Watching the replay just realized how many tackles we would have nailed in previous weeks were missed.
Often resulting in Melbourne goals.

Snap. The first quarter wasn't as bad as i thought, except SDK standing flat footed allowing an easy get to goal (Stewart glares) Cuthries moody 50m, a poor error from Close, one free Hawk gave, Cameron OOF, and Stanley was good, except for getting in the way at a few contested balls. Dempsey is proving a good first quarter starter. Zuthrie is a star, just get out of his way for marks.

It went a bit haywire from there, slipped tackles, but nothing that can't be corrected.

As an aside, I wish Bruhn and Clark would flip a coin for the blue boots.

16:40 mark 4th quarter on time clock happens in next passage of play

Takes pack mark and lands on foot of other player. Looks eversion to me which is the syndesmosis style injury unfortunately but id love more than ever to be wrong.

GO Catters

Bit over the hard on for Max Gawn tbh. He was expected to beat Stanley and he did. Should have had an obvous free paid against him in the last but not even considered because hes Max Gawn

Gets umpired differently to every other ruckman. He's bloody good already without that added assistance.

I can't understand why we kept offering Melbourne territory coming out of their backline when they were using it so well to break down our press and created shots on goal,we were giving them 30 metres then not standing the mark or manning the next Melbourne player in the chain, before you knew it they were out free and looking to spot up a target inside their own forward 50.We never addressed it all night.

Has been a bit of a theme this year. Clearly it's tactical, designed to set us up to transition off half back after creating the turnover. Maybe with Rohan's manic defensive pressure returning we'll see that change?

Disagree.
Both were more than handy up forward, but were critical in defence.
Benny kicked 33 goals in 2001, equal top, while being captain, not bad at CHF in a crap team.'
In 2004, his final season, 39 goals.
I should probably add - 2004 is the only year that I thought he actually looked comfortable and settled up forward.

Before that, he could still certainly play, but he didn't have much "foward craft" as such - he relied a bit too much on the big mark and winning contests. It seemed to click in 2004... could have done with him in the 2005 SF.

Going on some of the comments on here about how we should be shorter odds, rest some players and suggest The D wouldn't kick enough goals to beat our defence we kind of needed to have our hubris reduced.

Just a scrappy awful game where we were outcoached and outplayed. A lot of down games for our key players. They set up brilliantly against us.

Agree to a certain extent yet we had enough chains forward to win this.
Apart from the Cameron and Close misses there were 2-3 other entries where we had the overlap and unusually didn't execute - we also had some non typical moments in defence that went pear shaped.
Our one wood looks like rapid ball movement off turnover this season but you need to execute properly ( which we have been doing) and not get burnt the other way.
Lick our wounds and come out firing on Friday night :thumbsu:

Worst one for me was one stage in 3rd or 4th quarter where a Melbourne player was running down the wing while 4 or 5 Geelong players were in front of him running hard back to goal. Not one player came at the ball carrier.

I know that's generally multiple computations for these things, but feels like the votes may have been:

Coach 1:
5. Guthrie
4. Holmes
3. Gawn/May
2. Pickett
1. Petty

Coach 2.
5. Lever
4. Holmes
3. Gawn/May
2. Pickett
1. Guthrie

I'm leaning towards Coach 1 being Scott as he did specifically mention Petty in his press conference, and the importance of those Demons players ahead of the ball & roles they played on Saturday night

100% I don’t think he thought Lever or May were special, we just kicked it to them, two moments in the last where we lobbed it over the head of a free cats player and it landed in the hands of Lever and May. I’m with him on Gawn, Pickett and Petty
