Changes for Hawthorn

Yeah we should pick players based on stats not performance. What did he actually do with those 16 possessions again?

Well of our 9 goals he set up 2 or had a large hand in them. He wasn’t our best, but at the same time was far from being our worse.

You need to watch the game again with blinkers off.

and maybe you need to understand that for a forward to get from point a to point b takes time. You cant bring in a talented 19 year old forward and expect them to immediately be at point b.

Walker didnt play well, but go back and look at half a dozen of Tippett's games from last year and you tell me the difference ??? Walker needs AFL time invested into him not being stuck in the SANFL, again long term planning not just worrying about the next five minutes without any eye to the future.

We are now paying dividends for the experience that Tipp gained last year. we persisted with him despite him playing a few stinkers and now we are reaping the rewards. Any forward needs some time invested into him you just need the club to understand that and not just throw a young talented developing forward out of the side just because he didnt play well.

If we were playing anyone else but Hawthorn, I would have

OUT: Burton (inj)
IN: Griffin

Sellar to play at CHB. I really like him. He has improved in intensity and attack at the contest by 100%. However, I don't believe long term he will be a full time ruckman. Unfortunately, against Hawthorn, Buddy would kill him with his mobility. So this week.

Out: Burton (inj)
IN: Trent H.

If Hentschel fit:

OUT: Burton (inj), Shirley
IN: Hentschel, Mackay

If Hentschel not fit:

IN: Davis, Mackay

If Mackay is not fit, then I dunno maybe Petrenko or Armstrong. Our depth looking pretty shoddy right about now as well as the injury list growing rapidly.

I was also thinking about Hentschel this morning. Without Bock we need him.

We need another tall in defence this week to double team Buddy (one in front in the space) as we have no single defender anywhere near good enough. Buddy isn't kicking a heap of goals but is getting plenty of scoring shots and you can bet he will kick 7 straight against us:mad:

Davis and Young not quite ready for this huge task.

Stevens on Franklin, Hentschel in the hole using his excellent footy brain to cover the lack of pace.

If he isn't available, maybe we have to punt on untried youth or Griffin comes in as suggested...both options leave us struggling. Or maybe Otten stands in the hole?

Mackay will also come in if fit.

Outs will be Douglas and someone else who could be unlucky (Burton injured?, Walker perhaps, Otten for a rest?)

Hurry up and get well soon Mackay, Bocky, Danger and Big Bad Brad...we miss you all!

CHANGES : Perhaps from a rolling zone that when not working go back to basics and play good old fashioned contested ball one on one !!!!
The blinkers on Knights when any where near 60 metres . Needs to look as twice players in better position at crucial stages eg Vince all alone 30 metres out and tried to blaze resulted in point and turnover and score at the other end.
Why do we have lead up forwards that we dont use. I would certainly be pissed off it continaully get meterage and position on opponent only for the midfield to kick sideways !!! Why !!!
Changes in the ruck structure. When Tippett came in as the second ruck we were outmumbered at the fall of the ball and subsequently struggled to get the pill out.
Thank christ for Johncock, put Maxwell on his arse and worked tirelessly all nite only to see the ball rebounded from Maxwell, Didak or whoever free on the other side of the oval. Simply the zone looked like Massie on Franklin !

This is bigfooty right? I think I'm lost.

No-one is calling for Symes' head this week??? But he was last in, shouldn't he be first out???

Or did people actually watch his game this week?

Throw Douglas to the wolves (with 16 possessions and 5 marks) but hey, let's keep Walker! Typical!
Its called structure!

With Bock and Burton out we are lacking a forward because Stevens has to go back to cover the loss of Bock.

Walker is Burton's replacment despite doing his very best Luke Jericho impersonation last night!

If Burton misses, as it appears likely then we need a forward and the best one we have at the moment is Walker.

