From watching him, he hasn't been fine, and I'm not alone in this view.
But stuff my opinion, lets look at some of the data from the 3 games this year.
36.7 possessions a game, geez that sounds good doesn't it.
Err, except averaging 3 clearances, 2 tackles, 3 inside 50s, 0 goals, 1 goal assist per game.
This is nowhere near good enough for someone getting the cheap ball that much.
But nah, he's been fine...

Slightly better than Daniel Pearce's (the cheap ball King) stats so all must be good!

Oh DP got dropped? Well then...

I think it is hard to use the web on the wider ground. Question is what does Simpson do.
1 change the game plan and miss top 4 and a shot at the GF
2 have a different plan for a ground we hardly play
3 change it up if and when we hit GF day
4 keep banging head against wall at the G
I think leave it as it is and try for the rabbit out the hat on GF day, won't work against a vic team. Woosh changed things up in 06, we owe him a big thanks for that flag.

McGovern at CHF on the MCG would be a good start.

Plus we avoid the ramifications of his 2-3 times a game brain fade intercepted short passes and interesting to say the least, hand passes to players under pressure.

He giving us all the hints he doesn't enjoy backline, so a couple of full games at CHF could be the shot.

Good luck double teaming a high marketing CHF and the completions best leading Full forward.

Plus old rubber chest gets to be the 3rd tall he really is!

Like it or not, we can't afford to drop Jetta. We are way too slow as it is. The only way I could see it working would be if Watson replaced him, but unlikely.

IN: Sheed, Mutimer
OUT: Redden, Giles

Redden a little stiff to be honest but think Hutchings brings more to the table overall. I don't like Vardy-Giles combo, bring in an extra runner and pinch hit with the other talls as the second ruck. No interest in bringing Mackenzie or Schofield back at this stage.

I don't like the Vardy-Giles combo either but not sure Vardy can ruck all game with pinch hitters. He is more the pinch hitter when it comes to rucking. As much as I think Vardy is a better footballer, if we go with one ruck (which I think would offer us more speed around the ground) then it would need to be Giles, who can at least ruck most of the game. We seem overly tall and slow with the current midfield and Giles and Vardy.

Vardy/Darling 70-30 ruck split. Darling is in rubbish form and looks low on confidence. We're going to lose the hit outs most week so lets improve our pressure around the contest and maybe Jack will hit some form.

IN: Schofield, Sheed
OUT: Vardy/Giles, Hutchings

Hurn Barrass Shep
Wellingham Schofield Yeo
Jetta Priddis Gaff
Darling McGovern Cripps
Hill Kennedy Lecras

Vardy/Giles Shuey Mitchell

Sheed, Redden, Nelson, Masten

This is what I'd like to see as well. Bite the bullet & change things up.

The choice between Giles & Vardy will be very difficult to make.
Giles can ruck solo but doesn't provide as much outside ruck, whereas with Vardy there's always an injury risk. He has been really good so far and competed well in the ruck & around the ground.

If Vardy plays as solo ruck and gets injured, who will be the ruckman? Probably a Gov/Schofield/Darling/Yeo combo?

All that said, we aren't quite in the Freo situation where we must make wholesale changes to save embarrassment.
If we get to round 15/16 and we still aren't fully clicking then maybe we need to change it all up.

Maybe..but we do need to try something with Darling...
Yes and I understand the suggestion was just too pinch hit etc But you might aswell not have a Ruckman because he won't be pinch hitting anything at 191 cm. Maybe going third man up but that's not allowed so how's he even going to be competitive ? I don't think doing this helps his form or confidence and I thought we were over the whole Darling to the Midfield thing......

All he has to do is provide a contest, let's not kid ourselves that Vardy & Giles are doing anything but that in the ruck. Giles out,Darling as 2nd ruck and bring in another mid given our lack of run.

I don't think he would provide a thing. That's the problem

I'd say Vardy's ruckwork this year has been pretty good given he's almost always played primarily forward.

Giles' ruckwork has been okay too.

Darling has some decent work at throw ins. He is strong enough to compete. Challenge will be at CBD's but at ground level he should offer us something.

Not seeing the whole game, was Darling that bad? New whipping boy?

Darling is not the best below the knees.

Schofield would be a better option same height as Petrie.

Can add a bit of pace through the midfield he was once a wingman after all.

I'm having flash backs of the North game where I actually Lol seeing Darling go against Goldstein

Not sure the committee will do it but I'd like to give Vardy the #1 ruck and let him go with it.

Gov/TB to take odd one in back half, JJK/JD in front..

We need that extra mid, is has to happen.

Problem in that scenario is if Vardy goes down we are stuffed. We will be rucking with Yeo.
