Changes for Richmond game

It's probably been suggested but I'm really set on the idea of resting the Dazzler for the next two games. Let's face it, of the teams in the competition - the Angus Graham/ Tyrone Vickery and Sam Jacobs/ Robbie Warnock combinatons are by far the least threatening.

Darren is an extremely important player in our side, given our next available ruckmen. I reckon we give Josh or Cam with Leroy a chance - surely they can't be monstered by those combinations.

A fit and rejuvinated Darren could be a real bonus.

Secondly, its funny how people think Tarkyn rushes his disposal. I've always found whenever takes a mark, he hesitates for ages. This used to not be such a bad thing, but now all it does is allow team to flood back and cause us problems. He will always run back on his mark, look around for ages (as if people don't make options for him like they do everyone else), wait for the other team to get numbers back, and then do a cheap 20 meter kick. It's why I call him T-t-t-tarkyn.

I'm trying to think like MM here:

In: Buckley, Medhurst

Out: Shaw (injured/rest), Thomas (injured/rest)

Remember, Shaw had work done on his lower back and is wearing a brace. A week off could freshen him up. Dale received a heavy hit to the ribs, so like Shaw, he may need a week to rest up.

Buckley comes in as a straight swap for Shaw. Can play half back, run through mid, and pinch up forward.

Medhurst comes in and plays Leon's role as a defensive goal sneak, while Leon finally gets a run full time as mid for a week playing Thomas' role.

In terms of who I want in and out?

In: Maxwell, Medhurst, Dick, Rounds
Out: Lockyer, Macaffer, Blair (rest, give Rounds a crack), Toovey (Goldsack has him covered with Maxy back)

Rest Shaw for Maxwell

But as part of long term planning we should rest Didak otherwise he will get two weeks or more for belting Jake King. Bring in either Dick or Medhurst or Rounds maybe even Thomas

Dids does need a one week spell better voluntary rather than through the MRP

In: Maxwell, Medhurst
Out:Shaw, Macaffer

Macaffer is not in our best 22 and i dont expect him to play in the finals.

Ins: Dick, Maxwell, Rounds
Out: Jolly (rest), Shaw (back problem/rest), Lockyer (rest)

We need to try Dick out before the finals to see if his shoulder is up to a full game or not. Maxwell should return, time to take the cautious ropes off and release him.
Rounds just deserves a game.

Jolly needs a rest at some point, and this week or next week are the best options. Shaw struggled through the 2nd half on Saturday, and should be rested more so because of the ongoing back complaint he has.
Lockyer also should be rested, although he may find it hard to get back into the team if he goes out, so I can't see this happening.

Why don't we drop Johnson, Leigh Brown and Macaffer for Medhurst?

While we're at it lets drop Swan, Jolly, Didak and Pendles and only bring Medhurst in to replace all 4 and he can Captain the team from the centre bounce... BY HIMSELF!

Seriously though... MaCaffer played well on Saturday and kicked 3 goals... something Medhurst hasn't done in the seniors for nearly 2 years I think.

Who is going to Ruck ?
Lol, forgot Fraser as the last in for a tall, maybe Presti to go out also.

I think this week or next week is the time to give Josh his 200th and quite possibly last game in black and white, before we have to get "deadly serious" about picking our best 22-25 for the finals series.

Josh deserves to play his 200th at Collingwood, but let's face it, he will be well below AFL standard when we play him, so we have to "time it right".

Re Tarks being slow to move the ball on, agreed at times he seems to be looking for the perfect option which invariably is harder to find the more time elapses and numbers get back etc.

The flip side of this, i'm pretty happy for Tarks to have the ball anywhere inside 50 metres out. He has kicked some very important goals in the last few week..Melbourne and Port come to mind

In the spirit of if it ain't broke don't fix it (or flirt with form):

In: Maxwell (if fit) - Out: Shaw (let Maxy play back into form & Heath rest his weary back)
OR
In: (If Maxey not fit) Fraser - Out: Shaw (Let Caffa take half back and Frase gets his 200 sharing at HF/2nd ruck with Leigh Brown).

Jolly gets a break .... in October. But 2 up with him against Tiges may help him to reduce a bit of energy. Presti, with either a Goldsack or Maxy chop should help block some Riewoldt magic.

No Change

agreed - let's not get cocky and flirt with form. Even against Richmond.
Knowing MM he'll probably debut Rounds in the Geelong game anyway. He likes throwing the kids into the fire.

no need to rest Jolly either - he's like Lleyton Hewitt in that the more he plays the better he gets

Resting players should only apply to those within their first 3 years of senior AFL football and players with niggles. To say we need to rest players like Jolly, Presti, Swan doesn't wash, they're seasoned players, their bodies are hardened and they've been in the game long enough to know how to manage themselves. Resting should apply to those (like Davis) who are carrying minor complaints that need a bit of R&R. Conversely, young players, whose bodies aren't as resilient to the rigors of AFL football (Beams, Sidebottom, Blair etc) should also get a rest when they're needed.

Following on from that, horses for courses should always apply and with that, my only question mark lies with our defense. Other than Reiwoldt, do the Tigers actually have a big forward to worry about? We could conceivably go in with Maxwell, Goldsack, Reid and Presti in the back half. Is it too top heavy for their forward line?

I'm thinking Shaw is needing to relieve that back of his, which adds further to the quandary.

In: Maxwell
Out: Shaw

Which may mean that one of Wellingham, Macaffer or Daisy might have to float back to join Johnno, Harry and Toovey as running rebound defenders. Which may mean a small or mid-sized player needs to come in to fill that rotation - and from what I read, Medders had a bit of a run through the midfield in the VFL last week. So you could possibly see Medhurst called in for someone like Lockyer or even Caff.

Perfect week to bring Medders back in simply due to the fact that he always is pretty solid for us against Richmond:

Round 20, 2009 (17d, 1g)
Round -3, 2008 (24d, 3g)
Round 19, 2007 (10d, 3g)

No idea who goes out though... everyone is playing good footy at the moment.
