Macrae played well in the VFL game, so could be considered, but I think Cal is more likely. Cal's best position is inside mid where his suspect disposal won't be as much of an issue.

In: Roughy and C Brown

Out: Madge and JDG

Injury Sub: Wilson or Macrae

Been wondering if we’d go for the extra tall against WCE like previously. I know we have a different coaching group but the extra tall has generally done all right for us against them. I’m nervous about their backline, we need to out mark or at least break even against McGovern and Barras who I think is returning this week along with 12 others.

We'll rest players during the season, but we'll need to balance that with giving young players enough time to settle in. I suspect that Ollie's fumbling is a bit of anxiety, but his best has been great. He might be a player that needs a decent block of games to really feel comfortable & perform more consistently.
I agree that he's going to be a special player in due course.

Colin Wisbey noted it as a flaw in his junior footy as well so we will see.

INS: Roughead, Johnson
OUTS: DeGoey, Madgen

B - Quaynor Roughead Howe
HB - Maynard Moore Crisp
C - J.Daicos Pendlebury N.Daicos
HF - Elliott Cameron Sidebottom
F - Ginnivan Mihochek Johnson
R - Grundy Adams Lipinski
INT - WHE Noble Henry McInnes
Looks great to me. Well done igniter

Proposing Cal Brown as replacement for DeGoey is a very poor attempt at humour.

And yet it is what is going to happen.

Sigh

A very poor attempt at humour indeed. How did he think that it would be funny to pick the best performing mid in the ressies to replace a suspended mid.

I think they're expecting 5 to return, not sure where 12 comes from?

I think our new game plan will nullify those 2 to a certain extent. The main thing is not to underestimate them, just because they've had a lot of outs due to Covid. I expect us to win, but lets not take anything for granted.

The same guy who has already played 70+ games of AFL and had next to no impact in any of them? Time to try someone new, don’t you think?

how many of those games was as a midfielder? Not many, I wouldn't think. How many under McRae?
I think everyone gets a clean slate under these new coaches.

New coach. New role. New game plan that should lessen the detriment of his weaknesses. A preseason traininv in this new role and good VFL form. I'm glad he'll got a shot soon and hope he takes it. I'm not confident that he will though.

Lets see who is correct.

Jordan Roughead is set to return for his first game of the season after overcoming shoulder surgery in February, just in time to tackle West Coast key forwards Jack Darling and Josh Kennedy. The Pies will lose Jordan De Goey for the clash at Marvel Stadium due to suspension after his tackle on Patrick Dangerfield. Callum Brown put his hand up for a recall after being named emergency, collecting 27 disposals, 11 tackles and seven clearances in the VFL. Finlay Macrae also played well against Geelong's VFL side, while Ash Johnson pressed his claims for a debut, kicking 4.3 from 16 disposals and nine marks. Mason Cox might find it hard to reclaim his spot from Darcy Cameron after the former Swan polled five coaches votes, although the American kicked three goals against the Cats.

Round 3 substitute: Tyler Brown (unused)

Verdict: Roughead in for Jack Madgen. Callum Brown to replace Jordan De Goey. - Josh Gabelich

All eyes for the Pies will be on whether Jordan Roughead can beat the clock and make an unexpected return against the Eagles, which would put Jack Madgen in jeopardy. D-Day will be Thursday’s session for Roughead. Nathan Kreuger is likely to be ready for the following week. The Pies are getting closer to unveiling Ash Johnson, who kicked four goals in the VFL last week and while he was only on light duties on Tuesday, he still rates a chance.

Well, definitely not the AFL.com.au article. Darcy Cameron only earned 5 coaches votes for about 5 minutes before they realised they'd ****ed up by allocating it to the wrong Cameron and fixed it. Jeremy Cameron scored the perfect 10.
