Changes for Round 6 v Fremantle

Hope the match committee take a good look at Adam Cockie for round 6. Showed some great use of the ball for Subiaco yesterday. Played some good footy for us in 09.

Time for Masten to have a stint back in the Wafl, embarrassing to watch at the moment.

OUT: MASTEN, BROWN, DALZIELL, STEVENSON, S. SELWOOD, McGINNITY

IN: McKINLEY, SHEPPARD, SWIFT, LYNCH, MACKENZIE, WEEDON

Surely anyone has more to offer then Dalziell. Why we traded for this player is absolutely beyond me. Why he is filling a spot that belongs to either Swift or Sheppard is even more beyond me.

Bring Weedon in to see what he can do up forward, that will also release Lecras to the midfield to provide some much needed class.

Where do I start

Stevenson out? What did he do wrong? Showed more composure and had better disposal efficiency than probably 16 others.

Selwood - I don't understand the hate from everyone. He hasn't set the world alight but with crabs all around him, how can he? There are at least 5 players that should go before him.

McGinnity - Been one of our best all season! I assume you are going off stats (7 disposals), sure we hardly saw him yesterday but he was doing a job on someone. Did absolutely nothing wrong to warrant being dropped.

In reality we are not going to make 6 changes without injuries. 3, Maybe 4 at the most.

Dalziell and Masten I agree with. Brown just needs to return to defence as up forward has not worked. Unless they are intent on playing him forward in which case he needs to play WAFL in that position.

And how, how, how - could you not list Spangher in the outs? He has been sh*t every week, slightly less sh*t last week only because he was up the ground further and not panicking in defence. He is our clanger/turnover/holding-the-ball-trying-to-break-tackles-when-he-has-no-ability specialist. He has to be the first one out of our side.

Weedon hasn't done much to impress and would be behind McKinley, and I think Hansen will be back after only being dropped for match-ups this week (plus 5 goals in his return to WAFL).

Swift will be back in guaranteed after a couple of good weeks, Not sure Sheppard could get a game atm.. probably fighting with Stevenson and Smith over one spot, not to mention Butler still to come back in to the backline.

Ok, so there is a 80% chance we will lose.......so I would use this opportunity to send a strong message to some senior players: that their disgusting performances aren't acceptable. This in mind, here are my changes.

Outs: A Selwood, M Brown, A Embley, BJones, BDalziell.

Ins: Stevens, Swift, Sheppard, Smith, Neates.

We lose experience but gain some skill, ENTHUSIASM and some pace, might invigorate the team a bit.

If this guy is not getting a run in the guts, does he have OP again?

There were a couple of instances yesterday where he could have kicked the ball but he went for the handball instead. Whether he thought that was a better decision or whether he didn't want to kick it, I don't know but watching him move around at times and he struggles. Against Essendon, I thought it might have been general soreness but I saw it once again yesterday so it does make you wonder. Though, from his two kicks yesterday, one was a lace out 30-35m pass to Kennedy.

The other kick must have been his goal. At least when he did kick he clearly used it well!

Cockie is on the rookie list, no more spots available on the senior list as yet.

Having been at the game yesterday there are some glaring points needed to be raised.

1) Brown at present has no idea how to play forward. He is so concerned to not get in Kennedy's or Lecras's way that he runs himself to the wrong spots (usually the boundary) all the time. IMO he is a better CHB but if Worsfold is determined to play him up Fwd then he has to leave him there for an extended time. The idea of swapping him and Schofield just confused both and Brown now has lost the ability to play a position.

I also think Masten is suffering from trying to become a footballer he never was.

2) Teams have worked out that the only defender dangerous in WC's backline is Hurn and they simply close his space. WC CANNOT continue to have Hurn as the only designated clearance player - they must include another and possibly 2. Stephenson is quite an acceptable kick as is Sheppard - and they both must play unless Butler is ready for an immediate return.

3) The midfield is so ho hum at present it would be laughable if one wasnt a WC supporter. Rosa, Priddis and Dalziell across the centre with both Selwoods in centre square as what happened at the start of the 4th qtr is something nightmares are made of. There is absolutely no running or kicking skills apparent in any of the 5 mentioned and this result was a culmination of Worsfold - not for the 1st time - being seriously outcoached.

4) I am waiting to be shot down here - and I'm sorry to say this but neither Spangher not Scott Selwood are of AFL quality. Whilst I am only too aware of the problems of being in an under siege backline, unfortunately Spangher makes the same mistakes every game. Scott Selwood on the other hand shows absolutely no skills apart from the ability to tackle like a terrier, usually because he's always 2nd to the ball. Unfortunately for him, his brother and McGinnity also show the same characteristics but because both are better footballers they get the gig given there is no place in a team for 3 of them.

5) I understand Worsfold has confidence in his coaching plan and the ability of the players to carry out said plan, but IMO he needs to rethink his strategies. I understand there is no Kerr, and probably he would have liked Shuey in the centre square as well but seriously he needs pace in there. Priddis for all his knockers - GETS THE BALL. What he needs is someone to offload it to who has some pace and footskills which will stop him trying to do it all himself and coming undone.

The biggest problem facing WC is whats available in the WAFL. The game is now so reliant on players having pace who can deliver a ball with accuracy - Hawthorn made an art of drafting these exact players and won a premiership because of it.
For some time now we've been waiting for the development to occur in players chosen from 2005-2008. Unfortunately its not all beer and skittles as one may hope.
-- Swift has undoubted pace and ball winning ability but his disposal is questionable even at WAFL level.
-- Smith has shown next to nothing at WAFL level in 2 years and his future must be questioned.
-- Jordan Jones looks OK and certainly offers some run
-- Notte is a long long way away from playing at AFL level again.

There is a lot wrong at WC at present and I wonder whether their 2007 draft may be different if they had their time again.

Not sure your Ash Smith comment is accurate, played well yesterday and has had a few good games already this season.

I am absolutely sure that your judgement on Priddis is flawed. He gets it because he spends 80 mins a game on ball. Anyone could get it a certain number of times given the volume of opportunity. The issue is building a midfield around a guy with no pace, no disposal skills and no creativity ...

It's a waste of time ...

For what it's worth, at the post-match function Scott Burns was asked who was pressing for a call-up in the WAFL and he named Strijk, McKinley and Swift in that order.

Having said that, Strijk can't be called up til round 11 unless we get another long term injury.

I would argue we're not really building anything at the moment. Priddis wins the ball so Priddis plays on the ball - there doesn't seem to be any real thought process beyond that.

We started yesterday with A Selwood, Priddis and Ebert on the ball. I found myself in the facepalm position before the first bounce. The issue with our midfield disposal isn't that when we win the ball when it's tight and tough we bang it long forward (Priddis isn't our only culprit, and the likes of Judd, Black, Bartel etc. do that too), it's that when we win the ball with some degree of time and space we do the same thing.

And that doesn't go into our deficiencies in winning the ball and our total lack of accountability...
