GWS are playing a smaller style team.

With Patton the only real monster, Cameron and Himmelberg are agile talls.

Let Grundy go H2H with Lobb, and he should beat him.

Leave Moore as CHB, but let him play relief ruck if Grundy needs a rest.

Dunn to take Patton, Howe or Moore has to step up and potentially take Cameron (the other play as a spare intercept defender) and Langdon to take Himmelberg.

We need Crisp to shut out Greene.

Reid to be surrounded by flanker types who can mark - WHE, Aish, Stephenson, Crocker and Fasolo.

Give Varcoe and Langdon a huge rocket and demand they perform or be next in line for the chop. Perhaps Varcoe might even get thrown the Greene challenge?

Confident Pendles, Treloar, Adams and Grundy will be stung and have big games.

Out - Cox, Smith
In - Fasolo, Brown or Seir if he is ready

It would be very collingwood to beat GWS...but then lose to Carlton.

How good is this photo, Cox doing a stupid elbow while Phillips fumbles a ball that gently hit him on the chest.

They should use that photo for one of those comps where you have to guess where the ball is. No one would get it right. What the f is Phillips doing with those Edward Scissor hands? Seriously that is embarrassing- there is no pressure, there is no one near him.

The bloke can't coach but he is working with players at toddler level hand eye co-ordination.

How did all those go against Hawthorn? Who did they play on?

Time to try something different...

B: Langdon - Dunn - Maynard
HB: Murray - Reid - Crisp
C: WHE - Adams - Stephenson
HF: Brown - Moore - Sidebottom
F: Fasolo - Howe - Crocker
R: Grundy - Pendles - Treloar
INT: Thomas - Aish - Phillips - Varcoe (All except Thomas should be out of the team)

All we do is bomb the ball forward, let Howe try to take mark of the year a few times a quarter..
Has the stickiest hands at the club.. We need to score goals, the Defence will hold up..

Brown needs to be told his KPI is 8-10 tackles in the forward 50 per game.

I would give Greene to Murray.
Baptism of fire and the kid will hold his own too..

All good, except that Howe is a sub-average forward. He just can't set himself in the same way, not least because opposition defenders inhibit his run at the contest in a way they never do at the other end of the ground.

He was only a slightly agove average defender at Melbourne also.. but was on the verge of an All Australian selection only 2 seasons later.

There is literally no harm in trying it..
If it doesn't work, nothing ventured.. nothing gained.

Howe is the best defensive interceptor we have, and he does better than anyone else at setting up the play from our back half. Removing him from that role would do quite a bit of harm, I think. Moore might grow into that role eventually, but not yet, and Reid's reaction times are too slow these days for defence.

But maybe they'll do it, maybe they'll swing him forward. What do I know? What I suspect is that Buckley threw out the names of Mayne and Blair in the post-match as a smokescreen. Wishful thinking? You betcha. Taking it further, I think (i.e. hope) that Sier will be brought in for his debut. We needed a bigger body in the midfield against Hawthorn, and we'll need one on Saturday as well. Sier comes in for Smith.

We have no Cox, but I'm not sure that McLarty is ready to rumble. A lack of VFL practice doesn't bode well. Brody Mihocek could get a call-up instead. He'll go back, Moore will go back (i.e. forward), and the balance of the cosmos is restored. Victory is assured.

Phillips is an omission. The non-inclusion of C. Brown last week was, in my opinion, an oversight.

In: Sier
Out: Smith

In: Mihochek
Out: Cox

In: Brown
Out: Phillips

I was angry with Aish after last Saturday, and I may have said some bad words about him at the time. I felt bad later. Aish gets a reprieve for the week.

Go Pies!

If Moore plays in the backline, I’m officially done with Buckley. Stevie Wonder could see where Moore should play. Within the first 5 minutes of him playing as a forward in the 4th quarter, he kicked a goal and assisted in another. He’s both tall and agile, and loves to take a mark.

Moore and Mclarty forward, and Reid in the backline.

We need youth and agility in the forward line and Leadership down back.

It’s pretty simple, Moore in the backline and Buckley is done for me. This is my tipping point.

I do not like how buckley fails to try new things. Essendon in the 80s won a GF by shifting most of their team around to win from a significant deficit at 3qtr, if my memory is not wrong. So why is Buckley unable to fix our forward issues?. Our backline did quite well considering the pressure we felt for most of the match. I would like to see how a forward line with Reid and Moore/howe at FF would operate. I will back Mihochek, McClarty not ready imo. But if Mihochek is supported he should hold up fine given his size and experience. Playing players like Adams at Full foward was a mind blower, but a player with some sort of x-factor wouldn't be a bad idea, eg.) Moore/Howe.

Only took 5 minutes into that last qtr that told me Moore needs to be up forward. We have no energy up there.

IN: Mihochek, Broomhead, C.Brown
OUT: Cox, Smith, Phillips/Aish

Edit: WHE at full forward or deep forward is not a bad idea either imo.

Pardon?

100% on the money here. Hawthorn swamped Cox by dropping the man in front, knowing that's his best shot at clunking a mark. I can easily see GWS doing the same on Howe

Witts wanted Grundys role - and told he wouldn’t get it.
So he left. So your blaming of the club that we should have kept him is completely off the mark. Players leave for more opportunity at other clubs all the time eg Mitchell to the Hawks, not much a club can do.
To be fair Witts was looking better than Grundy and then injured himself in Round 1 while Grundy had an exceptional year. Was hard to imagine Grundy not being #1 after that but I would’ve loved Witts to have dug in and stayed. Genuinely happy to see him do well at the Gold Coast.

if we are any chance of winning then Fasolo has to come in and Moore has to play forward.

Too much overthinking going on - play players where they are best suited.

Moore forward, Reid back. Howe has to stay in defence too - that's where he's played career best footy.

In: Fasolo & Brown/Sier
Out: Cox & Smith

Except maximise the return on said player at the trade table which we did not.
