Autopsy Cats lose their way in 18 points loss to Saints

First 1/2 was great.
Next 1/2 we stopped dead in our tracks and thought it was over.

Gave up 13 goal turnaround

3.6 to 16.11 is what they scored - and yes it was still the same teams out there in the second 1/2

The list of poor players is too long so the decent ones were
Stanley, Bowes, Humphries - they went all game long

The rest can get in the bin after that.

Was a horrible effort after such a good effort last week

Saints
Port
Gold Coast
Doggies

All team we have given up 4+ goal turnarounds to and got belted by.

The whole team just didnt make the same effort and committment after 1/2 time and if you give anyone a sniff and let them run ahead of the ball you are in trouble and we did exactly that

No real injuries to speak of.

Just a very poor 1/2 of unGeelong like footy.

Sure we are still in contention in a very open season but efforts like that are telling

GO Catters

They treated us with scorn from half time, and we were like Swiss cheese as they streamed towards goal.

We coughed up a significant number of uncontested marks, got smashed around the ball, were consistently outnumbered and stood miles off our opponents.

As a result they rattled on a 10 goal turn around while we stood and watched.

Was an insipid display after half time.

Outplayed tonight. Saints very good and we looked tired after half time. Ah well-probs fair enough -we aren’t really a top 2 team even in this whacko year. Saints probably would have beaten plenty of sides tonight but it’s still a disappointing loss.

Pretty dismal display from our "leaders" after half time (except Danger and Stewart).

Cameron has his head elsewhere it seems.

Good stuff from the kids, particularly in the first half.

Ollie Henry will cop flak a bit unfairly.

We'll still make top 4 if results go the way they should, but we'd need to kick a mammoth amount to overcome the percentage gap (and have Port and GWs lose to Bulldogs and Freo respectively).

Likely a trip to Sydney in week 1.
GWS already beat Freo

Offended at being considered too predictable by Geelong fans, the Cats bucked expectations of a lethargic post-Perth win with a commanding opening half against the Saints. Not satisfied with just this, they sought to show in the second half that they could actually make a much bigger meal of the game than most would have ever speculated. It is easy to lose a game many expect you to. It is an art to do that while still monumentally pissing everyone off.

Need to have a serious conversation about Jeremy Cameron because wtf was that.

New nickname = Junk Time Jezza

Game of two halves. At HT was almost ready to praise Stanley, but his age showing a half against a good ruck is all we can expect.

Stewart as centre bounce sweeper has started to stabilise the midfield. It is what it is, it won't get any better from here out.

Think the biggest inhibitor for a flag is looking at being the forward line. We don't get enough from Close, Neale, Rohan or Henry. And that means Stengle and Cameron are needed to dominate and both were held quite well tonight.

Starting to change my view on Henry. He gives us little defensively but atm is also giving us little offensively and gets towelled by his opponent. Do not think he and Rohan can't both coexist in the finals.

Cataholic I don't doubt your passion, and I get you're a fan that can't see us live and the view from the Ch7 is what you go off but I'll never accuse a Cats team of not trying, they may not play well all the time, they may not win, they may even shit the bed. But the last 40 years of footy has built far too many credits to accuse a Cats side of not trying. That's what I disagreed with.

Just couldn't win a contest forward of centre, and compounded it by playing some extremely dumb footy - refusal to hold on to the ball in the second half was particularly galling. The danger always lay in their outside speed and we tried to match them with end-to-end stuff which just didn't work. Think the Saints wayward kicking flattered us a bit in the first half too.

Positive is that it was Bowes' best game for the club, and that we lost like this to the Saints at Marvel in 2022. Beyond that - Scotty might need to spin the magnets again.

We will make top 4 but we threw away a first G final vs port or gws and likely 2 finals in vic.
Will have to win it the hard way.
To make that mistake in a bradbury year makes my blood boil.

All we needed was 1 more qtr and we shut thwm out. Our stoppages defense was good eafly fhen it disappeared after half time.

Dempsey and mannagh very good again but on the whole we had too many passengers tonight.
Team has it in them to win 3 finals but needs a rocket.

Out played and out coached in the 2nd half
Pretty simple.
But many will blame a certain few
yeah, Ross Lyon is a piece of shit human, but a decent coach when he needs to be. Not good enough to win a flag but good enough to be a threat.

Cats had nothing to stop the slide in Q3

Top 4 is a little optimistic. We have to add some serious % to get there

No thanks to collingwood we are guaranteed 4th if we beat wce. But we cant finish 2nd anymore.

How's the below for a melt?

Cameron = non factor again. The one game he is on in every five he is incredible. Outside of that? Happens too often. Classic stat pad job at the end. No impact.

Ollie Henry = I am a fan but worst game he's played for the club. Needs a spell and should have played himself out of the team. Too often not chasing and running under everything. When he's not running every pass, he's getting outmarked and showing no ability to bring it to ground.

Neale = nonchalant city.

Blicavs = been a great player but he's el dente. Cooked.

Holmes = someone please insert some football IQ into his brain. So wasteful by foot and just doesn't think when he's using it.

Knevitt 7 disposals 0 tackles
Mullin 9 disposals at 44%
Blitz 10 disposals 0 tackles
Close 9 and 1 tackle no goals
Rohan 5 and 0 tackles
Both Henry’s ****ing deplorable

We lost this at the selection table.

Our bottom 6-10 are simply uncompetitive.

I agree with that.
The real trouble in the 3rd quarter was us not defending them out of stoppage but we made it worse but not slowing the game down for 2-3 mins when we needed to. Which is unlike us normally we are good at that.
