For what it is worth, the Herald Sun have us getting nobody in the trade period and losing Rioli. No surprise there.

The usual Vic media bias to attach both clubs to any trade target is not there. They also have Freo landing Sharp and Corbett in salary dumps

I struggle to recall but we normally keep things close to our chest so not surprised the HS have no real insight into our operations.

That same article had St Kilda chasing Bowes.

Would give them 7&9

How would that look in a trade for pick 2?

I'd like 27 to us and we can throw 38 to them, would give us 7,9, 20, 26, 27. Look Pa I'm doing trades.

Some interesting comments on draftees contracts from the GWS list manager in light of Bruhn seeking a trade to Geelong. Talking about an initial 2 year contract not being long enough

It’s particularly relevant to the Giants and Suns who as he says often have to pay overs for players after their initial 2 year contract is up just to retain them. Which then puts pressure on their salary cap.

From Fox Footy website.
Waterman and Johannisen?
I bloody hope not.

WEST COAST EAGLES

Players that could leave

After a torrid season that included the use of Covid top-up players given their injury and illness crisis, the Eagles certainly got a look at their entire roster in 2022. And decisions have already been made on three players, including Jackson Nelson, who were cut from the squad last week. Small forward Junior Rioli has informed the Eagles he wishes to be traded to Port Adelaide. The premiership player flew to Adelaide in August to complete a medical at the club before announcing his decision to depart West Coast. Rioli is a non-free agent so a deal will need to be struck with the Power. Jack Redden remains unsigned for next season, although it is believed he reach his contract trigger for games played to earn himself a new deal.

Players that could arrive

Melbourne free agent Jayden Hunt is reportedly in the Eagles’ sights – and he’d cost nothing for a rival club to pick up. Hunt missed the 2021 premiership win through injury but has still managed 114 games for the Dees in his seven AFL seasons. Jeremy Sharp is reportedly in the mix for a return home to WA as the Gold Coast could be forced into a salary cap dump this off-season. Luke Jackson is looming large after he informed Melbourne he’d be seeking a trade home to WA. While Fremantle are still reportedly in the box seat for the 2021 Rising Star’s signature, West Coast are still in the race. Docker Lloyd Meek is another player West Coast have been urged to assess, given Nic Naitanui’s age – although now that the veteran ruck and Bailey Williams have committed until the end of 2024, that seems unlikely. Jason Johannisen is out of contract at the Bulldogs and could look to return to WA – where he played his junior footy. Could Alec Waterman join his brother Jake at the Eagles too, given he hasn’t signed a new deal at the Bombers? Or perhaps as a bigger forward fish, could they swoop on Port Adelaide’s Mitch Georgiades?
We have already delisted Waterman once, he and Johanissen are definitely in the B grade category we are avoiding.

That sounds like a good outcome though doesnt it, we dont really want players, we want draft picks.

Only saying that cause they get them cheaper for longer, they've messed their salary cap up so bad

"Very disappointed".

Should GWS expect a clip in the media?

I'd put Jake Waterman and Josh Rotham in the 'could leave' category. Jake flirted with the idea of leaving last year I believe.

Would give them 7&9

How would that look in a trade for pick 2?
I would probably do that - we need quality and quantity and for our needs, it makes sense.
7 and 9 gets the 8th and 10th best players. I see we would get 2 of
  • Clark
  • Hollands
  • McKenzie
  • Busslinger
  • Phillipou

Easy answer for me

NBA rookies have a guaranteed 2 years and then the 3rd and 4th years are team options. The teams can opt to guarantee just the 3rd year or the 3rd and 4th years. Something similar in the AFL would be perfect as it solves the flight risk issue whilst simultaneously ensuring that teams aren't locked into longer term contracts for spuds.

They also get paid substantial (generational impact levels) amounts of money.

Matt Rowell, Noah Anderson, Luke Jackson, Caleb Serong, Chad Warner have all just finished their third year this year, should they be stuck on rookie scale money? The mechanism would need to change dramatically, even then they can still request trades.

McKenzie is an academy kid for the Saints and is seen in the 5-10 pick range.
Probably a pity he wasn’t seen as a top 3 then we might be a real chance.
I guess Saints could always be thinking Sheezle or Cadman and do the deal. Would pick 2 for 7&9 be right or we need to add 20 or 26?

Do not want at all. Glad his going to Freo. Seems like a complete knob out partying before he even lands at a new club. Looks like poor displine to me.

I don't like the look of players out clubbing and partying taking photos of themselves drunk. They know they are in the public eye when out and about. Shows a lack of professionalism and discipline. To give up so many high picks and the salary that Freo will have give him too, you would want him to get serious from the get go as soon as he arrives. I see red flags already in him.
Agreed, would be so much better to see those pics with maybe some powder under his nose or the corner of a baggie visible in his pocket AFTER he'd signed with freo.

Its hard to not mess your salary cap up when you have ten vic teams bidding on every draftee after 2 years driving their value up . Then once again when they get to free agency .

Read on another thread.

The 10 years prior to AFL introducing free agency 5 out of 10 flags went interstate.

After free agency 1 out of 10 flags won by interstate clubs.

It would be interesting to see just how many FA's moved back to Victoria and won flags v FA's who moved out of Victoria.

Tom Lynch won two since at Richmond
Prestia
Cameron

Crisp , Adams , Treloar all one ...oops that's right 2018 .

I'd put Jake Waterman and Josh Rotham in the 'could leave' category. Jake flirted with the idea of leaving last year I believe.

And what Bond posted the other day sounds like some players have decisions to make after having exit interviews.

Both Rotham and Waterman looked long in the face in that photo with Nelson. ( a stretch there I know).

Id not be unhappy if both looked elsewhere and helped land a player or pick upgrade.

Feel we are pushing Port for a future 2nd and Frederick. Which would be nice.

Im thinking 26 or 38 would need to be added to land 7 & 9.

Or a player as steak knives.

How did you go with the Hippee Club folks?

Mid-season and all!
