Changes v Adelaide

Only change I'd like to see has nothing to do with selection. Just please, please, please Ross..... get Crowley onto Dangerfield this time. At least if Thompson picks up an extra 15 possessions, they are likely to be much less damaging than how Dangerfield carved us (and plenty of others) up this season. Curb Jacobs and Dangerfield's influence in the middle and the job is half done IMO.

Unfortunately I can't see Crowley keeping up with Danger. Not the way Danger plays. Thompson is a genuine inside-outside mid and if you can take 15-18 possessions off him then Creepy has done his part. It's up to the rest to keep the contested ball to hot and unclean for the likes of Danger to really do their damage.

I would say it is a near certainty that Crowley goes with Thompson. It is a perfect matchup.

But we can't let Dangerfield have his own way, that's for sure ... 187 and 145 SC points against us this season. He has killed us.

Yep, THIS.... patrick dangerfield has built his career on feasting on fremantle. even before he was good, when he was just in to the afl, he dominated us. It reminds me of when matthew richardson used to play us, or to a lesser extent leon davis... you would watch them in other games and they would have shockers, but when against us they always seem to become match winners.

I really dont know how you stop a guy who goes as hard as he does at the contested ball, but is just as comfortable blitzing it with his pace on the outside. He really has become the complete player.. the only similarity I can draw is with Chris Judd in his early days.

Matt Deboer has some speed to him, more than what he gets credit for... I know he has performed well in his own right, but we sure as hell cant leave dangerfield on his own again, and deboer can match him for toughness at the ball.... he may be our only option, I just cant see anyone else being able to get the job done. Crowley would be too slow you'd think....

Fortunately, if anyone is capable of devising a plan to bring him down, it is Ross Lyon

Grover and a swinging arm at Dangerfield's suspect jaw in the first 5 minutes is our most realistic plan to stop him....
But did anyone see the sydney game on the weekend yet? What did the swans try? Doesn't sound like dangerfield was at his devastating best, 21 disposals at 50% efficiency and 3 clearances

Yeah he's an issue but we simply have to tackle him, there's always a player that's there to tackle him and arm tackles don't work, lay the shoulder in and drive with the hips.

Hmm.. what about Braddles? Hardly inspiring on the weekend, still can't take a contested mark or get a good shot on goal. Still... they're not going to change him until we lose.

The reality is Crowley is one of the best taggers in the league. I'd much prefer to go head to head with Thompson using Mundy, Barlow, Fyfe, DeBoer, Hill than allow the aforementioned go head to head with Dangerfield. Crowley can stop Dangerfield, he's stopped Deledio, Ablett, Harvey, Schuey, Judd who all have amazing pace. You can take the edge of someone's pace by taking them on 200m runs a few times a quarter. Crowley is the master of making his tagger follow him on long runs into the forward 50. Then fairly often outmarks them there. The reason Crowley struggles with Swan is because he'll just go to the bench when he's spent, refuel and start again. Crowley's tactic of wearing them down with superior endurance and strength doesn't work on the guys who avoid it by benching themselves. Fortunately Swan is the only player in the league who'll happily take himself off the ground. Most other 'star' players back themselves to outrun and out bustle Crowley and eventually lose. He also has the mental fortitude to really stick with the task for the full game.

I'd back Crowley against Dangerfield
I'd back Sandilands, Mundy, Barlow, Fyfe, Hill, Pearce, DeBoer vs. Jacobs, Thompson, Sloane, Vince, Van Berlo, Smith, Wright

Dangermouse had his bell rung late in the game and I don't think he came back on. Doc asked him how many fingers he was holding up and he didn't know but that's not unusual for an Adelaide player. Possible out?

Neale played good on the weekend in the WAFL, I wouldnt mind bringing him in for Mzungu who had a poor game.

If any of the other depth players are not 100% fit, then consider replacing them a 100% fit player.

Sydney pushed there forward line into the midfield and the crows defenders followed. This restricted the space he had to run into after he broke out of the backs.

It also left the Sydney forward line empty making it easier for them to score goals.

They also played a loose man in defense and the crows bombed into the forward line.

After they did all of this, if the crows had kicked straight it would have been a close game.

This will be a very tough game, and the Crows deserve to be favourites.

I felt Sydney always had this in the bag. We will play a similar style but have more fire power up forward than Sydney. I am not saying we will definitely win this as Adelaide will be hurt by that game and come out firing. This should be a very close game, I just hope that the back to back travel and the shorter break does not have to much influence on this game but they earned that.

Anyone anywhere.

Was it just a version of the flood then? We were crap when we tried that earlier this year.

No change. Keep McPharLap in the hyperbaric chamber until Hawthorn.

I'd be tempted to tinker around with the selection of Ibbotson, Spurr & Roberton.

For mine, Ibbotson just doesn't stick the tackles that he needs to. I know he structures up in all the right places etc, but in finals games throwing out one armed half arse tackle attempts doesn't cut it.

Maybe out Spurr. In Roberton. Sub Ibbotson (can come on and have effect later). Start Suban on the bench.

I'll qualify this by stating that I've always liked the way Roberton goes about it.

Swans just had their pressure and ferocity in and under nullifying him to an extent. Ibbotson needs to stay due to his experience and has been serviceable around the ground. Someone like Roberton coming in can cause a structual problem as he is very similar to Duffield. Keep Kepler in, just makes sense having him up forward and helping Pav find space and taking a tall with him. Does his job and did it well having one of the best CHB in Taylor on him on Saturday night.
Really shouldn't be any changes. Unless Lyon is unhappy with Spur. Suban should start sub again, damaging and adds more in the third quarter rather during a full game.
