They are relying on Jye Amiss. Not the worse bet, if they can get a couple more years from Tabener and co until he's ready.
It's a gamble though. They need him to develop into a top forward and that is likely to take another 3 seasons or so. Once he gets there, who is there to support him?

This is why I think rebuilds should always start with KPP, as they take longer to develop. Freo has rebuilt the midfield but their forward line is bottom 4 in the league.

And to think we could have had Cadman to pair up with Allen

Why would he need 4 seasons? Could do a Darling and chip in with ~40 goals early on in his career.

Jackson/Darcy and another tall will draw two of the big defenders so he will be getting the third KPD. Plus they already seem like they will be getting a lot of their goals from non-KPPs, similar to the Demons and Bulldogs

We still have Darling/Waterman,Williams/Gov/Barrass who can hold down a position, if need be.

They're no JK replacements but they're more than enough to keep the spot warm, presuming we go tall next year.

What's Freo got?

Well the likelihood was that GWS would have traded with North for pick 1 regardless of whether or not we traded pick 2.

So we were never going to be able to Cadman

Wardlaw however….

I’m still comfortable with the swap though given the players that will be available at 8&12

Look at guys like: Daniher, Curnow, McKay, King bros etc. Most of them took a couple of seasons to build their bodies to handle the position. Curnow and Daniher broke out early but then their bodies broke down - arguably because they did too much too soon. Jack Darling was super rare in the he hit the ground running and maintained a good level for years without his body breaking.

Freo has already shown they can't score enough with their current forward line. Their finals serious was pathetic in terms of lack of fire-power. They were lucky to be playing Bulldogs week 1, who are just as bad. Collingwood wiped the floor with them.

Now they've lost their leading goalscorer, so not only do they need to find 30 odd goals to replace him, they then need to find a bunch more to get them up to competitive levels.

Can’t help but think Hawthorn are tanking next year to grab Archie Reid. Kid looks like a generational talent. I see Hawks being a level below us and Norf next season
Hopefully they pick up 'Archie' whilst we get a free shot at Harley.

Even if we don't intend on taking McKenzie at our pick 8 I think we should be on the phone to St Kilda saying at this stage we are highly interested in taking him and if they wish to get their academy player we'll trade back to their pick 9 for a future third.

Continue to amass currency for next year.

Go with the ‘budding talent’ line at Saints may give their F2.

Potential new coach and all that.

Those guys are mostly all ruckman sized - it’s no wonder they took a while to get their bodies right.

The one who isn’t (Curnow) kicked 54 goals across his second and third seasons, with Carlton only winning 7 games during that time. Amiss would be coming into a much less dysfunctional setup.

For all Freo’s failure to score enough, they were pretty close to a top 2 finish. Regardless, my point wasn’t that Fremantle will win the flag, but that Amiss looks good enough to put their faith into.

Its not really hard to find 30 odd goals though. Its only ~1.5 goals a game. McDougall did it early on in his career. Lynch did it in his first proper season at full forward.

And (noting I have no actual evidence to support this theory) that is why I think we got involved in the mega trade.

We wanted Cadman, would have happily selected him at #2 (or even at #1 if we had have 'won' that pick), but once it was clear he was off the board we were not that interested in the other players available at the pick (either they weren't rated that much higher than players around 10-15 in the draft, or go-home issues, or both).

Hence the desire to have 2 cracks in the 5-15 range rather than just take the 1 player - i.e. the 1 player we wanted was gone.

Different vibe. All games still include the three grades playing on the same day. Old school promotion within the club. Then very modern day $$$ to poach top players out/in of contracts. (during the season)
Can't stand the "during the season poaching" stuff, obviously there's talks go on in the AFL but announcing players leaving while part way through the season's sh!te imo.
