If the money required to keep Yeo stops us from blowing everyone out of the water for Sam Taylor then he has to go....

In all likelihood Taylor will be signed up at GWS before Yeo is signed up.

Ridiculous money - We need our war chest to hold onto our future talent. Adelaide have been the most aggressive in pursuit of the two-time All-Australian, tabling an offer believed to be around $2.7 million spread over three years — front-ended with a massive $1.3 million-dollar first season.

Every week Kako is spending more time in the midfield for Calder and its starting to pay off big time for both his own form and that of his team. He was dynamic with his ability to win contested footy and bust clear for damaging possessions, pumping it inside 50 12 times and setting up a number of shots on goal for his teammates. On a rainy and slippery day, Kako's cleanness with the footy stood out.

We would never get band 1 compo for yeo at his age . Band 2 would be the highest we could get and that would end up a mid 20s pick .

Richmond wouldn't even accept that for Baker.

Its much better for the club that yeo stays , much better for our young mids he stays and much better for Harley that he stays .

Give him a 2 year with a trigger for a 3rd year .

Also yeo leaving as a FA would stop us targeting a FA .

If ever a situation screams "rolling 12 month contract" it's this one.

Yeo hasn't even played half our games since 2020 while collecting big coin. He's had chronic groin and other soft tissue injuries for years and is currently injured due to a can you guess, groin injury. Yeah he's played 5 or 6 excellent games this year but it's not enough to indicate he'll have the durability to keep producing that in the future.

The club has stood by him and he needs to repay the favour. Call his bluff. If he wants to uproot his young family away from their support network for maybe an extra 12 months on his next contract, do it.

Having said all that I'd say that based on recent history the club will cave and give him 3 years. We gave McGovern a new deal (whilst injured) and Ryan a new deal (whilst injured). Regarding the latter I'm not sure if Pyke had his feet under the desk by then but he might take a more hard nosed approach with Yeo, here's hoping.

Trading Yeo for the right price is the sort of trade we need to do to bring in more young talent. However reluctant we'll all be to see him go. Not if the AFL shafts us though. Yeo is one of the top handful of midfielders going.

... when he's fit.
I cant belive anyone would be willing to pay him 1.3 for one season with the injuries he has had over the last 3 years. With Gaff surely being moved on we would have another 800-900k to spend?
Which we will need to convince Harley to stay. But I think we'll likely also need Yeoy so...

A potential positive out of the Adelaide (among others) contract offer for Yeo being extremely public now, if we do get Yeo cheaper than rival offers, which should happen as:
  • We have paid him pretty well to not play a whole lot due to injuries.
  • He is a premiership player.
  • WA boy with family and business in WA which are better suited being based in WA. I personally would spend a lot more time and money at a pub (or any business) of an Eagles player/legend than I would if they were an associate of any other club.

Anyway back to the positive of it all, once he's signed, then I hope we sincerely use this as great way to educate our 20 players under 21 years of age that bigger offers will come and you don't need to accept them. What we have here is pretty special and if we all sacrifice a little, it goes a long way towards the holy grail.

I am not suggesting everyone needs to be low-balled, although we don't need to be bent over for any player. Hopefully Matt Clarke and Sir Pyke can find a way to use this situation in a way that benefits the whole club in numerous ways.

Let him go if it's band 1. Club should contact afl to ask on specifics of compensation

This came up once, I think it was Daniher.

You can’t check in with AFL on what prospective compo might be before lodging FA paperwork, and as a UFA we won’t have any ability to match.

Surely an off the record discussion can be had?

Reid pulls off a few more performances like the one on the weekend and we'll have players lining up to play with him.

Not just WA guys too.

No chance Yeo leaves just as things are getting spicy again. He loves Harls.

I think they have changed that.

Hence the debacle with Nth/Bombers last year (delayed lodging of paperwork etc).

Dream result would be Baker and Busslinger both in, while somehow keeping our 2024 first. Might require us parting with 2025 first, but might be suitable if it means we add the pieces we feel we need and back ourselves for a finish around the 8.

Pick up a mid with our first, Buss a KPD and Baker a mid/utility.

How many games can we win and still get a priority pick ?

If we win 5 this season its 10 wins in 3 years .
