WC Cleaning the decks , 2023 going to be a raw experience .

6 main list changes isn't too extreme, with 3 of those retirements and one requested trade.

Out of the six players we've lost, only JK, Redden and Rioli were best 22. Sheppard was already gone and Nelson and Langdon weren't important cogs.

When you consider the amount of injured players coming back (fingers crossed), we will be stronger in 2023 than 2022 (which is an extremely low bar).

I personally think we're going to Weekend at Bernies it next year and scrape into the 8 before having another year close to 2022 in 2024.

Only way I see us continuing our "never spend more than 3 years out of the finals" run.

Weekend at Bernies, hahaha.

I agree with the point albeit a bit more conservatively. We'll be nudging finals this year before ultimately missing (could see a late season collapse), then we will face a big drop off in 2024. That being said I don't think we'll be as bad as 2022 again at any point of the rebuild - it's almost not possible.

Darcy jones a sure thing now?

Maybe ? We may take him anyway with 20 or 26

I think this extra list spot is for Tyrell Dewar who is one of our NGA players .

By the time he is bid on probably into the 3rd round he will cost 127 pts or what ever our pick 70 comes down to after all the father sons bidding .

He had a very good end to the season kicking 5 goals (total) in the two colts finals at the end of the season and had a very good game vs SA in the u18s carnival.

From Rookie Me Central

AFL U18s Player Focus: Tyrell Dewar (Western Australia)

WEST Australian excitement machine Tyrell Dewar was one of the standout Sandgropers during his side’s breakthrough win at the 2022 AFL Under 18 Championships. While the Sandgropers did not have the most memorable carnival – losing to the Allies after defeats to both Victorian sides – they did finish on a high note by knocking off South Australia at Joondalup last Sunday. That performance was the subject of our Player Focus this week.

Dewar is a naturally gifted footballer who will play off half-forward and though he is more than capable of kicking outstanding goals – emphasised by his two against the Croweaters, he is the player you want with ball-in-hand going inside 50. Not the completely finished product, Dewar has serious upside for the future, and is a player who is incredibly smart, and has plenty of tricks up his sleeve. Clean at ground level and a knack for still getting a rapid fire handball away while under pressure, Dewar is one to keep in mind for this year’s AFL Draft.

More of a mid-to-late draft prospect, Dewar has some eye-catching traits. The 185cm talent is only lightly built, but is not afraid to win his own touches, and spreads well around the ground. He can lower his eyes going inside 50 and look to pinpoint passes, and has outstanding acceleration that creates separation on the lead, or once the ball hits the deck. Reliable overhead, Dewar still needs to improve his defensive pressure, strength and consistency, but what he offers on an offensive front is very clear.

Depends on who we select in 2023. If we have the guts to give games to the less than 30 gamers we won’t rebound as much this year but will be better in 2024 and beyond. If we have the guts.

I’m still trying to get my head around the senior list spots

Six outs: Sheppard, Kennedy, Redden, Rioli, Nelson, Langdon
Two ins: Hunt, Jones promotion

That only leaves us with our four early draft picks. If we want to leave space late in the draft to match a bid on Dewar, take a sliding Broadbent, use pick 2 in the PSD, or add a DFA, we’d have to delist Winder as well. Is that right?

Agree totally. The guys coming back with a full preseason and under intense media pressure will definitely improve us.The big question Is can Simmo manage the “oldies”? He has shown a dislike of resting/dropping name players. Can our S@C people keep them on the park?

Winder has to come out as well either delisted or taken to the rookie list

So far, we have 6 changes off the main list and 1 in doubt. Witherden is assumed to be an extra year on his contract curtsey of Rhino and Winder is the in the air.

Based on Winder either being delisted or moved to the rookie list, we would have a chance to pick up 5 players in the ND.

Assuming West is also continuing but Trew is up in the air (I am assuming he is not offered a spot but likely to be a supplemental or rookie pick, we have a chance two rookies.

I am also assuming Dewar is picked up as a Cat B rookie

Yes - In my spreadsheets I eliminated Sheppard before the season started.

With Winder on the list, we only have 4 spots that are open to use at the draft.

Move Winder to the rookie list or just remove, we can take a 5th pick.

Those were different teams though. The core of 06-11 was very different to the core of 2022.

You could make a similar list for us from 92-06, but I wouldn't call it a dynasty.
And that is what a dynasty is. It changes and evolves over time. The names change but the overriding dominance remains.
The Ming Dynasty lasted from 1368–1644, nearly 300 years.
Do you think the 'team' that was there at the end was not very different to that that was there at the beginning?

Can’t you run with a senior list profile of anywhere between 36 + 4 & 40 + 2.
If so and we went with 39 + 3 that would give us the extra main list spot.

I had The Ming Dynasty in my top 5 dynasties, so if we can replicate them that would be a great result.

Even if shep wasn’t on the list the player we replaced him with would then count as a delisting. All the extra signed up players got delisted so one of those 4 counts as a list spot where as the other 3 players where all extra list additions past the 42.

*Actually take that back Culley is still on the list so he cancels out that list spot.

Maximum you can have on the main list is 38. Minimum is 36
