In- Fasolo, Daicos
Out- Cox, Smith

Only changes that make sense, we have enough "extractors" but lack a bit of class around the ground, GWS will be licking their lips either way. Fasolo obviously adds more forward balance, Daicos is a player who can run through the midfield and potentially be creative. It's a game where we need to persevere with kids because it's going to be a great learning experience for guys like Stephenson, Murray and Daics (if selected).

I am fearful we are about to witness a ruthless GWS with memories of their loss to Richmond on Preliminary Final day.

Interesting that Clarkson after the game said he was glad pies still gave a tough contest because you need that round 1 for the bodies to adjust and blow out early in preparation for the season, giants had a training run against the dogs so if pies can turn up on game day we might be able to shock their players. But I’m just being optimistic and it probably doesn’t mean much

I did think the same thing as I watched the Giants-Dogs game. We played badly, but the Dogs were almost completely absent against the Giants.

Moving Moore back to forward line isn't exaxtly new now is it? Adams at full foward is new but ridiculous if anyone thought it would work, doesnt have enough forward line qualities to do any real damage.

I was also referring to our structure and game play. We rarely used the corridor on Saturday, we played slow and down the wings into hawthorns favour. So please explain to me what has Buckley tried that is different that isnt idiotic like playing our best contested on baller at full forward.

A little win against GWS will right the ship, I think we have Buckley’s Hope but stranger things have happened.

I would like to see McLarty, a big mobile KP player, could be a revelation. I’m still bullish on Daicos but I think Blair will get the nod, lost the last one against GWS with a miss from 15, can make amends for it or not.

The one thing you can say about the Pies is we rarely chuck it in as many other sides do. We scrap and fight and stuff up and scrap again. That's part of the frustration-the effort is clearly there but it is rarely rewarded. We could have given the Hawks a big fright the other night but continually stuffed up golden opportunities.

Panic is a distant memory, a point of nostalgia...ah for the days when we bothered to panic about selection!

But Thursday will prove me a liar, of course, when Blair gets a call-up and memberships get a burning...

No Fas and Moore to stay in defence. Hmmmm indeed.

Sier mentioned as in the mix, he really needs to be there. The prospect of Mayne getting a call-up will leave many of us begging for Blair...

As for the Broom, keep him in the cupboard.

My God, sometimes you'd swear Buckley is a plant trying to destroy the club from the inside. As so many have said both here and in the media-it's not the loss that hurts so much...it's the terrifying SAMENESS of the loss and the same can be said for his comments to the media. He continues to throw up names like Blair , Mayne and Broomhead as potential ins to change our fortunes. He does it with a straight face and expects the supporters to be bubbling over with enthusiasm.

This , from a Buckley lover and defender for most of his tenure. We are fading into irrelevance.

Fasolo is one of those players that will never have a dominate pre season or dominate vfl although his talent will shine in AFL games, and yes he will have quiet games as a small forward. Although Buckley demands hard work over talent and this is the problem... fasolo had 2 quiet first practice games? MAYNE had 2 possessions in JLT!?

There's always a logic there, somewhere, even if it's hard to find.

He's suggesting that there needs to be continuity in the back half, which is not entirely nuts...except that there still needs to be viable targets up forward. Who knows, he might end up making the move with Moore in any case.

I'd be shocked if Mayne plays. Alright, I wouldn't be shocked but I'd be a little surprised. Mayne. Has. Shown. Nothing. I find it hard to believe the selection committee will confuse him for someone who has something to contribute.

It is the most profound indictment of our list that Blair can still be considered for senior footy, but there you go. I think he would have shown more than at least 6 of our players last weekend.

I hope that Sier plays. I think he's someone who can have immediate impact, and he's in better nick now than he's ever been.

But yes, besides all that we are going meekly into the night. It isn't pretty.

I don't want to harp on this, but...

47 games
15.7 possessions per game
0.38 goals per game
3.98 tackles per game
3.91 marks per game
Not a key position player
Not a lock down defender
Not a ruckman
Effectively a midfielder / flanker
For a supposed good kicking player he kicks more behinds than goals
Not a young guy finding his feet in the AFL (had played 138 games over 8 seasons when he joined and won 2 premierships)

These are Travis Varcoe's statistics in three seasons at Collingwood coming into this year. The bloke is the very definition of a passenger and is a front runner if ever I've seen one.

Was worst on ground by a street last night. It wasn't even close to second.

I do not understand how he doesn't get more scrutiny, because he is not cutting it. For such an experienced player he should be setting the tone and driving the team on, not the opposite.
Amen.

The point you made that I questioned was that he doesn't try anything new. The rest of that has nothing to do with the fact that it was a confusing statement when you immediately cited a change that he had tried.
