This stuff was a big part of my frustration with where we are at.

When we are re-building why play players of this ilk over younger players. Now I know some younger players may not make the grade - but, there’s only one way to find out.
If you can't run out a WAFL game let alone dominate -its safe to say you wont do it up a grade.
We have played Rawlinson, Johnston, Barnett even Hutchinson wayyy before they are ready.

So what are we thinking?

Retire : Gaff
Delist : Sheed, Darling, Cripps, Witherden, Luke Edwards, Jones, Brockman, Trew
Trade/Delist : Rotham

Trade Pick 2/3 and 23 for Suns 8, 10, 26, Alex Davies and Malcolm Rosas
Pay the Perryman 800k for 3-5 years as a UFA
Upgrade Culley and Maric from Rookie list
Pickup 1 late pick or 2 DFA's
Brockman ain’t getting delisted. Perryman already getting trust offers from better placed teams. Would need to go near $1m for him to consider and guarantee mid time

There's always options to replace players. Just not always good ones.
(I'm a big fan of churning through as many picks as possible to jag a good player)

This year while I think there's good depth up until maybe 40, it still tapers after that like normal. WA very weak as expected.
Agree with the pick churning in our phase of list development as opposed to 1 year deals for list cloggers like Witho however in regards to this year’s draft I have a different view of it.

There’s a few tiers to this draft IMO:
Pick 1-4 which includes 2 NGAs.
Pick 5-10
Pick 11-35
Pick 36-55
Pick 56+

There’s a lot of teams who are struggling for list spots already and may take minimal picks in the draft meaning that later picks slide up quite a bit.

Just as I expect the top 10 from last year (despite overall being a weak draft) will prove to be better than most other top 10s, the 3rd and 4th tiers this year IMO will prove to be exceptional when retrospectively compared to previous draft cohorts.

If there’s a draft to trade into and load up on, then it’s this one. Just about every starting Vic Metro kid will be drafted. The WA talent is thin this year but there are still some great options. Clancy Dennis with pick 59 for example would be an absolute steal. If you look where some of the best KPPs have been taken (eg Gov, Wilkie, Larkey) and our weak KPD stocks we could do a lot worse than loading up with them at the back end of the draft/rookie draft and hoping 1-2 of them come good.

I agree.

It would better stagger the loss of Gov and TB because of we keep both, Edwards should really look elsewhere so we could be left very short of both were to leave is quick time.

TB is one of my favourites but you couldn't blame him for filling is super annuation up playing for the Dogs over in Melbourne.

Successive years of trade speculation at least hints to some temptation in his part.

It's also three best way we have to get more draft capital.
Imo we would have been better off trading yeo. He peaked in trade value and reached his ceiling, it's only downhill from here.

Sheed, brockman and Cripps won't be delisted
What makes you so confident?

Sheed is cooked as a midfielder and has no redeemable qualities in another position. Claps his hands for cheap kicks and doesn't work both ways.

Brockmans off-field issues leave a lot to be desired. Seems to have been a reason Hawthorn were happy to move him off their list. Bought into the team as a defensive small forward and yet hasn't kicked a goal in his 9 matches with us.

Cripps for me is having very little impact this year. Tackle Average and Goal Average has dropped and will continue to do so. Will be 33 start of next season.

Reason we have the list we have is because someone isn't/wasn't willing to make the tough calls. Time for that to change is now.

Brockman ain’t getting delisted. Perryman already getting trust offers from better placed teams. Would need to go near $1m for him to consider and guarantee mid time

What makes you say that Brockman isn't getting delisted? What is it that stands out about his game that makes you think that he is any more than a depth player?

Just curious about a hypothetical if someone knows. If we delisted or moved on say 10 or more players, how do we fill the list? Can we keep selecting players at the end of the draft when other teams have all passed. And can we only fill the list from players who nominate for the draft?
At the moment our current picks are 3,23,59,77,95,113,131,149,167,185,203.
we know we won't get to pick 205 as picks are chewed up with academy picks, fathers and son picks, nga picks plus
you can bring a ufa/rfa if you have a list spot. Also not every club will need to delist as bad as as we do.
This is a week out of date i think but positions for us still are correct.

With a new coach coming in, whoever it is, unless you got the numbers 9, 6, 12, 42 and 37. Everyone should be up for grabs for trade or delisting. And even then I'd probably float Barrass up to the Swans again and see what you can prize out of them.

The list is cooked and needs a North Melbourne style pruning.

The problem you could run into would be you'd have very few players to delist the next year ( can't remember the minimum contracts for late draft picks)

On SM-S921B using BigFooty.com mobile app
That is why some guys get one year contracts so as to make sure you have enough cloggers to delist.
we aren't going to delist Sheed, Darling and Jamieson this year as they are next years cloggers to delist unless somebody retires or becomes medically retired (sheed)

West Coast fans have been left speculating over a bizarre moment between Adam Simpson and Eagles ruckman Bailey Williams during the coach’s farewell press conference.
The Eagles officially announced they would be parting ways with the premiership coach on Tuesday morning, calling a press conference which was attended by the entire club, including the playing group.
However, the interaction between Simpson and Williams as the former headed to the front of the room has caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans.
As Simpson walks past the ruckman, he taps him on the shoulder and makes an indistinguishable comment, prompting a laugh from young star Harley Reid next to Williams while Williams himself returns a stony look.
New AFLW coach Daisy Pearce also quickly turns in her seat to check who Simpson is talking to.
The moment lasted barely a second, but fans still speculated about what it could be about.
One football fan, Brayden on X, even speculated Simpson might have said “you had your say” to the ruckman as he walked past, a reference to Simpson having lost the backing of the players.

“Bailey Williams was on SEN radio this morning sticking up for Simmo. Might have been a thank you,” Craig Gilmour wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Clint Waterhouse added, “What’s up Bailey Williams’ ass?” while Bec had a giggle at Pearce’s reaction.
“Daisy Pearce glaring at Bailey Williams like an angry mum,” they wrote.
Simpson has been at the helm of the Eagles for 11 seasons and has been offered a farewell game against Brisbane at Optus Stadium in front of a home crowd.
However, in another awkward press conference moment, Simpson told CEO Don Pyke he had not yet decided if he’d take up the offer.

Nobody delists four players who have a year to go on their contracts
At the moment Gaff, Jones, Ledwards defintely.
Rotham and/or Witherden.
If i had to cut a contracted player i would pick Sheed. I think Darling and Cripps can still be depth players

you can have that opinion but there is zero chance we delist a young player we traded for who is still under contract
It was my opinion last year too, that he was a list clogger.
Does nothing as a fwd and had the opportunity to earn games based on applying fanatical pressure.

Instead he gets behind the wheel pissed and can't get a game in the worst team on the comp.

And he's not "young". He's spent 4 years in the AFL system now. More than enough time to see if he's any good or not.

Rotham apparently has interest as a FA. Unlikely to trigger rd 3 pick I would’ve thought but not sure what the benchmark is for that.

Sheed no.

Darling, maybe but minimal
Reckon you might get late 30s early 40s pick for darling from a contender who is serious about needing another fwd. then again maybe I'm dreaming

Yeah I don't think we're going to be paying out around 5 guys next year. It would destroy our cap. Maybe 1. Two at a stretch. Darling would probably be the number one candidate but he said he wants to play on so he won't go willingly. Sheed would depend on how bad his foot is.
