Onward and upward...

Looking at teams with multiple picks before our #12, you'd think its likely that at least 2-4 talls be taken by Richmond, Saints or Dees to balance their draft hands.

This increases our percentages of a genuine gun mid/ outside/ elite HB sliding. All obvious needs for us.

I do feel we will get another pick in this draft but it’s likely to be at a high cost. You always have to pay overs to do it.

If we want Pick 10, we’d need to cough up our own F1 at the very least. I don’t mind it so long as we do it on draft night. That way we’re trading for a player not a pick.

Having said all that, if ever a team was to do us a solid (as much as fairly possible), surely it’s Richmond. Pick 14 for Baker, getting involved to bump up Bolton’s price…

I can see him swinging in a hammock, drinking out of a coconut with a little umbrella in it served by prostitute with a cold sore. In the distance you can hear an approaching chopper that lands directly on the beach, blasting sand everywhere. A suited and sunglassed G-man exits carrying a steel briefcase. He approaches Phil to tell him he's needed for one last mission, and this time it's personal.

Phil responds "I'm too old for this shit!" But still reluctantly boards the chopper.

Guys, I really can't say much right now.

There might be eyes on me. What I CAN say about the Baker trade is this... It's a lot deeper than everyone realises.

I for one voiced a few things and spoke out about it but was silenced. It's political and it runs deep with our CEO and someone else I can't name.... But let's just say his surname could be Gepp. But you didn't hear that from me.

My main issue with the Baker trade is basically.... Wait... Is that someone at the door? Wait, no.. wait what are you doing?

Dark Sharks are ewe OK, it wasn’t the Kiwi mongrel mob, who got their house number wrong cos they couldn’t do math was it?

The Warner shit is worrying because it seems that we’ve already put all our eggs in that basket a year in advance and “made a commitment to Chad”. ie. we’re going to get shafted again next year because we’ve already boxed ourselves into a corner whilst some very good players could be available at the picks we’d have to give up.

If we’re all in on Chad then our F1 simply has to be brought forward to limit the damage. “Can’t trade what we don’t have” seems to be how others go about it so we need to get creative. F1 for a top 10 pick this year, offer Hawks F1 and our 2026 F1 for Warner.

I'm actually pretty happy with it tbh

2 picks in every round next year is a pretty good hand to trade back in, or load up for Warner
Or pickup F/S, promising NGA players, other promising potential 2025 draftees from WA or elsewhere.

Ok result in the end. Trade for Barrass is better than expected, helps to balance out yesterday’s schmozzle.

I’m moving towards the acceptance stage.

So much optimism at the start of the trade period, now i wished it never happened. What a huge failure by the club.
Of course we are going to look better next year with the ins, but our rebuild is now in shambles.
Priority by our recruiters was sponsors and bums on seats not giving the club a chance to climb the ladder in the next 4 years . Next 2 years only chance to grab quality young players before tassie takes over the draft.

Right, before I go for drinks i'll give a few extra details.

We couldn't take Owies as a DFA as Carlton were willing to offer him a 1 year deal and with all the players Richmond were losing they would have taken him in the PSD or he entered the ND and was likely still picked up before we had an opportunity to use a third pick on him. The picks the club had at that part of the draft were considered negligible. Players can't just delist themselves if there is even a 1 year offer on the table on small money.

Someone overcommitted to Baker which put us on the backfoot from the beginning. People need to understand though that if a deal wasn't done he would have re-signed with Richmond. Baker and Bolton do not get along and refused to be at the same club next year. Baker pulled a Judd and said he would only come if the Tigers were adequately compensated and Graham came as well. I'm still very unhappy with the trade however it really was a rock and a hard place situation. Mini was adamant about Graham and Baker and so was Clarke. I was pulled out of that one. So the moment we weren't able to get the tigers band 3 compo for Graham and he was confirmed as coming Richmond held the whip hand.

If Sydney won the grand final pick 3 and our future first was going to Sydney for Warner and what is now pick 22.

