Well, technically we're still outperforming my preseason expectations. So, um..

Yikes, mine too. 😢

He had 16 disposals, 7 marks and 3 goals.

Getting the old dangerfield marking here. If he aint our best player he has gone missing.
2 junk time goals and played high for most of the game.

Absolutely unsighted and the reason relying on stats is a fool's errand.

Give me the Jezza that at 3/4 time says "just give me the ball and I'll win the game."

Pretty dismal display from our "leaders" after half time (except Danger and Stewart).

Cameron has his head elsewhere it seems.

Good stuff from the kids, particularly in the first half.

Ollie Henry will cop flak a bit unfairly.

We'll still make top 4 if results go the way they should, but we'd need to kick a mammoth amount to overcome the percentage gap (and have Port and GWs lose to Freo and Bulldogs respectively).

Likely a trip to Sydney in week 1.

Who are the leaders bar Danger and Stewart?

I didn't even think either of them were all that influential in the 2nd half, with all due respect to them.

Those two shoulder the bulk of demonstrable onfield/off field leadership (particulary in Cam Guthrie/Tom Hawkins absence and Mitch Duncan's reduced onfield role).

Like others I have compared Jeremy Cameron's onfield output with late-career Stevie J or yore; both players could win you a game but neither could entirely be counted on to be a net positive week-in, week-out; not late in their careers anyway.
That's what you need from your leaders.

Zac Guthrie is on the verge of attaining that type of cohesive onfield direction; I have no doubt as to Max Holmes' potency as a player but his consistency of method is not quite leadership material for mine, not quite yet.

Jack Henry deplorable? Are you serious?
He did nothing the entire second half.

Out of position covering no one and nothing constantly and when he was there had minimal impact, 6 goals conceded in the second half in contest he was directly involved in.

The ball was camped in our backline in the second half. Jack Henry had 2 disposals 0 marks and 1 ****ing tackle.

Now come back and tell me how his objective uselessness is somehow not true because you “rate” him.

Even if you discount those (you dont as percentage could still matter big time) his stats arent consistent with going missing.
We are allowed to disagree and on this we do. Stats without context don't tell the full story. Half of his games this season he's had 15+... How many of them occured in damaging areas? How many close to goal? There was a four week stretch where he was averaging 18/19 touches and barely a goal a game because he was roaming up the ground and racking up cheap kicks with zero hurt factor.

He needs to be playing deep and hitting the scoreboard when the game is hot. He was amazing against Adelaide and he deserves full kudos for that, but the gap between his best and worst is just simply too high and it has been for a long time. Looks like many posters here are finally catching on to this.

The last line is consistent with player must be best on ground otherwise gone missing mentality that danger copped for years from this board.

Ps. After 3qtr time he kicked two goals in a side that couldnt get it passed the middle. What more do you want?

The leaders should be Cameron, Rohan, Blicavs, Stanley (barely) and some up and comers like Miers and Zuthrie - as well as Danger and Stewart.

They've all been around the traps long enough to know what to do.

Thats a bit over the top.

We are still primed to make top 4. We aint out of contention. Plenty of flag teams have lost to a bottom 8 side 2 weeks out of finals. Hawthorn did it a couple of times.

1980 final round Rich lost badly to lowly Sth Melb , cost them top spot ( Cats finished top ) and a direct entry into a 2nd semi , then the Tigers came out and flogged everyone in the finals

Losing tonight is not the end of the world - the good thing about it , it will fine tune/shake up team selections for the finals

We wont make up 4 % and play port it will be syd.
You dont know that. Either port or gws could lose by 5 goals killing their percentage. Geelong is playing a bottom 4 side from interstate in the final round at geelong. The eagles simply might not show up. Would not be surprised if we won by 90 points.

That ship sailed at HT tonight.

Yep hes done as is hawk.
Oh come on. He was coming off concussion. How did cameron and stewart go coming off concussion? Our return to form this year coincided with a string of really good rohan games. Just 6 weeks ago. Better then anything henry has played this year. And at worst rohan was no worse then ollie henry was tonight. In my view he was noticably better.

A couple of weeks ago you wrote off stanley and he played a blinder last week. Was far from our worst tonight too.

This is the truth of it. We had 5 players under 20 games in the starting 22. Stkilda had 0.

We also had Blicavs, Danger, Duncan and Stanley all over 33 and miles past their best. Stkilda have nobody over 31.

By all rights we should be bottom 4 this year. Our age demographic is all wrong. But we're still in with a shot which is incredible.
Just goes to show how decent our youth are.

If they were terrible, our senior players wouldn't have dragged the team to top 4.
