Good chance the hawks slap us around in the middle this weekend. Newcombe is a bloody star and they have serious leg speed

Bit of MFCSS there.

Our midfield group is currently considerably superior and should, if they have any pretensions to winning some finals next month, shut the Hawks’ lights out.

Time for Tracc, Clarry, Jack and Gus to ratchet up the gears. They’re more than capable of it.

Handy out, Lewis is a gun, would love him at the dees (won't happen though).

Hawks got him at pick 76 which is insane given his height and talent.

Actually, the Hawks ability to strike silver and gold late in drafts is enviable. They obviously develop their players superbly as well.

Have a look at this lot from their 22 which beat the much-better-on-paper Dogs on the weekend:

Worpel - pick 45
Newcombe - Rookie draft
Breust - Rookie draft
Hardwick - pick 45
Morrison- pick 74
Koschitzke - pick 52
Sicily - pick 56
Nash - Rookie draft
Moore - pick 67
Amon - pick 68 via Port Adelaide
Reeves - pre-season draft

That's the best recruiter in the AFL right there.

This one still my favourite
Hodge couldn't have been happier to have smashed him

Like how the TV crew didn't replay Hodge throwing a recreational and additional left at the bloke in the follow up contest.

What I'd like to see but won't happen:

Bring Hibberd into the 22.
Move Smith forward.
Drop Grundy (replaced by Smith up forward) and bring in Woewodin.
Drop Jordon, replaced by Laurie as sub.

Effectively - In: Woewodin, Laurie
Out: Jordon, Grundy

Just thoughts below I think this is such a complicated team selection due to the finals impacts.

On the midfield:-
Laurie has had two games this year and did not show much at all.
Woewodin (out of contract this year) has had four games (and I feel) should get another 1-2 years then they give him a better run in 2024. Not now.

On the defence
I kind of like Smith down back because he is an amazing athlete. If they move him it could be a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul. I guess that would be Hibberd coming in. I like Tomlinson except for his movement. I am not sure who would win a sprint him or Brown.

On the forward line:-
I think they have two choices:-
  • Go traditional (Schache who has only played 1 game this year OR Brown OR McDonald). All have issues.
  • Go mobile that would be Smith. That would be a gamble at this stage.

And whatever they do. Fritsch (when fit) has to come back in doesn't he ?

TMac playing VFL again and Brown doesn't seem likely going by Goody's presser. Undecided about Grundy but made a few excuses for him with the conditions.

Not committed to Grundy, but definitely sounded like we will be playing another useless tall forward moving forward over the coming weeks, be it Brown or TMac.

Pack it up. We are done if so. Best chance for that not to happen would likely be for us to kick a shit tonne of goals this week, if not I think Brown or TMac back in against the Swans is pretty much a lock.

Perfect week to bring in Jefferson. Just do it Goodwin!

Realistically I'm hoping it's Smith to remain forward and Tomo to come back in.

We are done.
Lost to a bunch of average teams. Where do we end up when we lose the next two.
Goodwin doesn't seem to like specialist forwards e.g. Laurie, Schache so count them out.
Jordon must be in possession of the videos, I can't think of another reason for him playing this year.
Maybe our selectors will touch down if/when the hawks beat us.
