Opinion Changes for Round 2 vs The Blues

Saying right now, we will not, and cannot, win a flag with all of Roarke Smith, Laith, Cordy, Scott, Gardner and Hannan in the side. There is more than enough talent on the list to replace these guys in the 22. Sometimes almost seems as though Bevo doesn’t want to see the best 22 altogether. A best team on paper looks absolutely unbeatable, but we never put anything close to it on the park. Extremely frustrating.

Feel like it is also worth pointing out it is nothing against those named players. They don’t pick the side and they try their best every week, but gosh we can’t carry all of them to be a top side and that’s just the reality

Can you let us all know what the weather forecast is for yesterday?

Teams were announced over half an hour ago

Ive been too busy to keep up, only saw it on the news a short while ago

Seriously Bevo and his VFL bottom 26 players. How did Scott get given a game. Just means our bottom 6 gets even worse. Give kids ago instead of bloody role players who are late 20’s who struggle to get the pill and would not get a game for the Roos.. Give West a decent run. By all reports he was one of the best in the practice match.

Cordy over Schache mmm, Cordy moves slower than Mick Nolan and cannot get to a contest. Maybe Schache should get 3 possessions so he does not stuff up as much

thank god JUH is selected. If not my membership card would be in the microwave.
Is that the pretend membership card, or the one on your phone..it could be an expensive meltdown!

So you get punished for one bad game ?

They aren’t the first and won’t be the last.

Players can’t play knowing one bad game and they are dropped

Hannan and Weightman combined for half a tackle speaks volumes to mindset. Dropping them would have been preferable and a bigger statement
I agree that there are a number of lucky players from last week, mainly our forwards apart from Naughton who was fantastic. But VDM, Weightman, Hannan, Cordy and even Libba can count themselves very lucky. None of them played well but you can’t drop everyone and you have to have valid replacements. Surprised at least one of them wasn’t dropped as well though to give West or another younger player a crack.

Let’s hope they turn it around this week or else there may be more omissions again for Round 3.

Also in regards to Williams, it wasn’t just one bad game, although his form last season was good, his GF was very poor in addition to last week and somebody had to make way for Duryea. 6 turnovers leading directly to opposition goals. Couldn’t look past that I think. Hopefully he gets his form back and he is back in the team quickly.

Yeah sweet Scott, another average medium role player to add to the rotation. We don’t have enough of them in the side. Would hateeeee to play an actual ruck in that position. It’s beyond a ****ing joke to be completely honest.

Sweet would offer more than Cordy both forward & ruck, Schache would offer more than Cordy forward, ruck & probably defence.

Jamarra is now second tall whereas we could easily play him as 3rd and give him more of a chance to offer us something

Our bottom 6 is genuinely bottom 4 standard - I’m so over it.

Anyway Jamarra woo

Understand the outs but my concern is we start to look a bit same-same with R.Smith, Duryea, and Scott in the team. Slow, small left footers. Add an out-of-form Hunter into the equation, a Libba on the decline, Crozier (taller) and Richards (faster) and we start to look incredibly one-dimensional.

Oh to have the likes of Sweet, Khamis, Parker and Bedendo knocking on the door....

We have a clubhouse leader…

100% spot on. this bottom 6 is worse than Roos and Crows by a big margin

Sometimes there are games that have to get you dropped regardless just to maintain the integrity in team selection and so everyone knows what is not acceptable. Remember the standard you walk past or overlook is the standard you accept and we can’t accept what Williams dished up last Thursday. It was totally and utterly unacceptable.

So hopefully he does find form soon and get back in the team because he is so much better than what he showed both last week and in the GF. But I am glad to welcome back Taylor Duryea, I’m not sure why he wasn’t playing last week but he was missed and I always feel better with him in the backline.

Good to see JUH given a chance and we need to start getting games into him. Very sad to hear Baz is injured, we will definitely miss him no doubt.

A few players lucky to survive last weeks game because Williams and Schache weren’t alone, hopefully they can all get their heads in the game from the first bounce this time and tidy up the unforced errors.

Yeah that's what you have to do; if it was just a mediocre game that Williams played then you'd be disappointed for him making way for Duryea. But he played as shit as you'd ever see a defender play, any defender that causes 6 turnovers for 6 goals needs to make way and forfeits all credits in the bank.

I can guarantee that people would be calling for Roarke Smith's head if he gave away a single goal via a direct turnover but no because people like Williams they want to give him another chance despite coughing up 6 goals.

We lost by four goals.

A little bit worried about Baz. Groin soreness and now hip soreness has kept him out of a couple of games in a month. I hope he hasn’t overdone it during the pre-season.

I guess Libba will be back in the guys and Scott to take the HFF position.

VDM is a definite concern for me. He’s getting worse with every game he plays. I really don’t know what he offers as a small forward. The rare moments he does something good, he immediately undoes it one way or another.

I really like the lad and he started off like a coiled spring. I hope he can improve soon because he’s not good enough right now.

Wouldn't be so sure about Cordy going back. Think he'll play up forward and 2nd ruck.

Backs: Keath, Gards, Duryea, Croz, Daniel, Dale, Richards
Mids: English, Bont, Macrae, Hunter, Dunks, Roarke, Libba, Treloar
Fwds: Naughton, Cordy, JUH, VDM, Weightman, Hannan, Scott

Certainly a better structure than last week, despite being less talented IMO.

Surely he needs to go back to play on their third tall (Curnow). The other guys don't have the height or strength for it.

Yeah I feel a similar way. He's fast and aggressive but you just don't want the ball in his hands because he just hurts us. If he doesn't lift then I'd be looking at bringing in Jones to play the high half forward role.

I wouldn't mind him getting a run on the wing with Smith out and Hunter out of form.

I'm more concerned that we don't have an obvious replacement for that role which should be pretty easy to find

I've never understood Beveridge/s selections anytime excepting during lead up to and during the 2016 finals series.
Even during the 2016 season Home and Away he was all over the shop but finally settled the team and played everyone in the roles you would expect. Only in the GF did he move Cordy into the Forward line.

Since then its consistently nonsense, week in, week out. Beveridge has categorically never adapted to the no third man up in the ruck rule change. Last year when we played both a fit Martin and English we looked unbeatable. When Martin got injured - there was not one occasion were we played both Sweet and English last year.

On last weeks performance, I would sooner drop Weightman, Van De Mere or Cordy before I would omit Williams. Fact is none of those 3 have shown anything during the practice matches and all three of them have very limited tricks in their bag when out of form. Fact is both Weightman and VDM are young quality kids who need to be dropped to work on their weaknesses and consistency.

Where as Williams is a quality AFL unit who has a-grade tricks but has been asked to do too much for too long against opponents much bigger than himself. Indeed, Williams should have huge credits in the bank because he the biggest reason Bevo's half cocked backline has been semi-functional for the last few years. I would have more faith in throwing Williams up forward to make an impact than any of Wieghtman, VDM, Cordy, Sache or UH

And what the hell is JJ doing out of this side - he looked like a genuine dangerous forward in the last practice match

My Team:

Richards, Keath Gardner
Dale, Williams, Duryea
R.Smith, Liber, Hunter
Treloar, Naughton, JJ
Hannan, English U-Hagan

Sweet
Bontempelli
Macrae

Dunkley
Daniel
Crozier
Arthur Jones

OUT: Weighman, VDM, Sache, Cordy, Smith-Injured
IN: Sweet, Duryea, JJ, U-Hagan, Arthur Jones
