I don’t think Blakely is playing reduced game time due to fitness, think they’d just rather other players on the field than him, he’s the midfield equivalent of the old pure 2nd ruck.

Also thought he was more than handy last night and was surprised about his limited stats, I couldn’t drop him on performance. He’s performing better defensively and doing his role. Could make a case to drop him if you wanted to change the balance of other areas of the ground but not performance based IMP

Agree, Im a bit compromised as Ive socialised with him but for every dodgy kick there was a nice hand off or link in the chain. He got called out for a horror hand pass but if the guy is calling for it sometimes you have to honor it and sometimes it doesnt work out.

Think I'd be swapping AA Ryan in for Hill there. No way Cox isn't best 22 atm either.

There seems to be a strong Blakely hate brigade on here. The guy could kick 5 goals and there would still be calls to have him dropped.

He set up a goal for Fredericks last night.

He’s often going in hard - sometimes you get pinged and other times you don’t. He’s not the only one making a dodgy hand ball in a game.

yeah, he's performing solidly enough to keep his spot in the team, but equally imo i don't think he's doing enough to displace Tucker for r1 2021

I agree that he has been ok and the hate is way over the top.

One thing I have noticed is he is having a timing issue with the releasing of his handballs in congestion. Sometimes too quickly and too rushed which puts others under the pump or misses targets. Then other times he tries too much and holds onto the ball too long.

Hopefully it continues to improve With game time. There was one glaring late in a quarter (might have been just before half time), where Sydney were pushing forward. He rushed a handball missed a target around half forward and gave Sydney a late i50 entry. Longmuir wasn’t greatly impressed.

The post about not pushing out Tucker is spot on. He needs to get this part of his game sorted. I remember it being a strength a few years ago before he moved hbf, being more Mundy like and giving himself space in conjestion.

Neither as good or as bad as it seems :) He's a fringe role-player - especially with JLo's game style. (Like others) I was guilty of hoping he can be more a few years back. Think those being negative is because he hasn't reached their expectations. But he is solid depth to have available. Willing to put his head over the ball. Disposal by foot appalling at times. Bit over one side mentioning every bad thing he does, and the other every good thing he does. He's in the team because atm he's our best option to play the role he is.

Yep, it’s a strange year without WAFL and less preseason / fitness across the board. Most new players into the team have take a game or two to get back to standard, even Fyfe and Walters.

Any new selections won’t do much for us winning, but maybe help out the following weeks. You’ve gotta give players 2-3 games minimum to prove themselves. Henry stays in for me.
^^^^^ this, spot on.

Further to this, Henry would have last played a full competitive match over a year ago when he did his kneecap wouldn't he?

Patience is needed. Still bloody excited to see him play though.

I get that shoehorning Hogan in might not be the most optimal for team balance to win every game, but we're also a developing team and Hogan does need to come in at some stage. Would we really be happy to have Hogan only play 3 games for the entire year if Taberner stays fit? I get that Lobb is better for us structurally, but it will come down to him or Taberner at some point and it's obvious which one will be unlucky.

Bit harsh on Henry in here.

The kid hasn’t played much footy in the last two years + playing 16 a side twos isn’t the best preparation for AFL. There would be so much space and time playing that footy and it doesn’t really correlate to AFL footy. Henry would have never kicked a footy into a forward half with 30 players in it.

Positives:
  • Positioned himself well on the lead.
  • Was very clean.
  • Brave and confident with ball in hand.
  • 9 touches.
Things to work on:
  • On quick play act play on instinct and take the first option.
  • Defensively chase at 100% not 75% (to create perceived pressure + give yourself the best chance of tackling)

I think these blokes need continuity, they haven't travelled for over a month, so they just go home and rest up for the next game.
Talk of resting Mundy & Hill is mental
