O’Neill has played a total of seven games, the first five of them came in the space of 18 days in the second hub last year.

He’s also never played more than 75 per cent game time. And for the majority of his games that’s less than 75 per cent of shortened games.

But new is always better, so let’s get Trew in.

And he's looked impressive nearly every time to me, very clean, looks like he belongs.

Having said that, if they decided to go with Trew I'd be pretty excited to see what he could bring.

I think we need all hands on deck in the middle for this one - Trew would end up with something like 40% game time, playing off a flank - would need a few games to find his feet - very happy to be proven wrong but would rather bring in O’Neill and drop one of the low impact small forwards to get Trew some games under his belt.

XON was dropped for his lack of defensive running and pressure overall and his WAFL game didnt really show signs of overcoming that

Oh lord, we haven’t got another Partington have we?

Interesting.

Oh geez, are we really going to assume that a poster knows why XON was dropped - other than being the youngest, most inexperienced mid to make way for the captain?
That poster has a track record of correctly revealing inside information from the club. For example, they informed us of Yeo's OP well before anyone else.

Yeah because thats how you pick a team.

"XON i like your hustle but your birthday is not until next week so no game for you, Jarmaine your in"

Im hardly revealing a big secret here. XONs defensive work is crap and it does need improving

He has been fairly accurate with info bud, so I am inclined to give him more acknowledgment than others with "inside info" :)

So the Saints have had honesty chats have they?
Such a topsy turvy team thing to do. Come out unprepared and back slapping and then when it goes to shit turn around and say "yeah well you don't chase" and that gets them riled up until they win again which brings out the back slapping etc.

One thing I noticed form StKildas game last week (the bit I watched) was it looked like they were playing a zone defense still with players guarding space all down the ground looking at each other and making sure they equidistant from each other while Essendon just played on and spotted someone up in the middle of a few Saints. I don't think you can do that much anymore with the quicker ball movement.

If you're going to attempt to be a smart-arse then you could of at least picked 2 players from the same position.

Not denying that XON defensive pressure may be lacking, but to categorically state that he was dropped for that reason without possibly exploring other factors such as players available in the same position leaves you open for criticism.

It was a team restructure during the week but you dont get dropped with a "You were doing fantastic, you are so unlucky" pass at a successful club like Eagles. Every player gets dropped with something to work on and XONs was that.

So is Trew getting a game over Xon?

Id rather Xon purely as we need to get games into him but i wouldnt be unhappy with Trew getting a gig as long as he is ready.

Just please no Ainsworth as a mid.

No idea. We havnt decided yet as teams are done this afternoon

XON may still play etc for sure. I just know they were not as happy with him as people think they we are. Like he wasnt dropped with a well done is all

If XON does play id expect him to be getting less uncontested footy and more contested stats for 100% sure.

XON did his best work against Perth at the coleface. He certainly got the message and responded.

Adam Simpson: "He went out of the side because Luke came in. He’s still got some things to work on, total football type of package we’re looking for, but he’s finding the ball,” Simpson said.

That is 100% code for "doesn't run both ways and needs to work on defensive efforts"
