I think Burgeil asks for a trade at seasons end . Just doesn't look happy or interested at the beagles .

This would be a disaster tbh.

I know he’s been injured, and has work to do on his defensive game, but he has exactly what we need.

He could go to another club like Richmond for chips and we’d be left looking for a hbf with speed and elite skills, I.e exactly what Burgiel offers.

You didn't say that and who's triggered?

Just over a month ago we'd smashed freo and melbourne and looked on the up and freo didn't look too flash, a month later and and a rebuilding side with some key injuries and a couple of close losses and suddenly we're 10 years off finals again if we listen you you doomsdayers, a month is a long time in footy. Warner isn't out of contract for a year and a half and I'd back us in to be in a much better position by the end of 2025 than we are now, and freo will still be flagless.
Yep agree it’s part of Big Footy though. Ride the win loss roller coaster every week. We win we are on our way to a grand final, if we lose it’s 10 years of hell in front of us. Simmo thread is the classic, win its silent, lose and it springs to life.

It would be nice if we could at some stage play with our best 22 or close to it. Something that hasn’t happened in a long time.

It's mid field depth that is lacking, currently if one of Yeo, Kelly and Harley are out the Eagles will.struggle. Two out and suddenly can hardly win a clearance or stoppage.

Having low draft Pick's over a long time has created this. Hopefully the recruiting team can address this.

My notes on Vic Metro vs Allies:

•Jagga with the most disposals and clearances, he’s just an incredible accumulator and extractor, his frame is a concern to me but he keeps showing he deserves to be a top 3-5 pick.

•Kako is the best small of this draft, goal kicking can be erratic but he’s going to be a high volume goal kicking small

•Murphy Reid is awesome, unfortunately he’ll probably fall in between our first and second pick, but he’s one of the archetypes we lack

•Trainor had some nice moments, definitely not a player I’d want us going after though

•Moraes was very good, especially in the last quarter, the knock on him is he’s very outside though, although our outside players are probably our biggest weakness in the midfield mix

•Smillie had a brilliant first half, disappeared completely in the second half

•Lions / Suns will continue to reap the rewards of their academies. Uwland, Lombard, Ashcroft and Marshall.

Agree with most of this. Jagga was great, concern is size and also January birthday does he have as much upside left? Fantastic at getting the ball out, but also only 60m gained. His strength is clearly extraction/clearance work but is that what our list needs with our young mid group? Moraes a better fit in this regard as you said, if we split our 1R I think we’d want to select him with the higher pick.

Ulwand is good enough for a high pick this year and to think he still has another year of development.

Hopefully Buss makes it over so no need for Trainor, but again he would be very appealing for North.

To complement Kelly and Reid (and to a lesser extent Yeo who has 2-3 years left)
i would want to draft a speedy extractor / distributor in the Serong / Merrett mould - ideally a two-way runner as i fear that Reid and Kelly dont particulalry well. Ginbey helps with that.

I reckon Lucca Greggo is worth a mention too. He had some very good moments and thought Shanahan was pretty good considering the conditions for a tall.

Opinion on Lions 2025 academy prospect Dan Annable?

Want to see if your opinions differ from our board.

****ing hell calm down Sid draper. Dude might be taken pick 2 if Smillie slides
Can only be a good thing for you, to have O'Sullivan, Draper and Moraes all performing at a high level. Would have to be happy with any of the three.

We should not be drafting based on what compliments Yeo and Kelly.

Both are 30 and will be off the list within 2 years.

We should be drafting based off what we will need for the next 10 years, not the next 2.

Why bother?

Let’s not clog up our board discussing players who are not available to us in the draft.

Clearly just trying to get under obeanies skin with academy talk.

There’s a thread on the draft board to discuss draft talent.

I suggest you go there and ask them

After adding Jack Hutchinson with pick 3 in the mid season draft, we head into the mid season bye in 16th place with presumptive picks 3, 23 and 59 having traded our 3R pick to help secure Clay Hall last year. Two year contract extensions have been signed by Liam Ryan, Bailey Williams, Harry Barnett and Ryan Maric.

Players we remain linked to in trade period include Jedd Busslinger and Liam Baker, whose clubs are likely to demand our 2R pick at a minimum should they remain unsigned. Free agents Harry Perryman and Isaac Cumming may also be of interest to the club, but there hasn’t been much noise around them being linked to us. Early interest in Tim English seems to have cooled, who is reportedly working through a deal to remain a Bulldog.

We have a full list of 44 players, with Noah Long to also return from the long term injury list which means list spots are likely to be tight at the end of the year.

Debate continues as to whether the club will be better served by selecting the best midfielder available with our first pick or whether we should explore splitting it to obtain multiple first round selections. With the U18 championships already underway, our intended draft strategy, player retention and targets are no doubt being discussed in earnest by new list boss Matthew Clarke and the team.

Most draft discussion has centred around positional needs of an elite mid, KPD, HBF and winger. With two weeks before our next game and our first look at both Vic Country and Vic Metro today in back to back U18 championship games, what does the ideal realistic draft and trade outcome look like to posters?

Elite mid with pick 3 a must. Has to be an accumulator with speed and a tank. Don't split it.

Personally I think our second most important need is a rebounding defender. Elite kick and defensive smarts like hurn. Duggan does my head in. Cole shits me to tears.

Baker would certainly help with both defence and midfield which is why we should try and get him.

Next is out wing positions.
I am still glass half full on Chesser as a wing and would like to see maric on the other. Have to retain Burgeil for one more and see if he has what it takes.

If you're wanting an elite kick off half back because Cole and Duggan give you the shits, then I advise you not to watch Richmond when Baker is playing...

Your list of priorities for us is spot on.

Can't believe this. As I predicted with FOS is out draper is closing the gap to the point he is neck and neck with FOS.

Lift Smillie!!!! I'll lose my shit if FOS is pick 1 and Draper is 2. I said from the outset the gap between Draper/FOS and the rest is sizeable
Why's this a problem?