Darling was a goodwill trade (for Jack, not north)

The club as it stands currently will be taking minimal picks in this draft and next year will have up to 4 first round picks to use / trade as well as multiple seconds and thirds. Next years draft has imo better top end talents but when you take all the club tied players out nowhere near the depth.

I firmly believe in the depth of this draft and that all of the top picks have major question marks. Also a few who don't want to come to WA. They don't outright come and say it, but you know, particularly when you are talking to them and their families.

I really think pick 3 for 12 & 14 in this draft isn't a bad trade. It's not exceptional, but it's not a bad trade. The issue is that 14 was used instantly for Baker and I think this is what people (including myself) aren't happy with. Freo ****ed us as well on multiple accounts. If the Bolton trade went through first I firmly believe we could have upgraded our pick 26 as part of the deal.

All in all it's not horrendous but it's not great or even good. However if we didn't secure Warner, pick 3 was going to end up being split either way.

The club isn't expecting miracles next year but is expecting enough wins and positivity to be able to start attracting higher level established talent.

Now we hopefully get to death ride the hawks and they finish with 3-4 less wins with teams putting a lot more effort into countering them and a much tougher draw.

I'll answer questions in regards to some of the players chased and even some we had commitments from before bigger deals came over the top and they went elsewhere.

Richmond are going to go hard for pick 2.

Oh and lastly Paul Connors is a complete campaigner.

Apologies my hands were tied and all I ended up landing at the club was Matt Owies, however I hope getting significantly more than what was originally offered and even on the table with 30-40 minutes left to go on the Barrass deal helps make up for it.

Outstanding and thank you.

Another thing to take into account with all these picks next year is that we are well positioned to buy a pick off GC next year who have another couple of academy kids with one looking like he could go in the top 5.

The points values for draft picks changes for next year but going off the new values & Lores 2025 provisional draft ladder we could buy Suns first round pick which would be swallowed up by an academy player anyway with our second & third rounders.

If Zeke Uwland went at say pick 5 & Suns finish with 10 after the 10% discount they would need 1615 points to match. Packaging up 21,30, 39 & 48 would give us 1534 points to use to grab that Suns pick. It’s a little bit short but looking at who currently has what I think we are in a good position for something like this to be in play. Just looking at the new points value it’s really going to make things a lot fairer for everyone.

We also have our own academy & F/S so depending on how they come on we might need these picks to match ourselves.

We will no doubt throw everything at Warner, I dont want to take too many picks into next year for this reason alone.

What's the bet we trade Hawks f1 for Richmond's 10 or 11 pick?
Nope unless we are trading with ourselves not going to happen. Only dumb****s like us devalue low draft picks

I am not sure it’s as bad as many think.
Just you wait next year. The blowing up in our face doesn't occur in the next couple of years it can occur next year.

When we have an aging Tim Kelly and Yeo broken. No TB

Then we look around and see Harley hauling ass we we wonder why is no player helping him. Where's the youth that atleast show light at end of tunnel for him. He's stuck in the backline playing touch butt

Richmond's talls are putrid whereas ours are pretty solid (bar the ruck) and already have years of development (if not already established). If they can't trade experienced talls in, then they're in for North Melbourne levels of pain.

They're also behind us in the midfield. This year's recruits will take 3 seasons to be full time performers (if they're lucky).
You're set for tall forwards, not sure you're set for tall defenders after McGovern. In the midfield you've only got Harley. None of your other recent mid draftees have shown much, either due to injury or really belong in another position.

Didn't know you could type what you're telling people in person.

Do you live inside your computer?

Like all good thespians I really made the audience feel like they were there.

It's part of the craft. No big deal.

The team already looks a lot stronger with 3 additional hardened AFL players, plenty of youth putting pressure on for spots, so excited to see what our new coach can do, bring on 2025, can’t wait!
With heap of picks in 2025 we are definitely on the improve, anyone who thinks otherwise has rocks in their head.
This draft was worse than the Kelly deal. At least we had a team if all available at the time could have had a go at another flag. This lot just extend our rebuild
