Didn’t mean to be a grammar nazi (this time, anyway). Just thought you should know cest pit isn’t the phrase. Not sure it’s even a thing, though it sounds a little bit like a subcategory on pornhub.
YEah I knew when I typed it it didnt look right but couldnt be ****ed changing it. Wasnt gunna stop me from calling someone a NAzi but, thats how shit gets done round here.

Thought he was going for "c'est pit", like "it's the pit"

My hope, with Rotham, is the MC saw his output upfield and how more comfortable and assured he was without ‘deep defence pressure’ that they will try him on a wing or……somewhere further away from deep defence.

IMO guys not going to make it in deep defence.
He never plays deep defence its usually on a flank where he is told to intercept stop pivot turn sideways and kick the footy.
Unlike when he started in AFL and would take the game on and gain running metres for us.
Only in deep defence when Barrass drops of his opponent and has to cover for him

He is actually very good one on one give him a medium forward and 9 times out of ten will beat him one on one.
He used to train matched up against jack darling at training and would do very well against him

Rotham is a lot more proactive with ball in hand forward of centre but goes into a shell in the defensive half. Not sure is he can play HHF/wing but perhaps a game to two up there to get confidence and actually to show him that how dangerous he is when takes the game on.

I was so big on Josh but he is entering lost cause territory for me.

The old Masten role of covering space. Can't say I like the fact that we still use that role, but he isn't getting dropped because of it.
Interesting on site collection of Nelson plays. He certainly has dash and tackles well but doesn’t seem to be permitted to do that sort of thing any more. You have to wonder what role they want him to do

Everyone in the thread wants to keep ‘backing the boys’, players who have been on the list 5+ years and who time and time again provide the same results.

Over half the year gone, 1 win and we are none the wiser in terms of even using this opportunity to see if some of these players can be played in other positions.

Half these posters may as well join our coaching staff with that attitude.

It’s a team game And not everyone will be a superstar. Nelson doesn’t do a lot wrong but gets a lot of flack on here. I’d say he must be doing whatever role the coaches allocate him as he certainly isn’t playing attacking football but that also applies to most of the backline until last week when Yeo and Jones started giving some run. Same thing applies to Edwards, Rotham, Foley, Duggan etc

He definitely seems to have regressed. I really hope it's just a confidence thing and he can recapture some of his dare being moved up the ground in the Beagles. He still has the attributes to be a very good player. I think a more settled team around him would make a world of difference, and take some uncertainty out of his disposal. His stop and sideways kicking in the backline might cease if the midfield is working hard up the ground to create space and options.

I'd personally like to give him another year to see if he can turn a corner.

Has he ever had dare? I've always pegged him as a solid, accountable defender with very conservative disposal.

I've rarely seen him use the pace he showed on GF day, nor take on a kick that a Jetta, Hurn or even a Sheppard would.

He's contracted until the end of 2024.

Haven't seen him use his pace much to break lines, no. But I feel he used to be more aggressive with intercept marking, and definitely pulled the trigger with riskier kicks more often in the past. I think he remains a generally excellent field kick when he goes for it, rather than those sideways dinky chips.

I agree, he does play more of a silent role which isn’t attractive. But other than having a good understanding of the game plan and being disciplined, I don’t think it’s a role that someone else couldn’t pick up who can also add some other attributes, it’s far from the most difficult role.

Someone like a Neal-Bullen also plays a team role and still manages to provide some other positives too.

I recall when Rotham took Hurn's spot a couple of years back and looked very good.

I am really struggling to understand how inept our defensive strategy is or how bad the player is. Reality is that we have had a line up in defence for all bar a couple of games. The speed that the ball comes into our defence is a worry and magnifies the outdated tactics.

B Bazzo Barrass Hurn
HB Duggan H.Edwards Jones
C Gaff Yeo Hough
HF Petrucclle Darling Waterman
F Rioli Kennedy Cripps
FOLL: Williams Foley Kelly
I/C: Sheed, Shuey, Jamieson, Redden
Sub: Witherdan

Imo our squad is finally, roughly where our fitness needed to be in round #1. That means we will probably win about half the games we play from now as we build continuity and form. A huge disincentive to win this particular game that would lock bottom 2.

So Kelly, Ryan and SPS were out with flu, which has been around the club.
It's suggested they'll return and possibly NN depending on training.
Simpo the coach said “If we get Kelly back, we will have the midfield together that we were planning in pre-season, but it hasn’t quite come together.."
That says something, it's taken till round 15 to get our preseason midfield together!
(the one that was practising a new gameplan etc)

And even then, Yeo probably (hopefully) stays in the backline.

An article suggested Yeo was hoping to move back into the midfield.
Usually most would welcome that, but after last weeks game with Yeo and Jones providing some welcome drive out of the back, lets leave him there!?
With TK and SPS returning, Gov out, maybe Yeo will remain down back...blind freddy could see the benefits?

Are the terms blind Freddy and Joe the Goose only used in the footy world?

I’ve never heard them used outside those realms

I thought it was a bit of a dorky term when I used it, but it highlights the obvious.
Yes, blind freddy is used outside the footy world..not heard of joe the goose before?
You know how it is, terminology, speculation, opinions, gossip and cliches go around and round in BF, circulating, contaminating, influencing and finally flushing down the effluent outlet by the sea...
Anyway, might have a bit of a team together again this week. Not crowing about wins but if we can do a similar job like last week, then thats another solid step forward - bearing in mind Cats are a top 4 side and the 'experimental lab rats' are only 2 rungs above us?
