Who gets omitted from the midfield after a game like that!?

Obviously Yeo and Shuey make us a better team, but these kids are playing for their lives atm

They have no such credits in the bank and are playing out of their skin. Match committee, take note

Yeo will need to be buying into the gameplan and team first attitude , he has looked very selfish at times in the pre season game as Barra was alluding too ..

Luke Edwards is an obvious one.

If you don’t want to drop another midfielder, play an extra one. We were a bit light on for rotations anyway and Shuey and his old man soft tissues won’t help that.

Out: L.Edwards (inj.), Hough (managed), Waterman (omitted)
In: Shuey, Yeo, Kelly

Shuey straight into the midfield to replace L.Edwards.

Yeo to come in at half back and be given bursts onball

Likewise, Kelly to play as a forward rotation with bursts onball.

The midfield replacements that performed against Collingwood deserve to retain their places.

Gaff, Petruccelle etc can work their way back via the WAFL.

I see if we're bringing in 3 mids we need to drop 3 mids. (keep the balance) So Edwards is out with groin soreness and hope its only that and not a progression to worse things to come. The medicos and club have form......

So then we have JJ,West,Nelson and O'Niell. After a career breakout game it is almost impossible to drop o'niell, JJ has been playing semi injured at least so is the easiest one to pick. Then you have to ask the question. If west isn't playing purely inside who is the better player on the outside, who has the skills and who has the hardness. To me it's even for Hardness. But with the players coming in West isn't as good a runner as Nelson, isn't as good at locking a player down (yet), isn't as good overhead and his skills both handballing and kicking are up there with some of the worst in the league. No one is doubting his courage, his attack on the ball, intent to apply pressure and take the game on. But if i'm picking one or the other then it's west who comes out of the side.

To me Rotham also goes out and Waterman moves to being the sub. He can basically play anywhere so is almost the perfect Sub. Petch to come in to cover the loss of Speed and because without (unlucky in one) and bad goalkicking in another he would have had 4 goals in two games this season.

Shuey is an easy in as he was our BOG before going out for covid.
Yeo is the sort of type who just goes hard no matter the circumstances so i'd bring him straight back maybe give him the week after off if needed.
Kelly comes in to play more of a forward/outside mid/wing role like JJ has been. It's not what he's at the club for, for the money but it's what we potentially need him for this week. It also allows the O'Niell experiment to run a week longer inside and rotate who else is in there. Nelson to play the defensive man/ defensive wing shutdown role. Shuey with bursts on ball coming back but also in defence.

If JK needs a rest then Waterman stays in and one of the dropped mids goes to the sub.

Normally my scapegoat but Langdon was outstanding.

Doesn't make sense to me either. If he needs a rest, which he shouldn't, it should be the week after with Port.

No it should be this week as it would have been back to back 6 day breaks. Where as from next week we have an 8 day break going into the port game. It's also why i'm not against dropping some of the mids who played on the weekend as they stood up really well but for some of the youngsters it will be very hard to back that up.

The guy is struggling to have an impact in the forward line let alone anywhere else.

Have you seen how many forward line entries the club have been getting? He's also essentially playing fourth banana as a marking player. 8 Disposals, 1.1 and a goal assist. I mean how much do people really expect of a guy who is playing as a third tall up forward but is actually really at best the fourth most targetted player inside 50 for a mark. Has he been exceptional, absolutely not. But he's still managed 2 goals out of 3 games and 3 goal assists. In a team that is 18th for inside 50's, 16th for clearances and 18th for shots on goal you can't expect much. If we were averaging Melbourne's 60 inside 50's a game (a lot better inside 50's too) He would probably have double the marks, goals and goal assists TBH.

I mean stats aren't everything but I tell you what, He kicks the goal that gives us a buffer at the end and his very next action is a spoil on the line stopping an opposition goal.

Makes no sense whatsoever - he played well and if he's not needed to tag or on the wing then he should slide back to a HBF in place of Hough or Foley.

Foley currently holds the longest consecutive games streak of the existing team.

He is now on 6 consecutive games.

Prior to our 2 occasions this year a team without a player having had 7 consecutive games for a team hadn't happened in the VFL/AFL since 1897. (obviously club startups discounted)

I tell ya what, up until the last 10 minutes of the game I wanted JD dropped and I’ve always been a big fan, hopefully those 2 goals give him a bit of confidence. Yeo has always been a player that takes a while to gather form, hopefully he’s got good touch at training.
Dixon looked gueinely good out there, given that Sydney have such a strong midfield group, I’d be inclined to leave Waterman out this week, especially bringing in underdone midfielders.
Also Nelson has always struggled at AFL level, although I love his effort.

A lot of people have a personal bias against him, so he's always the first one on the chopping block no matter what.
He played on Daicos most the game. Don’t think it’s personal bias, he just got touched up. His role in the team should be tagger. If he’s not playing that role there’s at least 6 better back men and m6 better mids. I personly think we should have him in as a tagger, but doesn’t look like that happens enough

Who to tag this week, Heeney, Mills or Blakey?

I'd say one of the first 2, Blakey probably too tall and quick for Nelson.

No chance Kelly and Shuey play WAFL, and nor should they.

Those two in for Edwards and Waterman.

If Yeo is genuinely ready he replaces the unlucky West.

Gaff is another week away so no footy for him. Petch is coming in at an unlucky point so WAFL for me.

Nelson doesn`t have the tank/fitness yet to tag full time perhaps he is a work in progress due to a role change ..
