THe old sub rule didn't have the medical opponent. It was unpopular - I can't remember why - so they scrapped it. What was the issue with it?

It was shit, players often missed vfl to play a single quarter or nothing at all. Hindering development of youth.

Players debuts were coming on as a last minute sub.

They took away a spot from the 4 Interchange.

There were other things to iirc.

The bench will increase not decrease as it did in 2011.

Personally I’d keep the sub. He only comes on if there’s an injury or tactical reason.

Five on the bench rotations is overkill. I reckon the formula is about right so it only needs a tweak… remove the medical rule which is easily manipulated around.

I guess because they haven't removed one of the 4 Interchange spots it's not as looked down on.
It's seen as a bonus, I still don't like it personally. Rather they just added a 5th Interchange player but that might defeat the purpose.
