Without getting into the merits of the trade, there are a lot of social media mouth-breathers who are going on about why didn’t the Eagles just walk Baker to the pre-season draft. When was the last time an established good player went to the PSD? It’s been absolute ages. Clubs have obviously made a tacit agreement not to use threats about the PSD to try to rip each other off in trade negotiations. If the Eagles decided to do that with Baker it’s not hard to see an Eagles player with Victoria ties being walked to the draft and going to whichever VIC club finished at or near the bottom of the ladder.

Mate, nobody wants our leftovers. Ever. It hardly works against us to use that line.

We have no top end young mids bar from Harley

Gov has 1-2 years left and after that we’ve got Harry Edwards and Rhett Bazzo as our best young backs

We’ve got the worst rucks in the competition

We’ve got no genuine wingers

No ball users

No good HBF’s

I just can’t believe we’ve had three consecutive years of top 3 three picks and committed two horrific pick splits in two of them.

You don’t trade out those types of picks, you stockpile young top end talent.

Just insane to think about how badly we’ve squandered this trade period.

Instead of pick 3 on FOS or Draper?

The entire future of the club rests on one draft pick?

I really didn't think the club could sink any lower than they are currently but there you are.

I listened to Don Pyke on Mark Duffield's podcast he said that he hopes the Barrass trade will help us re enter the draft for this season.

Even if we don’t follow through with cancelling memberships I think it would be a good idea for a fair portion of us to send emails to the club implying we won’t be renewing.

A mass amount of potential cancellation requests has to get some sort of attention.

Just sent my complaint email, for all the pissing in the wind it probably is.

Didn't threaten to cancel though, that's something I have the next few weeks to decide, mainly for other reasons.

yeah the doom and gloom over this trade is unwarranted.

We are not looking for the "quick fix" in this trade, we are getting a hard working experienced forward (seeing as we lost Darling and Cripps is near the end) and a leader in the middle, all for dropping down 9 spots in the picking order.

Do you people who hate this deal honestly think pick three in this draft is the savior for our club? We got our savior last year, now we need people around him to help him, cos we sure as hell aint getting that from players like Kelly...

The issue isn't trading out pick 3. The issue is that a) we got less back for it than what it is worth, and b) we traded half of what we did get back for a middle aged and non - match winner who doesn't solve any immediate problems (such as ruck or inside mid) for us.

The next 3 years are cooked. We will be bottom 4 no matter what we do at this point in time, including trading for Liam Baker. The best and only thing we should be doing is laying a platform for sustained success 3 - 5 years from by prioritising the draft and getting everything we can from it. Baker will be retiring 3 - 5 years from now.

I can only think that a decision was made over Pyke's head to prioritise getting out of the bottom 4 as soon as possible even if it is a false and temporary dawn and comes at the expense of longer term success.

There'd probably be fewer civilian casualties from a request to the IDF to "precision strike" Burswood on a Sunday arvo, such would be the meltdown amongst the fanbase.

Baker has been top six in Richmond’s best and fairest for 5 years straight, but he somehow isn’t in the best 22 of the club that finished third from the bottom.

God help Pyke if one of the top 3 draftees has a Harry Sheezel like first year and we have Baker plodding along picking up 15 - 20 touches a game but having absolutely no impact on games a bit like Chesser (which is what i am expecting).