Douglas was pretty average last night. The TV coverage makes him look better than he was. His decision making and indecisivness, running to the wrong spots, leaving his pooinent at the wrong time etc... Mackay would certainly be an upgrade.

Fact is that we are now light on forwards and in any other game I would be dropping Walker before he could blink, he might just find himself in a very lucky position because there is no one else to play the role vacated by Burton.

For mine, these should be the changes:

OUT: Burton, Douglas
IN: Mackay, Griffin or Davis.

If Griffin comes in, Sellar can play CHB and allow Stevens to play the utility role. If Davis comes in, Stevens to CHB and Davis as a utility.

One thing that we were missing last night was the flexibility that Stevens gives us. When Collingwood got the run on in the 3rd quarter we would likely swing Stevens from the forward line to defence to slow down their momentum. Last night, we didn't have that swingman, to stem the tide and it went a great way to allowing Coollingwood to take control of the match.

I think we need to have that utility against Hawks with Roughead and Franklin looming. Thats why there must be 2 changes with Mackay and a tall coming in and its also the reason why Walker should go out and buy a lottery ticket because he just might have been kissed by a fairy on the proverbial.....TWICE!

If Bock doesn't return, we could consider Sellar at CHB & recall Griffin as the 2nd ruckman, which allows us to start Stevens forward/spare swingman needed to cover Buddy/Roughie.

I would like to see Griffin come in, I think he deserves a chance to have another crack at AFL this season.

Actually, Douglas was brought in last. They ruled Bock out and brought Symes in before Mackay was ruled out, because Mackay actually made it out to the ground at training, whereas Bock didn't.

Out: Burton (inj)
In: Mackay

The ony other possible change that i would consider may be Davis in for Douglas.

As for the rucks, i thought Sellar was ok for the time he was on.
I thought we suffered more because Wood was allowed to run forward and took some good marks - IMO bringing in Griffin would not solve the type of deficiencies we have in our ruckmen.

Symes is only the whipping boy when Douglas doesn't play.

Thats just crap. No one was calling for Symes head because he is whipping boy. We had better players and players required for our structure coming in and someone had to go. The coach thought so too thats why he was dropped.

Last night was Symes best game for the year. Dont delude yourself that he has been playing like that all year.

There's a vocal minority who regularly call for Symes to be dropped regardless of how well he's played. Yes last night was one of his best performances, but it wasn't his only good performance for the year. Usually there's a couple of posters who will get stuck in even when he's played well. This week seems to be the exception. He's not a fashionable player.

When Symes plays well we lose.

Malthouse made a comment in his post match press conference when he was talking about how measuring stats in today's football is different to what it used to be (ie 25 possessions used to = a good game) and he said that it doesn't matter as much how many touches a team has, it's more a matter of who gets them. He inferred that there are some players you need to stop getting the ball and some players you let get the ball.

Symes had a good game yes. But Collingwood spent 0.00% of their time trying to prevent him getting it. Symes played fine but we shouldn't overrate his game just because Collingwood were content for him to have a good game.

Symes seemed to have taken Mckay's role if i'm not mistaken? Got a lot of the pill as he usually did, but his forward 50 entries are pretty terrible, cant kick to a lead so bombs it up high and "shallow". 30 touches or whatever doesn't mean he played that well. I rate Reilly's game better. Hes better off handballing and letting our better ball users dispose of it by foot. He is a good depth player, but nothing more.

Also it seems our better ball users, Van Berlo, Goodwin, Thompson have got a bit handball happy. People around me were saying how good Goody was playing but he barely kicked it in comparison to how much he handballed it. Saying that i think he will undeservedly win the B and F.

Yeah Jenny smacks of double standards

Fact though really both need to go as neither completed the tasks that were assigned them .......Dougy more often than not was just a linkman and theyre a dime a dozen

Out: Walker, Douglas, and Burton

In: Mackay, plus a forwrd based on SANFL form over the weekend

Craigy said he thought Sloane may get a game b4 years end ........could that be next week
