Round Eighteen - Away vs the Dees

Happy Friday Wazzas! I'm back with the final review of the home & away season (you know we belong together!), proudly brought to you by Dinsdale Reminder Services. Dinsdale's Reminders - Time for a beer.

After the second of two byes for the season in round 17, we headed to the Snow Dome to shake up the Dees knowing that a win against the already-crowned wooden spooners would seal our first minor premiership in 17 seasons. The week itself was pretty good given we were coming off the bye and they were winding down to Mad Monday. A former Warriors skipper did a lot of the heavy lifting for the Mountaineers, while we got into our work quite well.

The game itself went to script for a first versus last game. We kicked the first goal after 38 seconds (an absolute beauty if you ask me!), before teasing the hosts by conceding the next two goals. We kicked the next five to take a 27 point lead into the first change, and by half time led by 38. Things steadied from there, because the half time lead became the full time lead and just like that, the minor premiership was making its way to Van Cortlandt Park!

Dinsdale led all comers with 31 disposals, 7 tackles and a goal. He was well fed by pantskyle who had 18 hitouts to go with 22 disposals, 3 tackles and 2 goals to dominate the reigning All-SFA ruckman. Others to impress were The Filth Wizard with 5 goals, TheInjuryFactory (22 disposals & 2 goals), Agent93 (25 disposals & 5 marks), Piggy Smalls (3 goals), spudmaster (20 disposals & 4 marks), Purple7x08_24 (16 disposals/6 marks/1 goal) and I did OK too.

First Qualifying Final - At Home vs the Royals

Hello Wazzas, here's a review for you about our first finals match since an elimination final two seasons ago against Roy. Here's the skinny...

It seemed like last week that we last played the Monarchists so you could forgive them for taking a bit of time to realise that the match thread was up, but when they did they stuck out their collective chest and hooted and hollered for a while before settling down to a week of relative conviviality. We didn't get uncomfortably close but close enough.

It was that closeness that permeated into the qooty on the Friday 3, although the ebbs and flows ebbed and flowed. The visitors kicked four goals in the first nine minutes, only for us to kick the next four. Another three goals to them and two more to us saw the Citizens lead by six points at the main break. Then we did it all again. They kicked four of the next five to lead by a game high 26 points midway through the third quarter, before we kicked the next four to overtake them.

For 14 glorious minutes in the final quarter we had managed to not only take but keep a slender lead, however a dubious non-mark decision against SBYM allowed the resident Royal brane to kick a goal and retake the lead. We had one final shot from Piggy Smalls which was sailing towards goal, only for the sim to conjure a fist from out of its arse and spoil the attempt. Then the final siren went, and like our last meeting the Royals had made out like bandits courtesy of a four (4) point victory. They get the week off, we get to host the Babylonians. Could be worse though, we're still in it.

The in-form pantskyle won the battle of the rucks with a 22 disposal/15 hitout/4 tackle/2 goal effort to feed the likes of spudmaster (27 disposals/7 marks/1 goal), TheInjuryFactory (25 disposals/7 marks/1 goal) & Dinsdale (18 disposals/4 tackles/1 goal), while The Filth Wizard (4 goals) & Piggy Smalls (2 goals) were the other multiple goal kickers.
