Yeah I mean it's probably the fairest I've seen but why are we doing it?

If there’s no-one we particularly rate at 2, there’s a few players we’d be keen on at 8, and we’re keen to improve our draft position next year.

We’d have 8, 20 and 26 this year and two first rounders and two (probably high) second rounders next year.

Eagles lose: pick 2, Rioli, future third
Eagles gain: pick 8, future first (Port), future second (North)

Port lose: pick 8, future first, Bergman
Port gain: JHF, Rioli

North lose: JHF, future 2nd
North gain: pick 2, Bergman, future third (WCE)

Who says no?
Reckon that works out to getting 8, 12 and 20 give or take.

Throw in we make a side deal with North that they don't take Jackson in the PSD.

Basically we're doing everyone else a favour and breaking even.

My train of thought here is if we’re trading pick 2 we should walk away from the deal feeling like we’ve just won it big time.

I honestly think on draft night we could just slide back a couple times and net a better offer than what Port are essentially offering

There are multiple teams attempting too much.

Port wants JHF, Jnr & Ratugolea and doesn't have the currency.

Richmond wants Taranto and Hopper, at least they're looking to move players on.

Geelong wants Henry, Bruhn & Bowes/ pick 7. They obviously don't want to part with pick 7 and haven't got the currency.

I think I prefer keep 2 and do the ‘double slide back’ someone else suggested and build our early second round picks.

Particularly if we aren’t particular wedded to the ‘higher touted picks’

The only way i can see us port and north shaking out is if gws and cats get involved too, we end with something like 8 12 and a future 3rd for 2, rioli and a 38

WCE
Give : Pick 2, Rioli
Get : Pick 8, Port F1, North F2

North
Give : JHF, F2
Get : Pick 2, 33, Player

Port
Give : Pick 8,33, F1, Player
Get : JHF, Rioli

Works well enough for us

With picks 1 AND 2, North can broker a sweet deal to split one of those picks

Port and North can fight amongst themselves for which player balances it out as it’s not our concern

Leaves Port with 43 and 53 to give to Geelong for Ratugolea

Well then, I think we will keep pick 2 till draft night.

If North trade pick 1 to GWS we have Wardlaw and Sheezel to pick or listen to offers.

If North take Cadman…ditto

If North take Sheezel we can do a trade with GWS for Cadman

If North take Wardlaw….we can take best offer for Cadman or Sheezel….

Win win win win

Not sure North will take Cadman so GWS should be checking with the Eagles.

I know we all go around circles here with these discussions.

But I can’t help but wonder if we have all written Warlaw off too early.

If he gets to pick 3 and the club has had a good interview with him and he’s tested well at the combine we would be mad to not take the risk on him.

The kid is the best player in the draft when he’s on the park. Better than Ashcroft.

Has a little bit of Judd about this story I know Judd was shoulders and Warlaw Hammies but still.

Imagine trading pick 2 out and he goes on to be the A grader from this draft.

Geelong probably do have the currency for those trades (unfortunately). There first next year would be about right for Bruhn and their first this year would get Henry (and would probably be overs at that). They get kissed on the dick in the Bowes trade and still get to use pick 7 this year.

We should do a Port.

Trade 2 and a future 2nd to GWS for 3 and 12.

Just forget about them and move on.

Fair chance if North get pick 1 and 2 one of them will be Cadman. Who I see as GWS main target.
This was raised earlier in one of the other threads and I agree it’s an option. Although I wasn’t as greedy and said 2 for 3 and 15

We still then have the option of using 3 for 8 and Ports F1

I’d assumed he’d be North’s first pick anyway if they trade away JHF, so he wouldn’t be available.

Hope this isn't left until next Wednesday....🙏

Week and a half for this mumbo jumbo happens every year there should be an AFL moderator to overlook trades so clubs like poor old GC dont get ripped off and other teams advantage like Bullies in the schoolyard .
