Aside from paying a little bit overs for Kelly, I don't see too many failures in our trading history...

Yeo was good value at the time and became an absolute steal. Redden was an astute piece of trading. Cripps became a bargain. Wellingham wasn't a good trade but we did get one incredible season out of him.

Port got us good for Ebert, but he was playing pretty rubbish football for us. Almost the same price we paid for Yeo but even with Ebert's improvement at Port he was still never close to the footballer Yeo has been for us.

Unless I've missed any others in the last decade, the rest have all been minor trades for very low picks.
VFL really got the better of us in the Scott Selwood trade.

Separately, I think it'd be hilarious if we now went and traded our pick 2 to North for their future first as a big F U.

Pretty sure it’s already been confirmed Houston doesn’t want to come here, he just signed a 5 year extension too, I don’t think that’s going to happen at all

I think Rawlings will still be in good connection with the Eagles crew so I expect them to tag team Port.

Yeah, we've always had a good relationship with the Eagles.

Reckon North just need to stand there ground.
He’s under contract and considered a serious talent.
Port are trying to ply him out of your club they need to pay a price that your club is willing to do a deal with.
So if Port don’t improve the offer your club is in a position to either accept the under offer last minute or hold him and get Adelaide involved next year.
End of the day the onus is on Port to pay up they have said to the player we will take you in.
They can’t force the trade, North have a contracted player.

Yeah, you would think so. I am just thankful we got Viney to be the head of the football department, Rawlings was previously involved in some horrific trades, the Ben Brown firesale and CCJ trade last year. Hopefully Viney keeps Brady away from the magic bean trades.

It is a very strange trade period, Port and Brisbane seem to be involved with deals they can't really manage.

I just like saying it... Ginbey

Sounds like a cocktail. 1oz Gin, 1/2oz Absinthe, 1oz Black Sambuca, dash of bitters, shake over ice, garnish with a pitted green olive and a curly blonde hair.

And there we have, a Rueben Ginbey.

edit ... I forgot the bull semen.

Was specifically mentioned during Dunkley discussion, but I wonder if it was aimed at a larger audience:

What's the odds the media retrospectively celebrate West Coast for sucking it up and getting the Kelly deal done if the Dunkley/JHF deals fall over? I'm going to guess zero and go with "sold the farm!"

Nil. Sold the farm.

Port fail to get JHF done and it’ll be an embarrassment, Port do the deal it’ll be sold the farm.

Have to keep that content machine churning.

Actually not true, whilst a pick swap was on the cards, the idea of sliding down to pick locals was largely untalked about on here until i suggested it and then most called me a liar and shouted BS so if most were already thinking it then why would they say i was wrong and West Coast dont have an issue picking interstate. You cant have it both ways.

How those lemons taste ?

Mate nobody cares. It's an internet forum where posters are anonymous, and you're upset because everybody is taking what you say with a big pinch of salt.
Move on, suck on said lemon, lick up the pinch of salt and then down your medicine.

The Age podcast mentioned a possible trade for Rioli where we got 33 and Martin Frederick. Where did that come from?

That has about as much attraction to me as I would expect would generate from Port supporters, if we offered pick 38 and Jackson Nelson for Sam Hayes.

In fact pick 33 has greater attraction on its own than 33 & Frederick.

We have enough list cloggers of our own to jettison, why bring more in.

We’ve also just brought in Hunt who’s a better version of Frederick

And if there’s a list spot available for Frederick I’d rather we used on Narkle or any number of other options including Winder

Dear Mr Pieman

Please do not pull the trigger too early. I think there are some options of clubs wanting 2.

1. The obvious Port for North for JHF
2. Freo getting 2 for Melbourne for Jackson
3. Geelong wanting 2 to make sure they get Clark
4. GWS wanting Cadman
5. Hawks wanting Sheezel

Here are the rough pillars I am after in a trade for pick 2

Port - 8 plus Future R1 plus 33 or 43
Freo - 13 plus F1 plus Norf F2 giving back a Future R3
Cats - 7 plus Future R1 plus a R3
GWS - 12 18 and Future R1 giving back a Future R3
Hawks - 6 24 and Future R3
Some of these might be done on draft night depending who Norf pick at 1

They have a readymade Selwood replacement in Geelong boy Jhye Clark who should still be on the board at pick 7, I'd be absolutely trying to hold onto the pick too.

I reckon if Scheezel is already gone, then Hawthorn take Clark at 6, good fit for them and the bonus is, it would piss Geelong off big time.

That said of all the VIC Clubs that have an early ish pick, Hawthorn, IMO would be the MOST likely to trade up to pick 2 so that they could take Scheezel.

Who do you believe are the 6 better prospects than Clark?

I have seen most pundits having him as early as 4 and as late as 6.

I believe Geelong will need to pony up more to get up the order
