Cox is only a ruckman as well, l wouldnt be depending in Cox to be that goal kicking key forward. Thats not to degrade Cox in anyway, but he has trouble holding marks, unsure where to lead to or when and other club defences work off his defencies which are a few to their advantage. To me Cox would be better as a tap ruckman 100% of the time, where he looks alot more comfortable.

At Collingwood Cox is a forward or hes nothing.

Its of no benefit to us to use him as a ruckman because hitouts alone are not enough when we already have Grundy in the side to do that. He needs to hit the scorebaoard and to do that needs to clunk marks. If he doenst do that then we go to more mobile option.

You can make players want to stay by seeing their potential, help them build that potential into being a regular senior AFL player. Witts wasnt given much opportunity under Bucks, now at the Suns, they saw his potential and now they are reaping the rewards.
They did just that, they saw his potential and tried to make it work. unfortunately witts was only number one ruck, tap ruck with no other strings to his bow. We want him to stay, he saw Grundy ahead of him and wanted to be the man, hence he left. Which one between Grundy and Witts did you wanted to stay. I am a big fan of witts, but overall Grundy is a better ruckman. It was up to Witts not us. Both could not play in the same team

We do have an excellent record against the Giants. They have only beaten us once on the back of that last second goal by Johnson. They have been a very good side for much of that time too. I think our style of play seems to worry Sydney, Geelong and the Giants, Why, I don't know.

Sydney and Geelong makes sense.

Both more inside stoppage sides like us.

GWS makes no sense whatsoever.

Eddie said many many years ago that Collingwood doesn’t sack coaches through the season. So me thinks Buckley will have to walk or he’s going to be there to the end of the year no matter where we finish.

Will be stuck with him this time next year too, sadly.

They'll win it for him this week, though.

They have line breakers that can hit up 50m kicks at pace, their ball movement (until they faded later) was excellent, mixture of leg speed and players able to move it on fast long and to advantage of the lead.

Carlton's last few games vs us have significantly stifled our ball movement, if they do that and move the ball like they have they will be hard to beat. Bolton taught them heavy team defence last year and is adding that attacking element this year.

May 2017,

Carl 12.7 (79) to Coll 8.8 (56).

May 2016,

Carl 15.9 (99) to Coll12.12 (84).

In total, Collingwood took just five marks inside 50 vs Carltons 11.

Maybe we should stop playing them in may.

I have no idea where you are going with this. The ladder is a weighing machine and we finished above them last season.

Back to my original post - I think we have AT, Maynard, Murray, WHE, Crisp, Varcoe, JDG, Stephenson and Wells (if only he could get fit) as line breakers.
Where is their speed - Cripps, Murphy are slow infact Carton were bottom ranked team in by metres gained in 2017 according to footywire.com

What's the go with McLarty. I'm really keen to see him get a game, but I understand he didn't play last VFL game.

He hasn't played the last two.

There are murmurs that he is injured...

Witts wanted more time in the ruck which would have impacted Grundy. Who do you keep happy?
We rightly chose Grundy.
It was never a Cox v Witts debate.

Forgive me if this has been raised earlier in this thread, but what about someone like Wills at Full Forward and Darcy back at CHF. Send Reid down back where he really belongs, and run a similar forward line to Richmond?

Darcy at CHF emulating Reiwoldt as the only KPF and have Wills (192cm so not short) playing a similar role to Townsend. Wills should be able to provide good forward pressure and unlike others can actually stick a tackle! Nothing more annoying than watching broken tackle after broken tackle. His pressure and tackling should be able to create oppurtunities for the likes of Sidebottom, fasolo, elliot etc

Forward line could line up as:
WHE Moore Sidebottom
Elliot Wills Fasolo

These are Travis Varcoe's statistics in three seasons at Collingwood coming into this year. The bloke is the very definition of a passenger and is a front runner if ever I've seen one.

Was worst on ground by a street last night. It wasn't even close to second.

Didn't you see Cox? Worst performance that I've ever seen in the AFL.

Needs to play back not forward I reckon. He could have been on Rioli. That's what I would do with him.

Yep. I haven't seen him play a game up forward for the Pies that I would describe as even solid. But in defence, he's generally been very solid. Their forward cut us to ribbons with pace and agility. He was our best bet once it became obvious that our defenders couldn't cope with the pace and spce that these guys were able to operate in.

They move the ball quickly by footskills, 50m kicks and have quicks in the right positions. Ladder is a weighing machine but I was talking head to head vs us recently how we stack up.

Murphy isn't slow.

Cripps is average paced but his role is not meant to be outside the packs is it!

Petrevski-seton, Garlett, Fisher all have a turn of pace.

Meters gained can be work rate related or game style.

Murphy is slow now.

Yeah but he did have a lot of good hit outs when in the ruck. (Saving grace)

Nevertheless, Cox has been suspended for a week.

In: Fasolo, Mihocek
Out: Cox, Smith

I'd be keen for Cal Brown in but not sure where, and they'll annoyingly hold Wells over for one more.
