games. Best player in the league

Agree in part, but genuinely thought he was much more confident as the game went on, and didn't look overawed when they were really coming at the end of the game.

Looks a good replacement for Bews moving forward, IMO.

Great Win. Though Parf was v good Mannagh has a lot to learn but not a bad 1st game. I 2nd Kobes thought that another premiership may be on the cards this year. And Dempsey once again although not hitting the scoreboard played a role and set up a few goals. He's so clean. Mullin wasn't great but there's a few key moments where he got his hands on the ball in pressure situations and got it out into space. Liked that chunky short bloke in Adelaide's forward line Fogarty, he can join our mf lol.

Such a good and important win. Getting games like this in the bank early-season is imperative and they did the job. There were poor patches, yes, but with an undermanned midfield and away, a win like this is golden. The defence stood up beautifully under pressure. Our headband brigade were good but Tom Stewart was obviously immense and BOG in his 150th. Kolo has been very good in 2024 - he's my Dad's whipping boy and he even texted me to say "Jeez, he's going all right." haha.

Hawkins brilliant in the third. Parfitt was given an opportunity and took it. Was a tackling machine in that first quarter and set up our lead. Did well on the outside in the last quarter.

There's a lot to work on and I still have no handle on whether we're okay or good but we're not shit! Do the job for Hawk next week and then get a potentially vulnerable Dogs in Round 4 and we could really set up the season.

My one complaint: Ollie H - afraid. Saw him shirk numerous instances of body contact. Big brother needs to have a word.

All in all, a good win and I love seeing Gryan just cement himself as an elite footballer. He's unreal.

We won the flag when Kolo was on song, and he has been excellent the past two games.

Bring a few other players back in the team, and you just never never know... I thought we would be mid-table specialists, but the back line and forward line is very good tbh.

What oppo club supporters who say 'oh just middling and need to do a proper rebuild', forget, is that showing this consistent intent no matter where we are in our list build, is what continually attracts elite players to our club.

Hawks lose this weekend, Pies go down the drain, and we're in the Finals again...wonder what a guy like Smith, or Macrae, or say a young Will Phillips, or even Harley Reid at West Coast, think about that?

That's the thing that always gets overlooked - our ability to attract players and continually keep turning over our list, hinges on the ability to show that we're a club who will always aim to compete. Old or young, we don't things do conventionally, and we are always in the conversation. Oppo players (again old or young) who think about coming here, they know this. It's what makes us such a destination club.

Will the return of some midfielders push Clark out early in the season?
I don't think so and certainly hope not.

V interesting seeing the highlights reel how many involvements Brad Close had. Wonder if he might be a bit of an underrated barometer on our team. Didn't have a great year last year...

That kick from Dangerfield from the wing to setup Hawk on the goal-line half way through the third - that was absolutely elite. That's a 75m drop punt off a few steps, casting it over all the defenders to Hawkins. I didn't get to watch the game but I'm guessing that didn't get the kudos it probably deserved.

Also Tom Stewart... Ten intercepts. That's crazy stuff. What a champion he is.
