I'm not saying they shouldn't. I'm saying they should. And they might be annoyed if we played a tribute game with melbourne (a club that he spent less years at then Port).

Fair enough. I miss read your post.

I just hope we do pay tribute to him some how and if that means we invite port to be one part if it, that doesn't matter.

Don't agree on the players medal idea.

But what about starting a medal for the winning coach of showdowns? Afterall his impact on both clubs was more on the coaching side of things.

I feel for Dean Bailey's family and friends but I find it both a bit silly and sheepishly endearing that people always are ready to dive in and name something in the deceased honour whenever there is a loss in the football community.

At the end of the day Bailey was a crow for 1 full season. He was a great guy and his death is sad and tragic but his name is not an 'Adelaide Football Club' name and it would be disingenuous to name an award after him.

Things like this should be based on merit not just based on the fact someone died. If you're going to name something after him I imagine it would be a 'player development' coaching award or something relevant like that. Not the Showdown award and likely not any other AFC award.

Agree with this.

You have piqued my interest. Still not quite comfortable but definitely interested in the concept being explored down the track.

Out of curiosity - what is Dean's 'showdown record'?

Wins - 8 (6 Port, 2 Adelaide)
Losses - 8 (7 Port, 1 Adelaide)

I think maybe the best thing to do, would be to get the 4 clubs he was involved with (Ess, Port, Melb and Adel) to annualy host a benefit in his name, auctioning off a wide range of sporting memrobilia and other stuff, with all proceeds going towards a cancer charity or research in the field that could prevent others from dying of the same cancer (ir not breast cancer)

I know its a bit soon but encourage as many people going to the Showdown to shave their heads and in addition make a gold coin donation to a cancer charity. eg Worlds Greatest Shave (Lukemia Foundation).

i've heard the idea of having the dean bailey cup between melbourne and adelaide already too. personally, don't mind that idea

Firstly with all due respect to Bailey and what is final messages were to the Club - ie the show must go on.

I think that would be a positively received by both Clubs and also attraction for what would have otherwise have been a boring lackluster home game.

The Showdown medal doesn't really need a name, but even if it did, surely it'd make more sense to draw on one of the many Crows/Power on field champions. Bickley/Tredrea, Ricciuto/Wanganeen, McLeod/Cornes. Dean Bailey was a good bloke, and went terribly, but it seems like naming the Showdown medal after him would just be piggybacking off his name when he contributed far more to other clubs (like Melbourne and Essendon.)

Ricciuto/Carr Medal :D
