At last that decision came from JL to put Young and Chapman up the ground

On SM-A205YN using BigFooty.com mobile app

My biggest take away from that article is that Clark doesn’t want to move up to the wing so he’s offering Young as a viable alternative!

Edit: and that Young won a centre clearance 25% of the time he attended, if all 3 of our mids did that we’d win 75% of centre clearances, make it happen JLo

I have always been of the view that Young should have been groomed to transition to the midfield. Still not convinced that it is actually happening but at least this is progress.

We have thrown young into the mids a few times this year

It's a last resort move as it stands
bit different though, i think previous times hes been pushed up to the contest as an outnumber or to equal oppo numbers, he was still on the outside of those contests as well

pretty sure this weekend were his first appearances at centre bounces of the season

Dawson is the blueprint for Young. As good as Serong/Brayshaw are, very hard for such small players to lead a midfield to premiership glory without A/B grade support from a group of bigger mids. We have those bigger mids on the list, but it will be 2-3 years before they are cooking.

yeah think the writing is on the wall atm regarding our midfield, clearly cant hang with the big groups ala GWS, footscray etc, MJ and Ras are too young, JOM isnt the answer, at least not on his own, Brodie has some deficiencies but theres still time for him. happy to give young a run in there to help alleviate that issue

Not entirely fair on Erasmus when he doesn’t get picked or is sub.
Can you play JOM and Brodie?
What is obvious is that Henry shouldn’t be playing midfield ATM.

Mind you Brayshaw's listed as 188cm & 88kgs, Young's listed at 189cm & 88kgs on the club's website.

The rain expected on Saturday has got to be considered by the selection committee. I know most players struggled in the wet in the Richmond game but I’m thinking that NOD and Henry in particular may be rested this week. I wouldn’t mind seeing Wilson recalled for the wing and a Will Brodie return.

We need to keep getting games into Erasmus so really hope he isn’t one of the players dropped.

Darcy‘s return May enable the forward line to claw back some synergy with Treacy not needed in the ruck and Jackson afforded more time in forward line.

Are you sure that's not his brother? Andy is listed at 185cm, and I am sure he is shorter than that. When you line the photos of the brothers up, it is a nose-to-middle-chin type of discrepancy which is about 6-8cm. Andy would be around the 180-182cm range. He is clearly a lot smaller than Young.

I've never been the biggest fan of moving Young tbh. I think while his disposal is great, it's often a touch slow in the decision making process and he's a legitimately good defender. Feels like it's not maximising his talents. Chappy on the other hand has a massive tank and I dont think he's shown as much as Young defensively. Having him as an out and running his gut out on a wing makes more sense to me - he's also better at making the right decision in congestion

I think Sean Darcy might be out only regular left footer in the stoppage and it makes us a tad predictable

Yeah I kinda agree .

Like yourself I’ve been agitating to see Chapman in the mid rotation. His talents are almost Wasted down back whilst those same attributes are just made for the midfield.
Hopefully this is the last year he sees majority minutes down back.

That said I think running young thru the mids should still be a legitimate tactic our coaching staff could use to change up our CB set up when things aren’t working ala Luke hodge/hawthorn style .

Nah, reading mistake. I must have been looking with blurry eyes and read the 5 as an 8.

Still, reckon he's got enough fight in him to cover the shortfall.

(they also seem to under-report heights, rather than over- )

I don’t even believe he’s 185cm either. To the eye he just looks so small when up against the premium mids in the comp. I think it’s a genuine issue for us as we also have Serong in there. MJ at least is a big framed guy I guess.
For the remainder of this season would live a decent look at both young and Chapman in the midfield at various stages. Even a couple of games each to get an idea. That’s the kind of experimentation that could really pay dividends in 2024
