Exactly, we cant compare. We dont have the same rules.

If we just try to build through the draft iike normal we probably dont go anywhere. So many teams rebuild through the draft and dont go anywhere.
We would need to be extremely lucky with some late picks or something like we did with Gov, or we need to get creative and try to be as efficient as possible with whats available to us

3, 13 and 23 for 6, 9, 21 and regrettably the midget

F2 for GWS 34 and 49

Rotham, 24, 64 for 28 and F3 (ESS)

6-Travaglia
9-Lindsay
21-Hynes
28-O’Farrell
34-Mraz
49-Johnson
59-Champion match

3 mids, 2 KPD, 1 HBF, 1 FWD
Next year bring in best mids available with R1 and Hawks R1 should it eventuate. Or the Chad. The top end miss this year aren’t as good as last year or as next year projects.

How many top picks do you think we should spend on midfielders? Or how many A-grade mids do you consider necessary to contend?
When do we stop using our first pick on midfielders?
More than one (Harley).

Depends how many picks we go into the draft with.

We have an opportunity to either take another with pick 3. If we split it and take best mid, then best of whatever next I'm open to that.

However, I think no matter what, 2 of our selections on draft night should be what the recruiters consider genuine midfielders.

Are these better than the absolute dregs we've brought in cheaply in recentish years like JJ, Brockman, Langdon etc?
Yes.
Its a lot easier to do a defensive role when you arent that good of a player than it is to be a player who is meant to make things happen like those 3 you listed.

All theyd have to do is enable Reid, Yeo, Hewett and Kelly to do their stuff more freely

Obviously, but do we stop at 3? or 4?
Do we focus on mids at the detriment of the backline and outside ball users?

Can't answer that until we see what happens with player development.

If Chesser and Hewett come good, Long shows he can play stints in the middle, Ginbey pushes back into the guts, other players step up, then after this draft we may be close to set.

If Hewett's feet fall off, Chesser spuds it up in the WAFL, Long ends up a permanent small forward that doesn't kick a lot of goals and Ginbey remains a HBF with no midfield potential, we'll have to stop splitting picks for non-midfielders and get more A Grade support for Harley.

Yes, this is more or less what id like to happen.
A bunch of list holes filled this year, grab Parfitt or Graham too and try them plus Hutch and Hall as mids for a year before we bring in more young mids that would take those spots. Never know we might like what we see, may affect which mids we target in 2025.

Makings of a well balanced list

We would still be left with the issue of no wings or defenders. We have such little depth in that area that we are almost forced to draft them, or at least draft mids that can competently play there. That excludes most of the top 6 or so mids

As ive said many times, why dont we just get some support pieces to allow Harley to do his thing this year, then grab the elite talent mids in 2025. Hewett more than likely comes good. Throwing another 18 year old into the midfield wont improve the squad, and we do need to improve.

Was the Lindsay playing in the curtain raiser today related to Lindsay of this year? Similar lovely left foot.
I checked, seems to have a different junior squad to Xavier. Josh Lindsay is with Geelong Falcons.
Probably not related

Depends if the elite mida are better this year or next year I guess. I wouldn't have a clue.

Give a few years notice, and then wrap up father son I reckon.

They never will, keeps the community local kickabout element they try to promote while taking in a billion tax free dollars every year as a ‘premium entertainment product’, but they’ll never work out how to make teams pay a fair price so just make the move.

1-18 uncompromised reverse order draft. If you want shenanigans, start them from Pick 19.

“Oh but what if Chris Judd’s kid…”

Whatever. Let him win 10 Brownlows at Melbourne. It’s better for the health of the league, who cares how it could benefit us.

The imbalance is bad for everyone, just get it sorted and give everyone five years notice so that any teenagers showing promise and possibly factoring into plans still get where they’re going. If any of the Under 10s are trending well for our club, call it bad luck and move on.

The defenders that were listed in the comment I responded to are not available to us. Whether they once were potentially an option is irrelevant. We arent trading in any defenders that are publicly known to be on the market at this stage.

They won by breaking even in the middle then chipping the ball around all day. Its not like they won by relying on their inside mids to play as inside mids.

Nobody can convince me that we need to draft an inside mid as a higher priority than outside speed and ball use. It just makes more sense to go for an outside hbf/wing type player with our early picks
I wouldn’t say that. Thought their mids were far more dynamic on the day and got well on top

The consensus seems to be the top end is weaker than usual, but the draft is more even overall.
Id take my chances that the mids at the top end next year are better

From what we witnessed in the Futures Game earlier today, thats a pretty good call.

Good news is that we get dibs on a pretty handy wingman, because Charlie Banfield was super impressive in that game.

Isn’t next year’s draft historically compromised? 30 pick first round areas?

What would we give up for Noah Anderson?

I would give up Pick 3 for Anderson with a 2 nd Rd pick back to Wce from GCS ..

Has Curtis Taylor been delisted by North?
If my team just won a flag, I can assure you I would not be on an oppo board asking about the status of a fringe player from a third club.

Go get pissed mate, surely!
