I think the big problem with Otten is we all know he is a club champ and a great bloke. And a gun footballer cruelled by injuries.Funny how there were so many melts about Otten being in but silence now. Perhaps people remembering that although be snail paced, he has an excellent footy brain and is still a very good footballer.
Otten's shockers have little to do with Footy IQ. It is his body.On the footy smarts scale /10 Andy is a 9.5, Dear is a 2.

Otten's persistence in the face of adversity is admirable and a good reflection on his character. And a gun footballer cruelled by injuries.
I agree. Hence Otten stats in now with Keath out. Dear is not a consideration Dear's lack of development is disappointing. And Dear's "deer" in the spotlight moments at the lower level? Can't even make a spot his own either down back or forward in the SANFL. He's big and athletic but that's all that's natural about him footy wise.
Id prefer M crouch to get two games under his belt before the showdown.. he has had 3 weeks off with a minor hammy so he should be good to goGive Sloane and Crouch another week.
CEY, Greenwood, Sloane, Gibbs and M. Crouch all played the opening rounds as it turns out
Not sure how Gov is on edge mate? 20 Possessions and game high 11 Marks? Thats a solid return. Yes he dropped a couple and one was real bad and cost a goal but that aside he was good.Realistically Dmac come straight in, we all know he has a golden ticket and is loved by Pyke.
In: M Crouch & Dmac
Out: Hartigan & Poholke
Sloane to be given another week to get his foot right.
On the edge: McGovern.
Funnily, Pyke is the only coach that has dropped DMac... twice.Realistically Dmac come straight in, we all know he has a golden ticket and is loved by Pyke.
I can't see that happening. Pyke admitted that we were too tall in the Collingwood game. Otten only got the nod for the Sydney game when Hampton pulled up sore after mid-week training (reported in the GBU thread). Hartigan's injury turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because it restored the team to a decent structure.Next 2 games are Gold Coast and Carlton, both at home.
Out: Hartigan
In: Fogarty
Leave all the blokes that are injured or carrying niggles out over the next couple of weeks.
Did you actually watch the game, or are you just looking at the stats sheet? McGovern had a good 4th quarter, when he was playing as a loose man in defence, filling the hole in front of Franklin. His first 3 quarters could only be described as putrid, with McGovern single handedly costing the team 3 goals. Not sure how Gov is on edge mate? 20 Possessions and game high 11 Marks? Thats a solid return. Yes he dropped a couple and one was real bad and cost a goal but that aside he was good.
Tend to agree. The interesting thing for us over the next couple of weeks is that we return to being the 'hunted' rather than the 'hunter' as we were on Friday night. I feel that our fringe players tend to be better when we go in as underdogs and they're given specific jobs to do (e.g CEY, Greenwood & co.) and are not so good when expected to win their positions. The injection of Gallucci, Poholke and Knight was also refreshing as they looked hungry and keen to impress. I'd try and keep these guys in the team for at least another week. I could see Mackay getting another rest though given two concussions this year.I can't see that happening. Pyke admitted that we were too tall in the Collingwood game. Otten only got the nod for the Sydney game when Hampton pulled up sore after mid-week training (reported in the GBU thread). Hartigan's injury turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because it restored the team to a decent structure.
Given that Pyke has already admitted that our team was too tall, I can't see them swapping a tall for a tall. It's more likely to be a tall for a small, with both Matt Crouch & Mackay available for selection.
As I see it, the most likely changes are:
OUT: Hartigan (inj), Poholke (omit)
IN: Matt Crouch, David Mackay
McGovern should be placed on notice - another poor performance and he should be sent back to the SANFL, replaced by Fogarty.
He does deserve to be dropped, but he is also worth persisting with.People are being a little harsh re McGov. I don't think he deserves to be dropped. With many outside players out with injuries our fwd line would be too one dimentional with no gov and no Betts.
Tex, Jenkins and Fog is a bit too top heavy. McGovern can work up the wings fairly quickly. Dropping him may only make his confidence worse and cause more fumbling ?
Yeah I did, I was actually there...Did you actually watch the game, or are you just looking at the stats sheet? His first 3 quarters could only be described as putrid, with McGovern single handedly costing the team 3 goals.
McGovern has been really poor all season, from his first JLT game, to 3-quarter time on Friday night. Last year his hands were like vices, marking the ball cleanly in even the most hotly contested marking contests. This year they're cakes of soap, with even the simplest of uncontested marks seemingly beyond him. He has the potential to become a really good player, but right now he's horribly out of form. One more bad performance and he could/should find himself back in the SANFL.
He was poor for most of the game, anyone who says otherwise needs their eyes checkedYeah I did, I was actually there...
McGovern had less of the footy in the last than he did in the 1st and 3rd and apart from a few mistakes your way off the mark.
Gov is so out of form as a forward he should be dropped, however his versatility down back gives him a stay of execution.People are being a little harsh re McGov. I don't think he deserves to be dropped. With many outside players out with injuries our fwd line would be too one dimentional with no gov and no Betts.

Can’t argue with thatRight.
So, who isn't injured then? I reckon we play that guy.
